no matter how many billion years will pass till the earth comes to an end there is never gonna be a better song than this... its just simlpy impossible
Fade to black is simply the best song of humanity, I'm pleased that I was born in the correct age just to listen to this masterpiece. This song is beyond what a human can do. Fade to black friends \m/
totally 1000% agree, the last solo especially was the best I've heard it sound, I always watch this performance of this song before I go play for what I need to aspire to, LONG LIVE KIRK the RIPPER HAMMETT!!!!!
3:44-3:48 That girl is so in love with Jason. And he's not singing to her, no, he's actually saying, "Hey, you and me, backstage, after the show. Be there."
ME 2, ALSO THE 2008 ROCK AM RING SHOW, BAND AND CROWD WERE FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS, ONE OF THE ONLY SHOWS WHERE JAMES DOESNT NEED TO TELL THE CROWD TO GET LOUDER OR MORE INTO THE CONCERT, AS FAR AS ALL AROUND SHOWS THE 08 ROCK AM RING SHOW IS MAYBE MY FAVORITE ALONG WITH SEATTLE AND THIS SHOW DEPENDING ON HOW IM FEELING THAT DAY, CERTAIN SONGS ARE BETTER THEN OTHERS WITH THOSE 2 SHOWS YOU MENTIONED
James playing the solo rhythm riff with one hand while pumping the crowd gives me chills every time. This is one of their greatest performances of this song. The whole show is incredible.
lars was at his peek of playing drums in this very period of the 90s. so creative with all the breaks and fill ins. amazingly loose and still hard kicking
I remember seeing them on 29-Jan-97 in Minneapolis, same day I got my driver's license. This sounds just as good as it did that night!!!! And see that shirt Jason's wearing?? I used to have that!!! I walked out of that show wearing a shirt that was ripped down the middle!!!! Good memories....now i will just say goodbye....goodbye....goodbye....yeah...GOODBYE!!!!!
This was my first mainstream concert. I saw this tour in Tampa in 1997. Even got kicked out of my house to go to this, as I was 17 and my mom didn't approve. To this day, one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
He’s still a great drummer in 2017. Sure he’s not like he was because he’s on his mid 50s but he’s still good for being that old. All of them are and they still sound amazing live and have the same feel they always have.
These guys had the balls to expand their musical abilities on account of maybe losing their entire fanbase, and they fucking became better than anything else!!
This was one of Lars's best gig's he ever made. If you watch the whole gig and listen carefully his bassdrums, they are awesome. And his Drum fills are also good ;) \../
this is my favourite "fade to black " performance. Love the way Hetfield sings on it, but also the last minute, which is not in the original song is fucking awesome
The solo starts so sneakily and then builds and builds and towards the end its become the centerpiece of the song. Kirk's written some great parts. I don't see how more theory or technique would benefit this song, it's perfect as is.
You know whats even more amazing about this song? These guys were in their lower 20s and came up with this. Everything about it is just brilliant. I get that their are talented people in this world but what these guys did, even more than just on this song, is just amazing. Amazing. Even before they had some big producer.
I had a band time ago, and we played 5 songs from Ride the Lightening album alone. This is one of the best metal albums ever. Kids should be required to listen to this on school. No more wars, no more bombs, no more hate, just plain good freaking music.
this isnt about suicide this is about coming to an end after an epic journey i keep thinking to use in my school grad video but i know people will reject it when they hear it cause itsa about suicide but when that opening chord hits after the violin intro you just feel like its necessary cause it gives that feeling of the end of an epic journey
yes THIS is a gibson, but he has an ESP Eclipse, he played it two years ago when i saw them live almost all of his guitars are ESP, including his KH's, ESP Vintage strat, and ESP flying v
Probably my favorite live version of this one. I like many, but I keep coming back to this one. Cunning Stunts was a big part of my teenage years. Sidenote, has anyone ever found out who that chick is at 3:43? Does she know she has a cult following in these comment sections?
this video is a prime example of why jason was my favorite of all the bass players. u never saw cliff R.I.P or now see robert interact with the crowd like that....the guy had somethin that robert doesnt have...passion for the music
no matter how many billion years will pass till the earth comes to an end there is never gonna be a better song than this... its just simlpy impossible
Fade to black is simply the best song of humanity, I'm pleased that I was born in the correct age just to listen to this masterpiece. This song is beyond what a human can do. Fade to black friends \m/
I'll try to paraphrase you, so don't blame me it's your promotion :)
Indeed xx
Best live version of any song ever
This and one are so good love themall tho
Hands down my favorite version of James singing this.
john ryder Are you that psycho from New Mexico?
💯% agree
100 percent agree
Agree
And hammets playing.
So good this performance.
One of their best
Jason's intro makes the song that much better
***** Just like in Seattle 1989
Funny that you say that, listened to the entire concert last night. Very true
MrStef8799 safe to saw jasons solos were some of the finest bass solos
M
Mamama roos papapapa
Best live version of this amazing song
totally 1000% agree, the last solo especially was the best I've heard it sound, I always watch this performance of this song before I go play for what I need to aspire to, LONG LIVE KIRK the RIPPER HAMMETT!!!!!
You should check the Seattle 1989 version as well 👊🤘
*One* of the best, but not di BEST... _Moscow live version_ is unrepeatable.
Маркo Тодоровић Moscow one was shit. Hetfield sang out of key quite a few times. The metal hammer festival version is probably the best

3:44-3:48 That girl is so in love with Jason. And he's not singing to her, no, he's actually saying, "Hey, you and me, backstage, after the show. Be there."
20 years still wondering who that girl is! Gorgeous.
The 3:44 one? Looks like a young Angelina Jolie
same here
She wanted to make a metallibaby right there
Same here hahaha. And I had this on vhs
The first girl I ever loved.
Jesus christ Jason's bass sound is colossal.
Reece113 no it's the seatle 89 Version trust me
Reece Hammett amen
I really miss Jason! It breaks my Heart when i watch Videos with him and know that is the past.
Next to Seattle this is my favorite concert
THE SET LIST TOO IN THE 08' ROCK AM RING SHOW WAS GREAT
I personally think james' voice isn't at his best on this concert, but that's just my opinion
Next to Seattle u have all 90's live shows that are way better than this one.
Have u not seen the 1992 San Diego 3 hour concert?
Luís Borges he said "this is my favourite concert", not "this is the best concert"
James playing the solo rhythm riff with one hand while pumping the crowd gives me chills every time. This is one of their greatest performances of this song. The whole show is incredible.
If you listen carefully you can hear him butchering it a bit. Great to watch : so much gain on the setup
@@PaulDario821¹
The "simply nothing more to give" line is indescribable ... the way he sang it is like wow !
2:27 james shows some skilled voice control! really nice!
+albin bohman MMM! OMG I FUCKING LOVE WHEN HE DOES THAT!
It's there throughout the Load to St. Anger era.
God I was so drunk when I made that comment earlier
Yeah that is smooth af
Some people says Seattle 89,Moscow 91 or the other places. To me,this version still my favourite . That Jason intro...❤
I Just Can't Stop Listening To This Song
30 years and still awesome song
IDK if a les paul has ever sounded so good. Kirk's tuning is pure perfection
lars was at his peek of playing drums in this very period of the 90s. so creative with all the breaks and fill ins. amazingly loose and still hard kicking
And also near the last years of his prime time
One of my fav performances of "fade to black"..
and this was my first metalica dvd.. kick ass!!!
This was the best concert ever filmed I think ! Metallica Rocks .... this is my favorite song in the world !
Absolutely agree on both parts!
One day i will be 100 years old and still head banging with this legendary masterpiece 😎
Most epic outro ever.
Now I'm feeling allright again.
Thanks Metallica!
This live version is soooo kickass \m/
Specially the stuff they added on at the ending is amazing!
Kirks solo is so good his guitar tone is amazing in this version
Back before the fractals
IMO, BEST live performance of Fade ever and ever and ever.
BEST SONG EVER - PURE TALENT
This is the best live performance of fade to black ever!!!! James does some tricks with his voice that makes this song touching.....
2:26 - Holy shit that trill
I remember seeing them on 29-Jan-97 in Minneapolis, same day I got my driver's license. This sounds just as good as it did that night!!!! And see that shirt Jason's wearing?? I used to have that!!! I walked out of that show wearing a shirt that was ripped down the middle!!!!

Awsome song!
The intro solo by Kirk is just genius!!
Kirk's outro unbelievable the best solo I've ever heard played live and never even made a mistake once.. The best hands down.. love this clip
every time i watch them play this song these days i have to come back to this video to remember how good they used to be.
i miss this metallica
Same
Anyone else miss the ending they do on this?
The licks are sick!!!
Also James has more melody on some of the verse lines, its awesome!!!
One of the greatest music pieces ever, so many real emotions
Best live version of Fade to Black ever !!!
Lars performance in this song proves that he is infact a great drummer!! not today, but back then he was amazing.
He was great in 2003 the st anger era
+Christoffer Grahm HE isn't doing too bad right now he isn't as good as he was back in the day but he is still doing really good
+Christoffer Grahm really though! People talk shit about that album because of the sound of the drums, but the actual playing is phenomenal!
I know right
He’s still a great drummer in 2017.
Ok the beginning with the base solo is just mindblowing i never here such tones from a base and a perfect flow into the song
Cliff man.. I get that feeling about you're life when james Is sitting there playing the first intro.. Cliff is all I can think about at that moment.
This was one of Lars's best gig's he ever made. If you watch the whole gig and listen carefully his bassdrums, they are awesome. And his Drum fills are also good ;) \../
one of the greatest concert ever !!!!!!!!
this is my favourite "fade to black " performance. Love the way Hetfield sings on it, but also the last minute, which is not in the original song is fucking awesome
Best live ever for this song!
definitely one of the best performances and one of the best recordings too
The solo starts so sneakily and then builds and builds and towards the end its become the centerpiece of the song. Kirk's written some great parts. I don't see how more theory or technique would benefit this song, it's perfect as is.
That was the greatest guitar solo ive ever seen
californiadreamin7 Then you haven't seen much ;).
Just because of the way he says "give," at 2:27, this is the best performance of 'Fade to Black,' in my opinion.
2:27
You know whats even more amazing about this song? These guys were in their lower 20s and came up with this. Everything about it is just brilliant. I get that their are talented people in this world but what these guys did, even more than just on this song, is just amazing. Amazing. Even before they had some big producer.
That bass!!!!
One of the best live songs recorded
One of my favorite live version of fade to black
3:44 dat Metaligirl
That's a friend of mine, I was there with her the next night. Great Show!
GT8686 I agree :)
You do realize from that one simply clip hardcore metallica fans have been trying to find out who she is lol
@radiobrat78: What's her fb? ;P
@@radiobrat78 She's so lucky!
This is one of the best versions, but binge and purge (89) of this songs is epic
This may be their greatest performance of this song live
James' vocals on this is so fucking Amazing!
I love it when they slow down the intro it sounds way better.
James has the greatest voice ever between soft and hard ! i love the wau he sang the part " more to give" i love itttt crazy about it
I remember owning this on cassette… still the best song they played on the this show!
Fuck yes!! Best live version of fade to black ever! EVER!!!!!!!
what i love to see is...though he's probably played this song 2 million times or more...he still has fun and the band enjoys every second! epic
Where are you jason, I miss you 😢😢😢
Best fade to black live version ever..
I had a band time ago, and we played 5 songs from Ride the Lightening album alone. This is one of the best metal albums ever. Kids should be required to listen to this on school. No more wars, no more bombs, no more hate, just plain good freaking music.

I watched this DVD version in 2003. It was the girl that brought me time and time again to watch this version of Fade To Black. :)
Holy cow you have to go back 30 years to this to hear Lars keep good time.
Wow James sounds amazing!
James goodbye at 5:31 started the show and James, Kirk, Jason and Lars finished it epically
+Sphynx 1 that ending was all kirk
+californiadreamin7 kirk did a good job, but i doubt he would have gotten the same reaction from the crowd if he was up there all alone
I'm not a metallica fan but i am now what the fk took me so long
Hahaha lmfao really?
Stewart Sanders welcome
@Rob Kenny same, without metallica i wont be even listening to death metal and black metal now
so much passion in it
Probably my favorite live version of this one. I like many, but I keep coming back to this one. Cunning Stunts was a big part of my teenage years. Sidenote, has anyone ever found out who that chick is at 3:43? Does she know she has a cult following in these comment sections?
beautiful...just,beautiful
5:43 James to Kirk: "Go my dear horse, Go win the race and bring it home!!!"
This is the best fade to black I've heard so far? Anyone else agree and if you disagree show me another one.
I will forever remember this song as Jason's outro song...
True fans know. fade to black cunning stunts is the only way too listen to this banger.... right here
Amazing performance and best outro ever!!
this solo takes my breath away!!!!
Dude. I don't think ANY Concert could be better than Seattle 89. It was amazing. But this performance was still awesome.
The greatest live performance of any live song ever
first time i heard this show and this song, ive turn volumm max to heaerd drum, basss and guitar.so great
What to say about that?
The kind of song that we hardly will see be done again!
Perfect!
I got the impression that Cliff was in that halo!
Best performance of this song in my opinion and btw one of kirk's best guitar solo(s)! Love it!
Their last album should be called
Fade to Black
I agree with that
Best version ever!
lars amazing
love you metallica
this is the best concert and song !!
wow, that's a very passionate piece of singing from James.
this video is a prime example of why jason was my favorite of all the bass players. u never saw cliff R.I.P or now see robert interact with the crowd like that....the guy had somethin that robert doesnt have...passion for the music
