    "Why do I call it a petal?" I do the same thing, because in my imagination, a butterfly's wings are somewhere between the floral world and the insect world. They are my evolutionary "link" between two utterly disconnected worlds. :-)

    Lovely. Your stuff is always great. And you are always so inspiring. You were the first watercolour artist I started to follow years ago and I always come back to your channel; it's educational, inspiring, informative, creative, and FUN! My sister even recognizes your voice when I'm watching one of your tutorials!! Always look forward to your contributions here and on Instagram. God bless you, Lindsay.

    Lindsay, thanks for the clear and concise presentation. I am at present using water colour to paint yachts and marine themes. Needed something different to both water colour and gouache, as will launch a series of yacht presentations with architectural detail and inktense looks ideal.
    Thank you Graham

    We raised 3 Monarch butterflies one Summer...or Fall...can't remember when they came out of the cocoons...but it was amazing! Held them in our hands, and then watched them fly away! It really was wonderful. I have a picture of one sitting on my finger. 🤗
    Thank you for sharing Lindsay! It is so appreciated! 💜🧡💚

    After watching this video I played around with the pencils and the blocks! The white in the block/pencil doesn't want to play! Didn't get the white as you did in the video. with the pan set. Thank you for getting me to experiment! What did I expect from this medium after watching the pan set! I expected to put colour down with the block (let it dry) and thought the white pencil would have been a good high light with regards to using it .Must admit my inspiration as a newbie took a nose dive! To me the white pencil is a blender not a high lighter! I do like this product and will continue to play! Thank you for giving me the inspiration to play with my stash! Appreciated!

    I think Inktense pencils are india ink, so should work the same way, which is awesome. Same with the watercolors, I suspect. It's a mystery how these are rehydratable and the Doc Martin ones aren't. But it is what it is. I am typically better at pondering the technical and chemistry aspects of painting than I am at actually painting, LOL. Science degree+nerdy... Love watching the brush flit around the painting. Pretty, Lindsay. I definitely want to do this one, right up my alley.

    Thank you for this video! It's kind of interesting to me seeing people just find out about Inktense stuff - over here in the UK, Derwent's been making Inktense pencils for a while (although the pans are a way more recent creation), and so it's really cool to see people discovering them for the first time if that makes sense. The art you made with them is absolutely gorgeous! :D

    I love inktense on fabric - i bought a set of the sticks a few years ago and I do enjoy working with them. I always heat set with a dry iron on the fabric and I have washed it and it holds up very well and doesn't stiffen the fabric like fabric paints do. After seeing your video on the pencils and finding that 40% off coupon for michaels I jumped in and bought the set of 12. I can't wait to try them out! I love that you introduce us to all of these products. I do find that I need a lot of water on the fabric but as the name implies you can build to an intense saturated color especially on fabric.

Thanks for showing us how these ink water paints flow, quite bright looking, was thinking the lavender would look a little muddy as there was so many colours but I guess this is the difference between water colours and ink water colours.

I have tried this set about 6 months ago, and found it GREAT. to use on cellulose paper for an under painting, that will not lift , for watercolours to go over...as long as you make it THIN enough...it is permanent...so great for glazing over watercolours on cheaper paper...like a "sealer" of sorts...but transparent...awesome product and much easier to use than the pencils...to get washes and large areas...love the big set, though you can buy the two separated individually...then you have 2x12 pans , instead of 1x24 pans...thanks again for the awesome demo...Janis

I don't recall what it was called.. but there is a way to make your postcards waterproof.

    So if you apply them thinly, are they really *fully* waterproof then or are they just more waterproof than other watermedia?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in my experimenting if you wet the watercolor paper and then apply them they are permenent. If you apply them on dry paper they can still lift. They don't lift on prewashed fabric tho. I think the sizing in watercolor paper prevents full indelibility and wetting the paper disturbs the sizing a bit.

    I have never been very happy with Inktense products. There are so many other paints (I know they are supposed to be ink) that give better quality colors. I couldn't find my blocks so I used my pencils and a wet brush to get the liquid character you were using. The colors come out looking flat. I loved the picture and will try again with some other product. I should confess I am not a great painter and it isn't unusual for my first try to not look so good, but I think part of the blame is from the Inktense colors. I noticed that the name of the colors you were using do not match the names on my pencils. Do you think they are trying to fit into the paint community by making their names match closer to standard color names? Hmmm... Thanks for the video, loved the picture.

      I think the goal with the pan set is to bring out only lightfast colors and those tend to be more muted. There are 9 new colors in the pand not in the regular lightfast range. I found the pencils to be more luminous than the blocks. I recommend trying them on fabric, they are wonderful! This project can be done with your favorite watercolors tho so use what works best for you!

    Agh. The evil bead! They’ll getcha.
    I didn’t know they made a 24 set. I think i want these. I’d like to use them for the underpainting, light washes of color blocking that won’t lift. Do you think they’re worth it for that purpose? I don’t want them really for full paintings.

      It's up to you, they are lightfast tho (23 of the 24, watch out for cherry) so there should not be any issue.

      It's confusing because I think they released a 12 set and then came out with set #1 and set #2. If yu get set #1 and set #2 there are no duplicates and the colors in #1 and #2 together are in the 24 set according to Derwent. On blick they list three 12 pan sets and one has duplicates. Here is the derwent chart with lightfast info and you can see what colors are in what sets: media.accobrandspartner.com/a/420096?

    Can you get the same effect doing that painting with the Inktense pencils? Can you still mix colors as well if you scribble the pencils on a palette, wet and then mix? I have the pencils but I haven’t used them yet so I’m wondering what is the best way to use them.

    Thanks Lindsay. I got a 12 color set of the inktense pans thinking it would be good for plein aire. And was so disappointed how opaque and dull they were when they dried. Almost chalky looking but not in a good pastel painting way. Also I got muddy color when mixing. Maybe the 24 set is better for mixing as there are more to choose from. I'm glad I found them on a super sale and got them for a song. I gave them to the kids as they don't do mixing or care if they stay transparent. 😉🙃💜

    • @thefrugalcrafter

      Oh no! That's a bummer, I think they ha anorinal 12 set and then did away with it opting for a set #1 and set #2 with no overlap in colors. I know they wanted to only bring the lightfast colors out in the pans so that's probably why the colors were dull. I felt the same way about the blocks (LOVED the vibrant pencils) until I used them on fabric and I was hooked! I don't quilt properly however I have an idea that I'd like to do an art quilt sometime using these! I've seen other quilters use them and it is so pretty. Maybe try them on fabric and see.

    I ve been checking them but would like to know what you think.....Which ones of the inktense are better to work on the fabric...pencils or the pan. ?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends if you want to apply them dry or wet . You can do both with the blocks. I am going to try the pand on fabric soon so I'll have a better idea then. I will say I prefer the pencils on twill, denim or canvas as it grabs the pigment. On soft fabric (like t shirt material) I prefer painting it on like eith blocks or pans.
