You can't not get the feels watching them perform. Now you see why this video has hundreds of millions of views! Their original video of Imagine takes my breath away. When you learn Kirstin, Scott and Mitch met in school and have performed together half of their lives, you begin to understand why they are so seamless.

There is something so special about their ability, to tell the songs story, allowing us to listen with a new perspective, and hear & feel emotions, we may not have heard from the original artist 💖💖💖 Not only their voices, but their delivery is also their gift! *IMO, no other group, can build up a song, like Pentatonix* They are masters at pulling on our emotions!!! 💗💗💗💗💗💗 *They are individually so talented, however, when put together, it is truly magical* 💗💗

I found your reaction endearing. It was almost as if.you were fighting back the tears. Music that bring tears to your eyes or makes goose bumps or.makes your heart skip a beat means you are actually receiving the message that the performer(s) are trying to convey and.that.you are human with a heart. Anyone who doesn't get emotional hearing this rendition, in my opinion, just doesn't get it. I feel this song with every fiber of my being EVERY TIME I hear it. So mad props to you for allowing yourself to feel.

Lol You're getting ready to go on a journey thru one amazing rabbit hole. Pentatonix (PTX) followers are called Pentaholics. You should start a playlist for PTX. When the Pentaholics know you're doing PTX, they're going to be bombarding your comments box. An a Capella group. Three main members met at an early age, in Texas. Those are the tall one (Scott Hoying), the female (Kirstin aka Kirsti like thiirsty) and Mitch Grassi (shorter guy). Check out where they started, the Sing Off television show (met Kevin (beat boxer/cellist) and Avi Kaplin (bass) who left the group and was replaced by Matt Sallee, joined the day before the Sing Off. All songs are amazing. Covers they do are called "upgrades". "Mitch Slapped" is when Mitch you think, couldn't surprise you (Aha Singapore for me). Shallow, Perfect, the Royals, Creep, Be My Eyes, Bohemian Rhapsody, Drummer Boy, Daft Punk, The Prayer, Mary Did You Know and Sing are all great. I like quirky fun ones, too. Cheerleader, Thrift Shop and Cant Hold Us. The beat boxer, Kevin Osuala can beatbox and play cello at same time. Check out Kevin's Fifth. Scott Hoying has a song out called Mars. They're originals are from their album called Lucky Ones. There's a collaboration they did with Todrick Hall called Wizard of Ahhs. If you want to see how the magic comes together watch the Making of Evergreen. Enjoy your journey 🎵🎶

Nice reaction! Sorry you had to crop the video size, but hopefully that worked to keep the copyright bots from blocking you. I'm happy you now see why so many of us are so impressed with this group. They are truly all talented and blend together so well.
    The members:
First singer: Scott Hoying, baritone. Scott has a wonderful, strong , gritty vocal tone and is the master of riffs and runs. He also takes over the bassline when the bass is singing verse or lead. He has, like all the group, a 4 octave range.
Second singer: Avi Kaplan, basso profundo. Avi is an opera trained bass with a very deep, warm voice. His low lotes have been known to break speakers, so the group uses their own for concerts. Avi left the group in 2017 and now follows a solo career. His replacement, Matt Sallee has been a great addition to the group, fitting in seamlessly and bringing his special stage presence to the group.
Third singer: Kirstin ( Kirstie) Maldonado, mezzo soprano. Kirstie has a lovely, bright voice and had great belting abilities. She's a chameleon...she changes her appearance so often that people constantly think the group has a new member, but it's just Kirstie with a new hair colour and make-up.
Fourth singer: Mitch Grassi, countertenor. Mitch is one or the rare true countertenors in the world. That part that you heard in the video is NOT his falsetto...it's his head voice/higher register. His falsetto goes up into the stratosphere! Mitch's diction when singing and vocal control is phenomenal. Like Kirstie, he's a chameleon, constantly changing his looks, hair colours and styles...and weight. He lost quite a bit of weight during the first few years, but gained some of it back now.
Fifth member: Kevin Olusola: beatboxer, cellist , tenor. Kevin is the genius of the group. He was finalizing his Pre-med when Scott called him up and invited him to come be a part of the group . They needed a fifth member in order to enter a competition, a television show called The Sing-Off, for acapella groups. They'd seen Kevin's video of himself playing the cello WHILE beatboxing. He graduated and then flew out to join the group...and never left. Oh...they won the competition, too! Kevin also sings and usually does backing vocals when not beatboxing. He also helps songwrite with one or two others in the group, has perfect pitch and plays sax and piano.
There's a huge store of covers and originals they've done, so make a choice or choose from a recommendation:
    Some suggestions:
Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Daft Punk medley, Run To You ( original), Be My Eyes ( original), Coffee In Bed (original), Shallow, Say Something.

My favorites for your list are “The Prayer”, “Amazing Grace” and “Imagine”. I saw someone mention checking out their run to victory on Season 3 of the Sing Off; Scott, Mitch and Kirstie were just 19 (Babytonix). Oh and for a good behind the scenes of their arranging process, watch The Making of Evergreen.

As Stephanie suggested below, you should react to the solo work of Avi Kaplan. Avi, the bearded bass in"Hallelujah", left PTX in 2017, and started releasing his own music (90% original) in 2019. While the style generally attached to him is Americana/Folk, he varies the genres quite a bit. I recommend you react to his 2022 original, "When I'm a Fool", the version recorded live at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles. Both the Sunset session and Avi's 11-song album were produced by Shooter Jennings (who plays the black Gibson SG in this). He's backed by some of the best studio musicians in LA, and they get into jammin' toward the end.

Welcome to the rabbit hole. So much good music coming your way. Country music is all about the storytelling. PTX does the same, just with different genres. I definitely recommend The Prayer. Hopefully it’s their next Grammy.

  • @r0kus

The original version by Leonard Cohen, the man who wrote it, is different from all the other versions I have heard. He was a poet, and his performance is sort of halfway between reciting and singing. I prefer Pentatonix' cover, but I respect Leonard's original.

The song was composed by singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen in 1984. You should listen to the original singer, it is different. 2nd to cover it was an avant-garde singer Jeff Buckly who recorded it around 1994. It's also different. Many others have covered this piece, but, none like PTX, in 2016. Thanks for the reaction.

Cohn was a Canadian, who wrote over 80 verses to the song. He sat naked in a hotel room, trying to decide what verses to include. If you follow his music , you’ll notice that when he performed it, he would switch verses. I think it was dependent on his mood at the time.
RIP Lenard. Your music and inspiration lives on!

Pentatonix is a stunning group. They have such a huge catalog of songs that you should have no problem finding more of their songs to react to. “The Prayer”, if you haven’t already reacted to it, is a gorgeous piece and their cover of “Imagine” by John Lennon is another you might appreciate.
I noticed that you have a reaction video of “I Wanna Go Home”. That’s a song that four of my seven brothers used to sing a’cappella in the 1970’s so I’m going to have to give it a watch and listen. Okay, I listened but it wasn’t the same song I was thinking of. The only similarity is the title of the song. I’m seriously going to have to go through your videos and watch more of them.
You seem like such a good guy. Like others that have commented I could see in your face how moved you were by the song. Relax, you’ve got this. You kind of remind me of my nephew Aaron. He’s a terrific guy too but holds his emotions and excitement back. It was nice to see those things in you as we listened to the song together. Nice job managing your pauses.
I guess I’m going to have to subscribe to your channel now. 😉👍🏻
