Hi mate I’m having some issues with micro scratches after curing would you know the cause of this iv followed the correct process to the best of my knowledge
I mess up to but unfortunately I do t have a chemical stripper so it’s pretty much to late if I don’t catch it before cure but I’m a hobbyist for now so if im charging anything I do t charge above my means or skill level
10% at the top for reworking but stuff happens You have to remember you taking plastic in a talcum powder form and trying to get it stacked on metal at around 2.5 to 3 mill then melting it. It is tricky
Thank you! I just found your video and your correct when you said everyone makes powder coating sound easy. I build a few things in my shop and wanted to try powder coating viruses spray painting. 90% of everything I paint is black. Is Black a hard color to apply for a true beginner?
Hi, thanks for sharing this, I'm new to powder coating and will only be doing small parts but in the illusion instructions it says "Flash time prior to Top Coat 2 minutes after powder flows to a gloss with oven temperature at 400°F ", does this mean that I remove from the oven before full cure and lay the clear and then fully cure, thanks in advance
Actually you dont necessarily want to wait for 400 .after it flows and no longer looks beady and has smoothed out count 2 to minutes. Your oven might take alot longer to get to 400 so if you wait too long its flowed maybe even past gelled and heading for cure stage
I had the same problem today with prismatic Plue powder. I know its not the powder but my fault somehow. I first used a super chrome and that came out perfect, then i used the Plue powder and thats when it came out perfect on one part and then the other two pieces came out not perfect but ok i guess. The two parts look more purple and you can kinda/barely see the chrome underneath the plue which makes it look more purple then blue. Thw third piece, like i said that looks perfect, looks dark purple then blue, depending on lighting. I think some of the powder might have came off when i transferred it to the oven,so thats what i think happened.
There are tons of primers, some have out gassing agents some are fillers ect, it's always best to talk to paint companies when you have a project and are unsure which primer to use
I just made my first learning to powder coat video during the winter since I haven't been doing much riding. I was just wondering from a professional experience what are somethings you have seen from powder coating directly over chrome without sandblasting or etching the chrome. I did a small part just to try and seems like the matte black powder covered the part pretty well and I thought maybe the color would scratch off very easy but aside from taking something really sharp and scraping it... it seemed okay. I seen a video of a guy that said he powder coating a bunch of parts on his motorcycle over the chrome with a transparent bronze and the parts have been on his bike for 2 years and seem ok so I Just curious what your professional experience on this is? Thanks for any help or info and I love all the educational videos! Keep it up!
Missed this comment, sorry. I have never coated just over chrome, we usually blast it and rough it up. I know a lot of the people doing the truck wheels just clean the wheels and coat over the chrome with the tinted top coats, it works but it wont be a life long hold and rocks will chip it, but it looks cool so they do it. Just as long as you know the risks and if your getting paid the customer knows too.
@@RightNowPowderCoating I don't have customers but yes I agree I wouldn't do it for a customer but just for my private use on my motorcycle... certain parts have no chance of getting rock chips so hopefully ok... Thanks for feedback!
Hi! What is your advice on how to achieve illusion purple that has the purple/pink effect to it vs. insanely dark purple? My wheels are currently with our powder coating company, and they have really been trying to talk me out of the illusion colors because I think they don't know much about them. If I could give them specifics on the silver base, the illusion purple, and the gloss, I think I could get what I am looking for. Any advice?
To specify, the company is encouraging me to do anodized purple over super chrome with a gloss finish, but the first try came out a weird reddish color which is not at all what I am looking for. I would totally love your input!
@@amandaginn9313 I would do samples trying to apply light coats of illusion with light clear, then try moderate coverage of illusion with light clear, heavy illusion with light clear, then try moderate clear and heavy clear in all three ways again. The clear changes the color as does the amount of base illusion you put down. Only way is to try different methods to see what you like best.

Just waited a long time and had a bunch of anxiety about having a high dollar item (supercharger) powder coated with Prismatic powder Illusion Cinnamon. Ordered the swatches, made my choice, the part finally got painted and came out TOTALLY the wrong color. Now I'm screwed with a HORRIBLE looking color. Had I known it takes wizardry and odds resembling the Powerball lottery to get the correct color................so frustrated, defeated, angry, displeased, disappointed.

I’m spraying illusion cherry and it’s like it’s to dark. I don’t understand why, like it’s still kinda pink yet

Yes as long as your set up is good, if not it will be a pain.

It's all about an even consistent layer!
Did you come up with any secrets to shooting Illusions? Shoot it hot? Diff temps? I have had problems with light and dark spots also.
I would not shoot hot as you will build up more, the key is to be very consistent with the amount applied as for the base and the clear.

Always do 2 coats of the illusion or you will have light spots
