I love top fuel bikes. Raced normally aspirated bikes for years. Never thought much about it till now so a question. Is what they spray into intake at start up the same fuel they run on?
They start on alcohol, or pump gas, then feed the nitro. It's just too hard to start the engine on nitro alone... nitro is nasty business, and extremely unforgiving...lol...from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠
They use alcohol (or gas if cold) since you can't start an engine on nitro and nitro really need to be under compression to light.. but even alcohol motors use the same process.. allows the engine to spins fast enough to run the mechanical fuel pump :) (and on SUPER HUGH compression applications w/ nitromethane) build heat in the motor. .that would be like a/fuel dragster for example.. the blown stuff is preeeeetty lo compression stuff normally) 😊
Google top fuel dragster starting with nitro in cylinder it’s most impressive that nitro is wicked unstable unforgiving stuff as the other guy said zero room for mistakes there is a certain sequence in how you manage and operate on nitro and there is no room for deviation when you deviate you create a bomb quickly every time like clockwork the guys who run nitro and the guys who work on the cars that run nitro or the bikes do not get enough praise for how crazy that fuel is to use it’s as close to a bomb in a controlled manner that you write down the track as it gets top fuel nitro bikes
Judging from the contact patch on Vantine's bike during that DQ run, it's twisting the rear suspension and putting more weight on the right side of the tire at the big end of the track, and pushing the bike left. Maybe there's a broken strut that's not showing up until it's under power? Just a thought...
First, I'm not into motorcycle drag racing. Around the 23:40 mark on your video when he took off, note that his bike when on to the left wheely bar. That tells me his leftward ride was mechanical. Sorry if I don't know the exact reason. Looking at where he launched from, I wonder if the bike would drift right if he had launched from the center of the black line instead of slightly on the right side. It is possible the right side of his tire was gripping or slipping compaired to the left and center of his tire. That could have caused the leftward drift. I really am guessing on that.
He's been there. He just needs some funding and more manpower. I heart some folks are interested in taking over the program. Thanks a lot for watching and following the channel. Which Top Fuel Motorcycle in this video was your favorite and why?

Just found this great channel,,,,,,,,,, will be here every time. I love it! When I raced in the 70's ON a bye run we held lane or DQ. Times change,,, btw I loved all the ones that took the flag! Mitch did pill one out,,,,,, great skills! TY
Great video. Great job of commentating, so far. At 8:00 mark, I would guess, frame flexing, for some reason, or uneven traction, side to side, on rear tire, bad tire, or burnout, front, or rear tire not on centerline. I hope the figure out what it actually is. Very interesting to know. At 11:01, I saw a steering damper on a bike, on next run. A simple possibility there, also. On the rules for drifting over the center line, if a bike has shown a tendency to drift the same direction, more than once, maybe twice, in the same event, it presents a strong risk to its rider and to his opponent, in any future side by side runs. Even in a single bike run it points to strong risk in a future side by side run. Rule, or no rule, I can understand the DQ, after several times of drifting like that. I wouldn't want to race him.

I agree with Dan W to a degree, it appears when it goes into tire shake it seems the slick rides up on its right side. I would make a slick change . Maybe a slower reel on the tape may show if the suspension is twisting alot, but you can see the left side of the tire never peaks.

It looked like Dave felt the bike pulling within 100' and he started to counter act by leaning right almost instantly but the inertia force of the bike was just pulling left hard regardless ! It also looked like the bike jumped hard left at the 100' mark !
Torque steer is what the slow motion video shows when the bike leaves it 60 straight because of strong left side wheelie bar wheel contact but once it gets up on the tire the input from the wheelie bar goes away because of diminishing Torque leverage over the tire so tire speed is rapidly increasing and so is tire growth thus unloading the wheelie bar and now the front wheel has a say in the matter so with the Torque steer that is being applied the chassis is flexing thus driving the bike left ..if it wheelies the whole length of the track it would go straight...... Larry Spiderman Mcbride has always been my favorite CH3² kind of a home town heroe but I like all bikes the ones that go straight the ones that only turn left the ones that jump and definitely the ones that drive edges of the tires
Great coverage, I enjoyed it. This is just a guess: Regarding crossing over into the left lane, it would have been helpful if the camera had been located up in the air, perhaps 10 to 15 feet above the track surface, in a fixed position pointing straight down the track from directly behind the racer's staging position, and not turning to follow the racer. Make it follow as closely as possible as though he had a bullseye on his back. Also, use the slow motion setting if one is available. I think the swingarm is flexing/twisting ever so slightly to start the process. Noting the chain pulls entirely on the right side, producing a cantilever effect on the swingarm. Viewed from above, the bending allows the rear tire to move toward the 11o'clock position, i.e. the front of the bike moves slightly to the right because the rear wheel has turned to the left. As the rider senses this he makes a move to counter/correct for the bending, etc. and by the time he does that the rear wheel is really chewing the track for traction, and staying on the throttle causes it to continue toward the left lane with little correction remaining for the rider to make before he's already in the wrong lane. I don't know that it would have been any clearer to see what's happening, but I truly think an overhead camera pointing in a fixed direction so everything can be seen with the same fixed eye might reveal the cause. Whatever it is likely happens within the first one or two tenths of a second, i.e. the moment the swingarm is being slammed from a no load condition. Incidentally, has the same problem ever occurred when he ran in the left lane, and have other racers experienced this problem? Best wishes, and I hope this helps.

Hi Guys quick observation without knowing the set up; have a look at the wheelie bar wheels, it appears that the left wheel is loading up before the right! This could be a number of things if engine toque is doing this and all other things are equal it could be adjusted to counter it. But it also could be as simple as the left wheelie wheel is not running as freely as the right creating drag, pulling the bike left. I’m sure it is sorted by now.
I kinda like the rule the way it is bcuz it gives more meaning to a solo run and forces the teams to be more strategic when deciding to make the solo pass or not. I think every run down the track in a competition should mean something.
Nobody has a choice on a By-run dude... It's part of the rules to keep equal wear and tear on each competitor's machine.... And nowhere in the rules does it say you have to hammer on it... Or how long it takes you within reason just as long as you make the run
In ref. to Dave Vantines situation. These rules were originally designed for side by side racing and should be modified for single lane passes or by runs. Jay seems to have lost touch with the spirit of the rules and needs to reevaluate this rule for sure.

I know I used to race at Willowbank Queensland Australia I was told to change my forks in doing so we put the new set in but we didn't set it properly that way it was always pulling to one side after resetting the front forks and adjusting them on the triple tree it now run straight and that is on a super Blackbird which done 223 at 10.2.
In ref to the rules, if you cross the center line it should be a DQ, period. I'm not sure I would let it run, after doing it twice, it's a danger to the person he races or to himself.
I never want to see a team put in so much time, money & sweat & then to have an issue at the track. This must be a DQ just for the safety of the riders. What's scary is that if he was in the Left Lane, he'd be aiming for the wall. DQ while you still have a rider & bike, race another day.

A Russian was driving on a freeway heading into Moscow when he joined a huge traffic jam. He opened his window to ask a police officer what was holding up the traffic? The officer replied "Putin is standing in the road, threatening to douse himself in petrol and light himself up unless he gets donations for his war in Ukraine". The driver says, "how much are people donating"? To which the police officer replies "about a gallon".
I'd be focusing my attention to the wheelie bar on his bike hooking to the left. Make sure it's absolutely square to the rear suspension. It looks to me in slow motion the bike is fighting and rocking on the wheelie bar more then it should . Once he gets out of the power and the wheelie bar is up he's able to straiten it out a lot more.
I realize they don't get enough TF entries all the time but inline 4's and v-twins should run separately or have the same rules ie both can do across the line burnouts or no across the line burnouts and the crew pushes you back. I know from running my alky dragster the NHRA is specific that if you burnout across the line you must be able to back up to stage " no pushing" allowed.
The can both burnout across the line. The Harleys just wait back because they don't need to and are set up to run for a much shorter amount of time. I spent my teen years riding my 10 speed up and down the bike path in Southern California when that place was still affordable to live in and 10 speeds were still in fashion. Sometimes while riding with no hands sitting straight up the bike would seem to make up it's own mind which directions we were going. It did the same little wiggle that Vantine's bike did and to me it felt like if I tried to force a turn it would flip.
These guys are real pros they know step one of spectacular anything is adding nitro into your fuel tank start and hold on for your 50/50 shot of boom or holy sh$?t fast
I knew a guy who has a cnc shop from Elkhart Ks who had a top fule drag bike. It was red with no stickers, it wasn't a sponsored bike but I rode it a block in idle. I was scared shitless of that thing. But I've always wondered if he ever made anything of that bike.
Bye runs exist because there is an odd number of competitors in a given round, otherwise everyone races an opponent. Therefore I argue that all rules for a normal run should apply to bye runs which should require a timed pass be completed from the tree to end of the track no matter what ET and speed is achieved. It isn't fair to the other competitors when one competitor is not required to at least heat cycle their equipment during a bye run and avoid all wear and tear on the bye run equipment. Besides, if you can't make a complete bye run then you would not have been able to make a normal run against a competitor and you would have lost that round anyway. Just like crossing the center line should be a disqualifier whether someone is in the other lane or not. Sorry, but if your equipment cannot run safely down the track, you shouldn't be allowed to race until you find and fix the problem. It isn't fair to endanger a competitor in the other lane because something is wrong with your equipment, no matter what you are racing.

Yes' Id like to see Man Cup follow the NHRA rule. Thanks a lot for watching and following the channel. Which Top Fuel Motorcycle in this video was your favorite and why?
Way to much power and weight to power over....I know...it's happend to me a few times...I did see something metal flying off when he launches... also he was pointing a little left... after seeing the other guys doing it on the oth r runs...I woulda pointed a fraction right...nice job keeping it upright....
Rear wheel alignment??? Someone please respond.
I know for a fact people think this guy is a clown but I’m sure he knows how they feel and chooses to confidently stride as himself, love it!
Seen him comment on another video saying “Hey, I may not be for everyone, but thanks for watching.” Had to give him thumbs up for that.
Are they using CVTs?
Awesome like cylone dragster how is the weather
I know I used to race at Willowbank Queensland Australia I was told to change my forks in doing so we put the new set in but we didn't set it properly that way it was always pulling to one side after resetting the front forks and adjusting them on the triple tree it now run straight and that is on a super Blackbird which done 223 at 10.2.
What do I eat and drink, O'l Lady and Jack Daniel's. 😂
In ref to the rules, if you cross the center line it should be a DQ, period. I'm not sure I would let it run, after doing it twice, it's a danger to the person he races or to himself.
the alignment track is off. rear wheel is pointed left.

Still keep hoping to see something on Russ Collins bikes and exploits.
Miss my years with Ray Price Harley.
Props to the Star Spangled Banner soul brother!!!
Wondering if it's losing cylinder pressure and it's steering the bike like what happens when a fuel car drops a cylinder!?
11:13 you ready? you ready? let's go!
That's how you do it!
Watching from Phnom Penh Cambodia love the nitro cycles
I never want to see a team put in so much time, money & sweat & then to have an issue at the track. This must be a DQ just for the safety of the riders. What's scary is that if he was in the Left Lane, he'd be aiming for the wall. DQ while you still have a rider & bike, race another day.
Super Channel Thank You for Sharing! 👍 👍 👍 👍
If ya build it straight, it goes straight.

So they appreciate that. Quiet a few warning tickets. 140 in a 65,, SERIOUSLY
His left Teste was heavier than his right one.......Juuuuuuuuuuuuuust Sayin!
Top coverage,as usual- you’re a great host, super knowledgeable and enthusiastic, thanks for this upload brother! I usually enjoy watching with a beer and a spliff, btw!🤣🤣
I think his back wheel alignment is wrong my brother have a funny bike that would do that we had to point it towards the chain just the cone hair and that helped the bike go straight old chassis maybe

crossing center line...front wheel of bike is on a slight lean, forks twisted or something..so will always pull left or right..I have three bikes that flip me off on corners because they were damaged beforehand in accident and the forks were ever so slightly bend
Man Mitch sure did ride that beast out 🍺🍺
Check the axle for wear in the frame I feel like the wheel's tilted a slight bit I use to race these bikes and worked with them for years
I think they need to check the rear wheel alignment. That can make the bike go left. Also, a bent frame can do it too.
THAT IS THE ANSWER. TO IT PULLING LEFT.
You must be watching main stream television. LOL.
Keep the videos coming top knotch stuff
I realize they don't get enough TF entries all the time but inline 4's and v-twins should run separately or have the same rules ie both can do across the line burnouts or no across the line burnouts and the crew pushes you back. I know from running my alky dragster the NHRA is specific that if you burnout across the line you must be able to back up to stage " no pushing" allowed.
The can both burnout across the line. The Harleys just wait back because they don't need to and are set up to run for a much shorter amount of time. If you saw on my channel a few years ago Jay Turner ran out of fuel against Sam Wills. Thanks a lot for watching and following the channel. Does anybody know if Jim Fagan still racing TF Bikes?
You got a good little hustle going on here.
I like coffee while watching cycle drag a cup of go go juice!
Definitely should no lose on a bye run. Just lose lane choice. Tough for DV and the fans.
I'm with you. Thanks a lot for watching and following the channel. Which Top Fuel Motorcycle in this video was your favorite and why?
FORMERLY KNOWN AS WELL HOW YOU DOIN HERE. Good show Jack, thanks.
lol thank you
im thinking frame flex......left hand drive turns the rear tire right, making you go left
These machines are amazing
Set axle axle 1/8th back on right side to compensate drive pull
Yes 1/8" or even 1/4" for that much pull.

All of them .... incredible talent... mechanic and rider !!!!!

23:50, yeah, back stepped out slightly to right, thus he veered left.
Great video though,,,, keep em coming
These guys are real pros they know step one of spectacular anything is adding nitro into your fuel tank start and hold on for your 50/50 shot of boom or holy sh$?t fast
Awesome channel!
I knew a guy who has a cnc shop from Elkhart Ks who had a top fule drag bike. It was red with no stickers, it wasn't a sponsored bike but I rode it a block in idle. I was scared shitless of that thing. But I've always wondered if he ever made anything of that bike.
Great job Jack.
Rear wheel steering! Rear wheel must be parallel to the left? Right side sprocket pulls wheel to the left (steering).
Rule book is there for a reason. Cross the line, DQ.

Do u wear the same pomeraide that corn pop used to wear??
We love and miss you SPIDER MAN. Hurry back
Could you put rear steer in a bike like we do on 4 link cars? Love Cycle Drag from Cedar Rapids Ia. Buddies and I all had Kaw triples in the day. Keep On!
We have taken singles in NHRA TA/FC to take parts we just stage take the green and shut it off at the line. Why break something doesn’t pay more to tear things up
anthem without kneeling . very good
