- At Nissan, the word “NISMO” means “add performance,” and the 2018 Sentra NISMO follows that recipe-just barely. Its engine makes the same 188 hp as the SR Turbo; as with the Turbo, a CVT is standard and a 6-speed manual is optional. Exterior changes include lower-body bits, a rear spoiler, and a redesigned rear bumper. The NISMO rides lower and rolls on 18-inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Inside is a microsuede-and-leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather shift knob, and push-button start. Is this a performance bargain or performance bust?

@@RaitisRides Honestly, if this car only came with the 6 speed manual -- it would have a better reputation. The CVT is the reason why this car has such a bad reputation. The other thing people need to know -- the default mode is very conservative. The turbo doesn't really spool until 4500 rpm in default setting. Press the Sport button -- and you get the missing midrange power with the turbo kicking in around 3000 rpm. Makes a very massive difference -- the car is way more lively. With the manual, this car can runs a respectable 15.3 in the quarter. A CVT version does it in around 16.0. I know -- because I own an SR Turbo.

I really appreciate you saying that! It surprised me when I first heard Nissan was doing that as well. It will be interesting to see where they take this whole NISMO concept with future models.
My friend actually owns one, it ran 190 to the wheels on a dyno so maybe around 205 to the crank? I think it's a pretty fun car actually, not far off the 2018 civic si, and actually beats the 9th gen si. Matted with the 6SPD it's a lot more fun than the spec sheet may suggest!

Bought a 2017 nismo Sentra almost a year ago. Definitely not quick by any means, but it gets a lot of looks because it’s not something you see everyday. Good review! Always enjoy your videos 😊

I work for Nissan. I watched the development of this car happen in front of my own eyes. As a former owner of 3 SE-R's and a 2000 Sentra SE, I wanted one, I really did. But they didn't give us the car they showed us in 2013. Before this came out, Hyundai announced the Elantra Sport and they won me over with the styling and the multi-link rear suspension. 32k miles later on my 2017, absolutely no regrets. Oh, and I drove it off the lot for under $19k.
I totally understand where you are coming from. I can see why you would go with the Elantra Sport! It's crazy how Nissan is going backwards while others like Hyundai are really moving forward!

I am a Nissan enthusiast but it seems to me they are getting too gratuitous with the use of the NISMO name with their cars. That Sentra is a sharp looking car though.

I own one and I love every bit of it except paddle shifters. At the end of the day, I ignore the price, performance, and competitions. She’s my daily driver.

Or just update it. I actually bought a sentra in 2016 and for whatever reason it had the radio and stuff that been used in like the 2006 nissans. Then i guess enough people complained about it and now the 2017 and newer ones come with the updated interior and their radio can play bluetooth music. Though they didnt actually update anything they just refreshed it and cut new holes everywhere.
Why do they even bother. Those specs should be the specs of the regular Sentra. The exterior is nice I give them that. But the car truly disappoints everywhere else.

This Sentra nismo is just suspension and cosmetics... for normal driver, it’s a bad choice, for me, who’s a fan and also a broke college student, I like it. It’s the closest to a nismo I could get without bankrupting
Kim Reuel you don't need to buy a brand-new car. For 27K you can get a way better nismo car if you don't go the brand new route. You can even get a way better car if you go outside of nissan. This car is not a true performer. It looks more like a marketing idea adding the nismo to the sentra. But if you truly like the car who cares, right?

I actually love the GT350 wich is not the best performer there is but I love the car...so... Stick to your brand if you want and drive what you love, that's what truly makes a car enthusiast. Btw, the car still looks really good. I'm just not pleased with the performance area.
My 07 passat is faster then this thing. That's such a disappointment. I work at a dealer. We get a lot of sentras. Personally, I think they're cheap shit, but I thought maybe the nismo would be better, but probably not.

The older Sentra SE-R's made more power (B16s=200hp). Now the SE-R Nismo back in the day was fun, made more power when NISMO actually made parts for the car (I beat myself for selling the NISMO header)

Which was fine when the competing civics and stuff had like 197hp at most, but we're talking about 2018 standards. I have an older bmw 335i with a few mods makes 500hp. Why would you buy this?

This car is such a fail in many ways. Not only because of power but because of pricing. I dont see why anyone would pay 24 grand for this when you have other better options. Si, Elantra Sport, hell I rather take an SR altima over this. From 2002-2011 the ser Sentra was special. This is nothing but an SR model with a body kit and suspension differences

Boosted Nismo yup. I’m comparing, and also saving. I think I’m going for handling for now. I want to lower it and pull out wheels(for looks) and alignment. I’ll save up again for exhaust, downpipes, cold air, then tune. If I wasn’t a student and a renter, I’d be done the first week I had it.

Great point at the end regarding the price point. I would say this Sentra nismo looks better than the civic Si, the nismo badge will also make the sales happen and can always modify to make more power. Great review.

It's sad nowadays that marketing people just put legendary badges on cars just to get sales(Mitsubishi with puting the "Eclispe" nameplate on a crappy and hideous crossover that looks just as cross as the person who buys it and then realizes it's shit.) I own a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R and even though it's 15 years old, it'll still hand most of the newer cars' asses to them. As a Nissan owner, this makes me cringe at the fact that they have the nerve to put a "NISMO" badge on it and not change much on it like they did with the GT-R and 370Z. Now if you don't really know much about cars and just want something cool and good looking(I've also heard it's fun to drive), it's not bad especially if you get a manual. Plus it has pretty good legroom for those that are 5'5 or above. But again, the older hot hatches(Including the Sentras) performance wise would beat this thing up and down on a track without breaking a sweat.

Someone shopping at this price point may also wish to consider a 2016 Miata if 2 seats are fine. It would still be under warranty. I agree with Scotty that since Renault bought Nissan, the quality hasn't been there as it has in the past.

Well,the engine displacement is a little small and the power's a little lower than I'd like,but at least a turbo and 6 speed manual transmission are combined as what I'd want in a car. As for the lack of displacement,there's no cheap easy way to fix that,but as for power,considering the fact that it's turbocharged,I'm sure aftermarket solutions will easily allow it to run a stock power level of 200+ crank horsepower with fairly minimal effort,at the expense of having to be a little patient and letting an extra year or so go by. However,there already exists a few limited upgraded performance parts for the Juke that may very well be compatible with this vehicle,too. So at least there's hope for making it a little better power and performance wise than stock fairly reliably without having to necessarily spend a fortune. In short,I suppose what I'm trying to say is that this car at least has some fairly decent potential,depending upon the owner and driver's budget as well as to how the aftermarket performance industry decides to open up to this platform. In all honesty though,it is a rather nice looking vehicle for what it is.

Beautiful car. Definitely think Nissan's onto something with a small sporty fun car.. unfortunately they really have to give up with the CVT. I truly can't believe that there's a CVT in a Nismo level car no matter the model. The people who can't drive manual shouldn't be SOL in a Sentra. This would catch more enthusiast eyes if it had just a bit more power and a transmission that doesn't take away from the experience... Exterior is as good as it gets though. I have no complaints with the current generation Sentra's body and Nismo definitely gave it some much needed sharpening up. If you could sell a person on just looks, this car would have no issues on the market

You do. It’s called buying a turbo for the Juke and putting it into this car. The Juke in the US and the Sentra SR Turbo/Nismo use the same engine and even share the same gearboxes.

This Nismo Sentra tbh is a piece of crap. If I'm paying the premium price for a Nismo Sentra, they should be able to give me atleast a 250/275hp car. Nissan really dropped the ball on this one.

Besides, most people that buy a NISMO badged car doesn't buy it to drive miss Daisy around town, if you know what I mean. Taking the Ford ST and RS into account with also the Civic type-r to name a few, Nissan did not step up the plate.

Not my first choice but it is a sweet little car. At least Nissan is still in the business of making cool cars. For the price point though...pretty much all of its competition offers much more for the same price.
That is the issue with this car. If the Cvic Si didn't exist then this would be an easier sell. I don't think I have ever seen one of these o the road.

I have the 2017 SR Turbo, and it's a chill decent car, and different. Kind of low on thr HP, but from stock and with a flashabke tune, it dyno's 247hp. Not bad for $700

No, the Sentra did NOT replace the 510 in 1982, the Sentra replaced the B210/210 as Nissan's entry level car.
The "original" 510 in the US market was replaced by the 610, and then the 710, before Nissan realized American drivers didn't care for either car as much as they loved that first 510. So what did Nissan do? Produced a poor copy of that 510 and to ensure its success gave it the old name.... 510.

I think unless you're a Nissan fanboy you'd have to be nuts to buy this over a FiST, FoST or Si. I do like some of the styling but the performance is just not there. Hey Joe what are the torque numbers on that thing? And btw how did you enjoy your wheel time with that GT350? 😊👍🏻 My local Ford dealer has a 2016 GT350, white with blue stripes and only 1,600 miles on the clock 😃 I might pull the trigger if I can afford the insurance 😂
You bring up a very good point! The Sentra Nismo has 177 ft lbs of torque. There is not enough great things I can say about the GT350. I really want want even more now. It is so easy to drive. I love the power delivery and the sound is freaking ridiculous! Let me know if you get one! The one at your local dealer sounds amazing!

I have not seen any in Austin. So many people put this car down. Interior is cool. Dash board does what it should. Turbo has plenty of pep. Car has much more torque in Sport mode. I get 30 mpg city. 2018 came stock with Bose sound system and dual climate control. Dealer sold it for 18k with all discounts.
I put on the Bridgestone Potenza RE 71R tires. This Nismo also came with sport pedals, interior mood lighting pkg, fancy rear view mirror, and protection pkg. I had my eye on it 6 months. It never moved off the lot. It's a lot of fun to drive I think. It's all I need in the city and to me, it does not look like a ricer. I like the red facias which serve a purpose other than looks.

I actually kinda like it but for the price you can get a better equipped Mazda3 with just about the same horsepower with no Turbo. Definitely not discouraging the car I think it’s pretty cool but they’re asking way too much for a car that easily is outweighed.

I actually like the Sentra Nisomo, I drove it..it was fun. The manual transmission was not the smoothest though. CVT might be the better option on this car.

J N 2.5L vs 1.6L that’s a big difference. So 180 hp from a 1.6 is pretty good.
@@YOLORACER 188hp from a 1.6T motor isn't all that great. How is it that the 10th gen SI makes 205hp and 192lbs of torque from 1.5T motor compared to this? Numbers aren't everything but this just shows that Nissan could've done a lot better. Most especially with the Nismo model smh
As a mild sentra fan (i drive a 2001 gxe for commute) they shouldve done up the versa hatchback instead.
Dump the jukes awd drivetrain and independent rear suspension into the versa platform. Use the turbo 1.6 litre from the nismo juke.

Bust!! The concept that came out was really exciting and was hearing that it would have about 240 hp which would've been perfect, but when it released it was depressing to see that it had 180hp.
But would definitely love to see a nismo altima/maxima, crazy they haven't since they put nismo on everything now haha.

Idk about that, I did some research and the car is running 190whp with the 6speed which means it's rated at around 205? Nissan is underrating the engines

@@RaitisRides With that hp it still will keep up with the Camry's 200hp, as even though Toyota gives you more Hp they tune the engine so much that it's really not faster.
@@RaitisRides On a side note that's why each company makes two versions of their midsize cars as if you want a v6 or a turbo 4 with more powerful engines you will have to pay more!
Some constructive criticism on the reviews, don't act like you work for these companies, and try to sell everyone on every little aspect of the car. Just to give your honest opinion. You don't have to go into such detail. We are watching we can see with our own eyes.

My sister owns a 2017 one, it’s alright doesn’t really feel fast but it doesn’t feel slow either if that makes sense😅 she owns the white version which I have to say, does look very nice and she gets a ton of compliments from random ppl too. I have driven the car a crap ton of times and I do love how the car handles, very nimble in my opinion.

U see not all nissans have the same cvt’s, because the Murano 2017 cvt is better then the Sentra. Plus the Murano actually is better and faster then an edge and it costs less. Now I don’t like new cars and now most days a lot of japanese manufactures are mostly Americanized. Like Toyota, that’s gone, Honda, same, the civic no vtek. Mitsubishi, they made great cars back then, but they mostly sell for Asia and Africa. My sister has a 2018 Nissan Sentra sv, it’s slow, but I reached 85 mph. It’s a cvt, because my parents, they do know how to drive stick, but they always complain stick is too hard blah blah blah and shit. Now the Murano, for a regular person , than it’s perfect because it’s very nice for its price. I reached 105 mph on it. But steel, the most japanese cars are still better than Americans and Europeans.
Buying a car that's unique means little to no after market support can't imagine allot of performance companies investing in the sentra....
Bryan Escober the engine is the same as the one in the Juke, which had a decent amount of aftermarket performance support and even more so in Japan so the power potential is there

Terry Smith well I appreciate you watching it. This was actually the first one I’ve ever seen in person. I just think Nissan is using the NISMO name for marketing. It’s got some aesthetics that I like but needs some extra performance.

@@tmobc.r.1boi870 I love the Maxima Tmob. it's always been my favorite Japanese import sport sedan. By going with their version of their Nismo version for their flagship sedan, I really think they could at least nearly compete with other higher end German sport sedans.

There are plenty of mods for this car that will get you over 200hp there is a lot of hidden potential is this car you just have to find it but at the end of the day it’s still personal choice.

@@tupacsnoducket Nobody is paying sticker for these things. My SR Turbo stickered at 24k -- but after incentives it was only 18k. It is a steal at that price. It's very easy to tune the turbo to make 200+ horsepower -- which is why turbo motors are so awesome.
I'm happy with my stock GLI. I haven't seen a Sentra that I've EVER been impressed by.

I think Nissan could sell this better if they had a more dropped back look if you think like the stinger type body almost. The body is very bubble or rounded which even with nismo is hard to dress up. Bump up the horses to even 200/205 and this thing will sell. I get it though that it’s a business and this would take more resources. However there is a reason why the focus ST and civic Si sell! I do like the interior of this but those two changes I feel would really boost this in the market place. Nissan needs to realize there is a demand in between a GTR and their sedan/family cars for a 4 door sporty car.

There is also the Jetta GLI which I would rather choose over this and the base GLI costs about the same price and has the same equipment plus 228 horsepower, a slightly nicer interior and a better driving experience.

I actually really, REALLY like this car. Currently I own a 2015 Infiniti Q50, and I'm highly considering a 2017 or 2018 NISMO Sentra for a daily, and my Infiniti as my weekend car.
