I've been posting a lot about it on Instagram and I'm clearly not the only one discussing long hours and long days. Join in with raising awareness and sharing your experiences by tagging me and using the hashtags #Challengethebalance and #UnlockTeachTalk.

Thank you so much for these videos and for your honesty! Your positivity and resilience is inspiring. It's great to see someone so clearly passionate about the profession but also not afraid to address the difficulties teachers face.
I'm starting an ECT position in year 1 in September so am very appreciative of your insights! 😊 x

Love this idea, i'm near the end of the PGCE student year and with more and more teaching I have found my teaching to-do list growing rather than getting smaller! Work-life balance is key and it really is what suits you, I cant really concentrate at home so I always get to school early and leave late to put the hours in.

I don't think the list ever gets smaller because then you can go onto the "non compulsory" list 😅 how's it all going for you Kyle? Xx

It is no doubt a career that has ups and downs but what you don't see are the wonderful moments which just "recharge your batteries" and make it all worthwhile ❤️

@@PetitePrimary I completely agree from what I’ve seen. I’ve got some interviews for TA work coming up and I hope that helps reignite my love for it, I think the pandemic really ruined my mental health and upped anxiety surrounding teaching like it probably did for many of us, so I’m taking proactive steps to get back into it!

@@svoltage4596 I'm sorry to hear that that was your situation, but it's great that you're still keeping an open mind to the idea. Step by step is the best thing you can do to get back into the flow of things - once you've overcome those, you're on your way! Good luck xx

Hi dear, I wanna become a secondary teacher in UK and I'm from India. I'm planning to study PGCE. is PGCE so hard to complete? Is there high opportunities to become a teacher after PGCE? As I'm from India, I've heard that teachers from other countries need a dependent visa to become a teacher in UK. Is it true?

    • @PetitePrimary
      @PetitePrimary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Ann,
Unfortunately I don't know the situation around visas and in terms of the job market, it depends on a lot of things: number of vacancies available, area you live in, schools in that area, whether there are SCITT or unis near you, competition of the vacancy, how specific your subject is etc. It's a difficult question to answer x

Hi Ann, if you don't mind my chipping in - I've done my PGCE in the UK (I'm from india too) and got a job quite easily. If you want to, you can DM me for more details, or any questions you have. More than happy to help a fellow teacher!

I think you should be very careful in thinking about what & how you convey things if in case your school or parents from your school view your videos. As an NQT you do need to be 'accepting' of the hours that are generally needed to be put in and at this stage I feel you shouldn't be so overtly vocal in expressing a desire for balance. Also some of your comments such as "boring admin work", wondering if the Maths lead observer will be "harsh", learning about target tracker being "tedious" and "winging" lessons could be challenged by your school in terms of your professional attitude. You are clearly a reflective practitioner who is committed and my comments are meant with good intention.

      Hello John,
My videos are purely to be real and support teachers. I personally find nothing more relatable than someone who can be honest and isn't scared to share their experiences.
I am accepting of the workload and do complete the work that is necessary, however, I think it's important to understand the commitment and workload that goes with teaching. For those that are not in education, they may also not realise the incredible effort all teachers put into their work and their pupils.
Regarding my adjectives, I apologise if they may have offended you. My use of the word boring was more regarding "content worthy," than devaluing it's importance.
I realise I did not mention this in the video, but for what it's worth, the observation was very useful, fair and I appreciated the opportunity to voice my opinion of how the lesson went and how I'm finding planning and so forth. Constructive criticism was given and taken on board and I have already made adaptations to my lesson since.
I love my job and everything that comes with it, but like with everything in life, I don't think what is spoken about should be censored to only show a positive side as that is simply not realistic.
Many thanks for your comment and concern, it is appreciated John.

@@PetitePrimary As said I acknowledge that you come across as reflective and committed - I have no doubt that you are dedicated and put in the hours so to be prepared. Your adjectives do not offend me but as said I think you should really consider how your school could perceive the narrative that you portray on aspects of the job that you identify and how they could potentially challenge you about them in regards to them being a negative opinion about you being a teacher at their school on a global platform. Regardless of your censorship and need for balance in a point of view the school would not accept this because your opinions towards the experience that you are having at that school reflects upon them and any slight negative expression from you could potentially make your SLT feel that you are bringing the school into dispute. I am sure you can understand that if this were to happen this could significantly effect your employment, development and the treatment/experience that you receive.

This video does not reflect my school in anyway and if it gives the impression of doing so I will sincerely reconsider how I portray this in future and apologise. The school has been very kind and supportive and I thank them for this term so far.
My only goal was to give a fair representation as to the work load of an NQT and to not glamourise overworking as this is what leads to burnout and a significant amount of teachers leaving in the first 5 years of their career.
I thoroughly thank you for your feedback though and take it on board.
