As a beginning table tennis player you need to know the basic service rules and how to do the pendulum serve. This serve must be the first serve you learn and will likely be the only serve you need because there are so many different variations of it. ohhh...all these days i was serving from behind the table. after watching your video i checked out the videos of pros...they all serving from the side of table . i will change my serve techniques . thanks mate
Anytime. You can stand on the side, but remember to contact the ball behind the end line to keep the service legal. It’s very important!

Very good explanation, easy to understand and clear. I love the recommendation to always serve fair. Another good way to serve no spin is simply hit near the handle where the knuckle of the Index finger is on the other side of the racket

@@TechnicalTableTennis I have a request... Possible for a video regarding how to return the various spin serve mention in this video? I always have problem with returning serve like reverse pendulum.. When i touch the ball with my blade it just bounced away instead going to my opponent table. Thanks.
It is a difficult serve to return because very few people do it. Next time you try to return the reverse pendulum aim for the middle of your opponents side of the table. It will increase your chances of returning onto the table.

Hi Gabriele. When I actually play a game, I stomp my foot to pivot and jump into my ready stance. They say that the stomp also masks the sound of the ball hitting the table. Experienced players can actually hear the difference between spins on the ball when it bounces on the table.

When you stomp your foot you transfer your wight from your body over to the serve, that helps with generating spin. And as Jin said with getting in position.
I really like the reverse pendulum serve Zhang jike used it a lot and it can be disguised easily with backspin and no spin and topspin or heavy side spin 👌🏓

I'm having difficulty serving the topspin. I always do the sidespin even though I'd like to do the top spin.
Hi Jerson. Try to contact the ball later in the pendulum motion, and or pull your elbow slightly up at the moment of contact with the ball to assert more topspin on it. Thank you for watching!!

How can one read no spin serve? It can be easily disguised as underspin serve (felt the same in your video)
High Ashis. There are a few characteristics of no spin. You have to watch your opponent’s paddle and where the ball contacts it. This serve can be disguised as almost any other serve. If they bump the ball instead of brushing it is likely no spin. If they look like they are brushing, but contact the face of the bat near the top of the handle (right by their thumb) this part moves slowly and asserts little to no spin on the ball. So be patient, and visually focus in on their bat and the ball at contact. Wait to move to the ball until precisely after you observed the kind of contact and the area of the bat face it hit. This ball does not kick forward like a topspin. It does not bend sideways like a sidespin, and it does not float and kick back like a backspin. You should be focusing on the ball to the point where you can see the amount of spin based on how blurry the label of the ball is.
I think the biggest hurdle for most people is rushing to receive. You should do the opposite and observe intensely the ball at contact, while moving to the ball observe the bounce and try to SEE the spin on the ball, and if it’s dead attack it.

Sorry.. Im the beginner. Wht is the different between top spin & side spin. The impact? Looks quite simillar..😅
It's the direction the paddle brushes across the back of the ball. Sidespin is from side to side. Topspin is upwards. Backspin is downwards.

When i try to do topspin it became sidespin instead. Very difficult.
try hitting more side of the ball by changing the angle to be a little steeper

The big problem with Table Tennis is the serve. It's easier to understand nuclear fusion than the rules of serve in Table Tennis. Virtually every serve can be deemed to be illegal one way or another. At club level competition, most umpires are too chicken to call a fault serve even when they know the serve is illegal. In Tennis, on the other hand, there's the foot fault which happens only rarely. It's apparent in Tennis to the casual observer why a huge serve or a well placed serve won the point. Not so in Table Tennis where the casual observer doesn't understand the deception aspect of a winning serve.
Great points and thanks for watching! There is so much gray area with service rules. I believe most of them were put in place to reduce the chance of someone imparting spin on the ball with anything other than the paddle itself. That said, many umpires don’t enforce them to the tee, but make sure that no one if blatantly violating them.
