I was surprised to hear that a number of these shots (allegedly) made use of green screen. It's a testament to how a master of their craft can fully transport you into their world.
That is what makes it so immersive.

i saw this at a theater in seattle back in september, and i wanna guess all the long pauses throughout the movie are because of neil knowing that people will be nonstop laughing at every piece of dialogue, like it’s a sitcom. i would know because that’s what my theater experience was like for this. this film definitely felt self aware compared to his films before this

i was lucky enough to catch a screening (a breening, if you will) of this at alamo drafthouse back in november, and while it was a magical evening, I hope that Breen goes back to physical set. It was sorely missing some classic elements like copius amounts objects being flailed around that gave his previous works of art the sauce.

First time hearing about this fella, as someone with a total work history of not so well done video projects, makes me smile to be honest. What I'd give not to give a f like Niel- absolutely please cover his future work, he's a total gem.
Neil might actually be crazy. No matter how bad you are, you can NEVER out-bad genuine, sincere instability.

@@KingRidley At this point, the question of "just how actually crazy is he?" feels like one of the big draws of Breen's work. Which makes me a little uncomfortable. Is he the Wesley Willis of filmmaking? Are we making fun of someone who needs help? Or should we just appreciate his art in an authorless context and leave personal questions out of it?
Neil Breen is a genius. He's become a legend without compromising his ideals.
I love Breen. I own a few of of his burned DVDs that all came in broken jewel cases. I have seen Pass Thru, Twisted Pair, and Cade all in theaters. I had to drive to six hours to see first two and only two hours away to see Cade. Great video by the way!

This "movie" reminds me a lot of some FMV games from the 90s. During the parts where you showed the characters just stand doing nothing I half expected a mouse cursor and an item inventory to show up.

Not gonna lie, i didnt look too closely or read the title at first other than seeing it was a Nerrel video, and I thought it would be a review of the Dark Forces remaster as i felt that might would be up your alley. But now im along for the ride!

The use of green screens and the ensuing aesthetic on this is actually so fucking bizarre and singular it wraps around into being genuinely compelling. for better or for worse ive *never* seen anything that even remotely *looks* like cade the tortured crossing outside of fmv video games from the fucking 90s. imagine if someone actually used these cinematic techniques purposefully and with a little more finess for an enter the void type movie or surrealist comedy. im dead serious about this, neil has fallen assbackwards into accidentally revealing a potentially incredibly exciting and new psychedelic aesthetic. he is an inovator.

It's amazing how much Breen's movies have progressively devolved in their cinematography considering where they were when he started. Quite an achievement.
I find it hard to believe he’s completely unaware but I also find it hard to believe he’s fully self aware. He really is something special, I hope he keeps doing his thing. It’s easy to laugh, but how many people can actually say they’ve put this amount of work into their own projects. Whether it turns out good or not.
To all would be film makers, Breen was able to fund a new movie during the height of bidinflation. Anything is possible.

If you showed me this out of context I'd have assumed this was some kind of Phantasmagoria-esque adventure game.
No joke here. Absolute credit to Breen for sticking with it. Despite the jank and the push back from folks about that. There is something inspirational about just going ahead despite those issues. With all the junk that gets pushed out with multimillion dollar budgets, at least there is someone just ding what they do.
