    It might be regional, but I don’t think Brooks is concerned about needing to compete on price with any of those similar shoes you held up. Where I live, if you go to a 5k/10k and look around you’ll see what feels like 50% of the people are wearing Brooks. On women it seems closer to 75% Brooks. If you work in a warehouse setting, it looks like Brooks is winning there too. Nike, Adidas and New Balance might be winning in the world of “Atheleisure”, but at least where I live, Brooks is winning anywhere non elite runners gather.
    For people in the know watching TH-cam videos, at $150 they are high compared to those other shoes. In a big box sports store like Dick’s Sporting Goods, they are going to be sitting next to $180 Peg Turbos. Those other shoes in your video won’t even be in the store. So to the everyday person they won’t seem $20-25 too high, they will appear $30 cheaper.

    Interesting review. Thanks. It would be good to have a durability update at around the 200 miles mark. These shoes are on the expensive side and it would be encouraging if they remain in decent condition at 200 miles.

    I have a strained relationship with Brooks, much like you do. Every shoe that they made that I loved they managed to screw up in the next iteration or two. My son loves/trains in the Launch and my wife enjoys her Ghost, but after getting into running with the Ghost and transitioning to the original Pure Grit years ago, and seeing them ruined I've moved on (thanks Topo and Altra). I don't see myself going back and the price is disappointing. Hopefully they figure out the features, benefits, and pricing sooner or later.

    Let's all take a second and consider how remarkable it is that Ethan is totally honest with his reviews. Most internet reviews are now bought and paid for cash grabs and yet despite that, Ethan's held firm with his convictions and hasn't sold out. Good work Ginger Runner. Good work.

    I love the Brooks pureflow, and was excited to see this shoe, but the price point, ouch. doesn't mean I won't try it tho only because Brooks is one of the few brands that really fits my narrow foot.

    Always viewed Brooks as making comfortable recovery shoes/shoes to spend all day in, but considered them too heavy for real running efforts. Whether that’s fair or not, don’t know. But this is interesting, thanks for the review.

    My brooks experiences have been at each end of the spectrum. Pureflow 6 was awesome for me. Got it for half price in a sale and used it well for 5k pbs through to marathon at ironman. Caldera 3 was a huge let down personally and I’ve not got back...!

    As a runner who started late but “ran happy” in Brooks for years (Pure line, then Launch 6) I can say that one model that has gotten better lately rather than worse is the Ravel 3. It’s like a better Launch, which I discovered when Launch 7 disappointed me. It’s not my favored shoe in my serious running rotation but it’s very comfortable and a very light, nicely cushioned shoe for various workouts and crossing over into causal wear. Good looking too. I BQd on my first marathon last summer in Launch 6 but am now loving and leaning toward Adidas Boston 8 for this April 20. However I’m very intrigued by this Hyperion Tempo and wondering if I can my hands on one in time for Boston consideration. What I loved about Brooks in the past was great fit and no hot spots ever, right out of the box. Martha-- new subscriber 👌🏼

    Considering trying the shoe but worry about the toe box. As a long time Ravenna fan I've struggled with the drastic changes they made to a good thing. Also I share concerns regarding the wear and tear. Hoping they hit it out of the park with this one and don't make major changes. Thanks for a great review Ethan 👍

    I've used the Brooks Ghost throughout my high school and college running career and I love them. I have tried the Nike Vaporfly Next% 2 but the foam tore after a run so I am looking for something more durable that can get me through training while using the Vaporfly for racing. (Yes I know the Vaporfly's are labeled as "racing shoes" I just wanted to see how they were as trainers and how many miles I could get)

    Good review. I think I might TRY them. I wore out a pair of Ghost 13's and the funny thing about the outsole/midsoles was that on 95+ degree days, it felt like I was sticking to the pavement. the shoes got so mushy. Currently running in the New Balance Tempo's that you recommended as a BUY and for $60 shoes, I got all my moneys worth and then some!

    Q: Hi Ethan, you approach a very interesting subject when you talk about the controversy about competitive running. With new shoes with a carbon plate and the marketing behind those products (like the Vaporfly in the feet of Eliud Kipchoge), how can shoes than were considered to be a great distance shoe (like the Saucony Kinvara) survive? Thank you and continue your very unbiased and helpful reviews!

    Full disclosure.. I am now a Brooks RunHappy team member.. but there lies the story. I wanted to join the team (without ever having owned a pair of their shoes!).. because of their runhappy ethos. But I was nervous.. would I like them?. Then I saw the spy shots of this, the Elite and the new trail shoe.. and I got excited. For me I think this is going to replace my Kinvaras/Turbo2s for speed training and my long runs. I haven't tried them yet but am really excited.. oh god, I hope they give me a pair

    Hi! Any advice for runners like myself that haven't really run in many years, but am trying to get back into it? I checked out the new Nike Pegas 37, but as amazingly cushiony as they are, the front/top sits too high on my feet and the heel is a tad low, so those didn't work. I use to wear Brooks Adrenaline 18, but they were a bit too heavy and stiff for me. These new Brooks look great, but are they decent for just an average runner for daily runs maybe 3-5 miles? I need help, there's just too many shoes out there, lol. Thanks! Great channel 😁

    This might be a silly question but when shoes aren't expected to last for 400+ miles why do they bother putting that much rubber on the outsole?

    • @jacobkosmicki3392
      @jacobkosmicki3392 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      William Lunn-Pigula ginger runner seems to complain about durability with every shoe. He said the peg turbos would last ~150 miles, mine have twice that on them and are still in fine shape. Anything he says about durability can be almost totally disregarded.

    • @thesii213
      @thesii213 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jacobkosmicki3392 This is likely estimated durability based on the first 100 miles or so he puts on the shoe. He also might be a drastically different weight than you as I think he's a larger dude at 6ft and 200lbs or so.

    Sounds like the Hoka Rincon is the better bang for your buck compared to these.

      Could be, but Rincons don't last long either - mine are dead after less than 200 miles. The cushioning has totally gone. Having said that I really like them so I'd buy another pair but only use them for tempo runs and races (10k, half marathon) rather than long training runs.

    Man, I was a brooks Glycerin guy for a long time, but they kept getting heavier, clunkier, and overall suckier, so I stepped away. Maybe I’ll give these a try. So hesitant after how bad my experience was at the end 😂

    After running in carbon plated shoes for a while I wouldnt spend that money on a shoe that banding so easily and not even light. Too much competition in this segment as you mentioned.
