    As a teenager in the 90's, pores were the new craze! I remember being so excited about buying my first nose strips ... to get rid of all that gunk in my pores, surely something amazing we thought back then of course. Now at age 45, I simply choose not to look at myself too closely in the mirror - hairs, pores, wrinkles, pimples, black heads, discolouration, sagging. Oh well, it's privilege to be able to age I suppose, so pores, I love you no matter how many years I tried to destroy or hide you.

    I’ve never not had acne, cystic and blackheads, comedones the whole thing! Using an oil cleanser that turns milky in contact with water, a foaming cleanser, and alternating a galactomyte serum, vitamin C, Niacinamide and retinyl oil has changed everything! I’ve nothing, not even my constant blackheads that never wanted to go away, even washing twice a day! This is the ultimate sign that my pores are cleaning up, and the oil cleanser that milks up was The Gamechanger tbh!! Frank and Body’s oil cleanser was the first and my skins just got cleaner each time!

    I hated the price for such small bottles, and like every other BHA product and "pore minimizing" product, the Glow Recipe and Peace Out ones did nothing for me. Not even control my oily face, but that I didn't mind so much as I learned to appreciate the oiliness. I'm now testing out Hero Pore Release toner, because I can't quit trying every BHA item out there!

      I looked at number of pore smoothing items and waterproof items to learn their ingredients. You know what I found usually? Wax and silicone often with Squalane and niacinamide. I plan to try using 100% silicone gel as a primer as that seems much less fussy (and cheaper) as I already use Squalane and niacinamide in my routine.

    Hey Cassandra,
    been enjoying your content for several years now (and for a variety of reasons, first and foremost your energy and weirdness 💜).
    I would usually not comment on any video here 'cause I feel like most things have already been said, but since you brought up a topic again which really irks me, I thought I might as well.
    When it comes to silicones and polymers in cosmetics, it's not so much whether they're "good" for the user (although that is a factor), but rather for this beautiful planet.
    Research has shown that they are all to different degrees not readily biodegradable and also bioaccumulative.
    If we wash ourselves after having put products on our skin, the remainder of those will go down the drain and end up either - depending where in the world you live - in rivers and oceans or in water treatment facilities which to this day don't have the means to a) filter all of those tiny tiny particles and b) dispose of the sewage sludge containing said particles properly without creating further problems environmentally speaking.
    There aren't endless amounts of papers on this ('cause it's not a money-making field obviously), but enough to provide compelling evidence already.
    Knowing this, I chose to not purchase any cosmetics that contain silicones, polymers and the like. And because of that the search for effective products that are formulated elegantly and have decent active ingredients in them is pretty damn difficult. Most of your favourites contain those things (in vast amounts at times), so I - unfortunately - cannot make use of your recommendations.
    Here's me hoping that you or your team will see this and have a look into the subject and maybe, just maybe include one or two alternatives every once in a while which won't have the
    💩 stuff in them.
    Keep up the great work - love the dedication!

    Hey Cassandra, have you ever heard of malabsorption / absorption issues of the skin? Like is that thing? I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and malabsorption in the gut with food/medication/etc. Several of the pain medications that I’ve tried and failed have been patches or topical medications, and I never noticed a difference with them. Following that line of reason, could it affect the way my skin absorbs skincare as well? I find that I really don’t notice a difference with most products, even with adapalene or clindamycin from my derm. I also notice that I don’t get expected results from chemical exfoliation, and any texture/patchiness/skin flakes are still there even after consistent use. Unfortunately it’s really hard to find a doctor familiar with my condition and my dermatologist doesn’t know too terribly much about it.
    Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice! 🩵🦋🩵

    • @morgianasartre6709
      @morgianasartre6709 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really as the skin is not meant to absorb stuff unlike the gut, it's main function is being a barrier and keeping stuff out. Going from your examples - exfoliators don't work by getting absorbed, they sit on top and break the bonds between the keratinocystes of stratum corneum, those with thicker skin might need stronger ones, if your skin is flaky and patchy it might be that the barrier is damaged (not a strech of the imagination considering ehlers danlos makes the skin more fragile) and in that case exfoliation would not help it, more likely make it worse. Adapalene is not a strong acne medication, I've tried it 2x at different points in my life and it did nothing for the acne, my derm then said that's not surprising at all as it is weak in comparison to tretinoin or accutane.

    • @iampinktea
      @iampinktea ปีที่แล้ว

      @@morgianasartre6709 I wish it was a damaged barrier 😫 most of my routine is simple, soothing, and repairing to the skin, as I have combo / dry leaning skin and don’t usually intense actives. The dry patches / flake just never seem to go away no matter what I use, moisturizing or exfoliating. I’m kinda at the point where I’m just not exfoliating anymore as I don’t see a difference when I do vs when I don’t. Luckily the dry patches are pretty localized and not all over my face, but I really wish they’d fuck off 😭 I’ve even used The Ordinary’s AHA/BHA peel a few times and never finished the bottle because I just never saw that ✨glow✨ or literally any benefits at all from it.
      I know it’s a silly thing to focus on but skincare has been such a huge source of calm for me since my illness has really taken over my life, I just wish I could see results like some other butterflies 🥺

      Dude I have EDS and I do the same thing! I've heard that medications and things don't disperse correctly within our tissues because of the differences in collagen. Ex. Topical lidocaine or dental numbing injections don't work - me and my sister (both Zebras) need like 4x the amount of anesthetic to work.

      @@Goat.Cheese Being less susceptible to anesthesia has a different mechanism that has to do with how your nerves transmit signals, not how things disperse in tissues. Certain genetic mutations affect that, supposedly it's way more common in redheads.
