  • New, updated edition of my PixInsight Beginner Tutorial - and for the first time including the stacking with WBPP! Part 2 covers a basic processing workflow incl. Gradient removal, SPCC, stretching, curve transformation, creating and applying masks, color saturation and hue management and sharpening.
    Free data for stacking and processing as well as a detailed PDF with all steps explained is available on my Patreon site. Thanks to a 7 day free testing period you can access and download it for free, but obviously if you find it valuable staying a bit with us for the price of a coffee a month is appreciated!

    I don't comment very often on TH-cam, but these videos definitely deserve a positive comment. One of the chief challenges I have found in getting started with astrophotography is that there are many TH-camrs who demonstrate things, but precious few who understand the distinction between demonstration and teaching. You do a great job of teaching - systematically breaking down something complex into manageable chunks but also explaining WHY you are doing things, not merely where to click. I will be joining. Thank you!

      And it is exactly these kind of comments, which motivate me to create even more of these videos 😊 Thanks for your kind words 🙏🏻

      I agree, your videos are incredible. Just starting this one. My question is that if you run drizzle in WBPP, which master image do you open to begin editing? I do (2) runs of drizzle@@viewintospace

    I have to agree with other comments, there is a difference between telling and teaching and you definitely are a great teacher! As a bird photographer this is a completely different way of thinking and working and with your tutorial I think im getting in the right direction for the first time, Vielen Dank!

    The videos by you and a few others have been a saviour as it has meant I now use Pixinsight as my main processor after Stacking with APP I was so resistant as the learning curve was steep but you all have made this very easy, this and the x-terminator addons

    At 5:44 you click between two stacked images and go to one to the other what keys do you use to do that?
    Love your vids I'm a new beginner with Pixinsight. tks

      Simply save the final image as tiff (not jpg!!!) and open it in the post processing tool of your choice

    Another Hit from Sascha:
    [What I learned] regarding SPCC never new how to read the resulting curve, is it good? is it bad? now I do :-), Moving the midtones in the Screen Transformation for a stretch, using the cursor to get the readout for the curves transformation and properly set the S-curve, using control points for your saturation. Again, best decision I did re my processing... almost embarrassing as I've been with PixInsight for several years... lessons learned: Do NOT skip on the fundamentals!
    [Follow-Up Question] regarding the gradient removal, I notice you used the "subtraction" again to get rid of the corner gradient that was still left over after the first application. Is there a way to really tell what is Light Pollution versus Vignetting - I understand that division is recommended for vignetting, and of course - I do trial and error - but was wondering if you have some "rules of thumb/heuristics" to decide when to use Subtraction vs Division in Gradient / Background Modelization.
    [General Comments] To restate from other previous comments, this is a superior production, in that the content, the instructions, the voice-track and the visuals (zooming in on the process and menus, highlighting key items) significantly augments the tutorial. While other authors do a good job at their tutorials, I have issues with not keeping up - either they talk to fast, or they assume where I can find a process or menu setting, and I have to pause the video endless times to track the conversation and make it match the PI menu/step flow - Not with Sascha - his balance is perfect and allows someone to follow him along! GREAT JOB! THANK YOU!!

      Thanks for your kind words - appreciated.... About gradient removal unfortunately this tutorial is outdated..... all moves so fast..... Have a look at my recent video about Gradient Correction - that is the best gradient removal tool presently and DBE and ABE are legacy.

    Wow. I really appreciate these tutorials. On my computer All Processes appears as a single column which I can scroll through. How do I make All Processes open fully across the screen?

      You can't unfortunately - it is only a singe column

    Your videos are great but I noticed that you have newer version than mine, Im new to this and I just downloaded the trial version which I guess the options or menus are not the same like ie. In my menu to add the files for gaia I dont see the option Gaia DR3/SP only DR2 AND DR3 would it make a difference dropping then in dr3

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Please try to update your version - you need absolutely the /SP for SPCC to work.

    Hello Sasha, about SPCC, in specific the QE Curves, where I can find the IMX294 sensor camera infos? I see that in not in the list
    thanks for all and clear skies

      Not available. Just stick with the default "Ideal QE Curve" and all is fine.

    Sasha, it never occurred to me to run DBE multiple times on the same data. 🤯

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, this was here with ABE, and here it's a little bit trial and error, but with DBE this can be very powerful as you can tackle various gradients or areas iteratively.

    Is the spcc not destroyed, when you select a single colour - in this video e.g. it was blue- to sature it? In the official spcc tutorial it ist not recommended to do it.

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you are completely correct. This is why on the advances tutorials the stars are removed and processed separately. So on the nebula you can mess around with the colors and the stars you process with SPCC and then do not touch the color anymore.

    • @user-eq2bn5nu9n
      @user-eq2bn5nu9n 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@viewintospace Hmmh, sounds to me like: SPCC is only made for star colours. I think, the PI- tutorial itself does not support this view. So I suppose that after colour calibration most PI users forget, what they did at the beginning of their workflow with their large Gaia data base and begin to paint their pretty colourful picture as they like. Maybe that this is the common understanding of deep sky photo- astronomy.

    13:10 you confused me there. You switched many parameters back and forth without a good explanation. Why is L-extreme so different from the Antlia ALP? Then yku quickly mention mono and revert back. Its too bad, the rest of the video was very well explained.

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Starting 13.10 I explain Dual-Narrowband, the first 2 settings are with Dual-Narrowband always as shown - Photon Flux and Ideal QE-Curve. Below you always need to chose your filter. Different dual band filters have different band pass sections - so it is crucial for SPCC to know what filter you used.

    Your videos are great and helped me very much so Thanks for that. I steel have a problem that i can't solve with the SPCC. With all the changes I made I receive all the time this message: Error: The image has no valid astrometric solution: masterLight_BIN_1_4144x2822_EXPOSURE_180_00s_FILTER_NoFilter_RGB_drizzle_1x_autocrop_integration_autocrop_ABE_ABE .
