      I've a compost spreader like that, when the compost/soil is damp it does sometimes ball up as it rolls, so not all those would have been stones some would have been wet balls of soil. Even so you want a fine spread and not clumps, those I'd just put on a flower bed or under a hedge.

    Thank you very much for your video. Since watching it, I have gradually learned a lot about lawn knowledge, which is very helpful. Only slowly did I realize that my lawn had been encroached on by Poa annua. The area is very large, and I always thought it was normal before. Now I would like to ask, how should I choose to replant grasses that are more ornamental according to your video. I am in Birmingham, the lawn is about 110 square meters, most of it is well lit, because there are trees around it, a small part is shaded. The soil drainage is relatively good, there is no water accumulation, and a small part has green moss, which I think is too acidic. Can you give me some advice on grass seed selection for my situation? Thank you so much.

    Thatch is a pain in the A for St Augustine yards. I usually just mow extremely low in early March with the catch bag on. I use that brown dried thatch in my compost pile. Use scotts 3 day and mow every week raising the cut a notch every week until you have a 4 inch cut. Remember St Augustine yards do great when kept about 3 to 4 inches.

    How do you feel about pregerminating the grass seeds. I recently came across some videos of people soaking the seeds for about 3 days (draining and refilling every 12 hours) before spreading them. Seems to make sense to get them going before placing them in the a yard.

      Depends on your weather conditions. In Spring soil temperature need to be above 55 degrees to germinate. If you seed too late in the Spring hot temperatures could burn up your seedlings if your don't water a few times a day. Fall is the best time as temperature are warm not hot and the soil temperature should be well above 55 degrees. Depending on grass type you should try to get atleast 1 inch of water a week into the ground but if not definitely get a good misting of water on the seed 3 times a day if possible for best germination. Good luck...

      I'm in the UK, well Northern Ireland to be exact. I do a lot of seeding in May, a lot of places in the UK start seeded in march or April but we can still get a good frost right up until may here in Belfast
      It will really depend on your local weather, I seed lawns but will also have to water them if we hit a dry spell. As the op said above, fall is a great time to seed lawns
      September is my favourite month to seed lawns

    • @Premier_lawns_official
      @Premier_lawns_official  ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming there is growth you can apply weed control all year around
      However, a general rule in the UK is March to October
      The earlier or later in the year it should still work but if there isn't much growth it takes much longer to control the weeds and the lawn looks worse for longer as they die off

    Just regular top soil as opposed to compost? No value seen in adding organic matter subsoil post aeration? Also seems interesting that scarification occurred after aeration as opposed to before. Genuinely curious about the decision-making here.

      It is argued that by scarifying/dethatching first, it removes the thatch/debris layer and provides a clearer service area for the aeration@@Premier_lawns_official

      Think of all that life (micro organisms) that live in that soil. I'm returning it to the lawn.
      A lot of people leave the cores on the lawn for this reason
      That looks too unsightly for my liking so this is a compromise

    My yard would take LOTS of work to get it to even grow weeds. As it is, nothing grows in the front yard. It's heavily shaded, and not even weeds will grow in most of it. Also, the "soil" is basically just clay with a tiny bit of dirt mixed in. Digging in it is very much a chore. I once rented a gas-powered, 2-man auger to dig a hole so I could move a tree. That auger even had trouble getting through that ground.
    I fear making it so grass would grow would cost way too much.
