I recommend saving before interacting with the tree. This won't cause it to be a different pokemon, however, on the chance that it is the pokemon you want, you can reset to change its IVs, Nature, Ability, and Gender. This is especially useful if it ends up being a male combee. You can reset it to get a female combee.
The underground sort of makes this obsolete. I got a female one first try by random chance
@@dreadknight2439 its not just with combee. Think of the tree exclusives (Heracross, Burmy, etc.) If you want a Heracross with Moxie but instead you get one with something else, you dont want to go for the 5% chance again. You can just reset.
I'm betting the same could be said for Burmy as well. especially if you want to get the Female version to get all three coats of Wormadam

I have to confess. I only just got to Flaoroma town last night and slathered the 3 trees there with honey just on the off chance. I got Heracross on my second tree right now as I was watching this video. Never have I been able to avoid a grind before, is this wat luck feels like?

Wurmple: 29.5%
Silcoon/Cascoon: 14%
Combee: 26%
Burmy: 13%
Cherubi: 9.5%
Aipom: 6.5%
Heracross: 1.5%

Finally started hunting for Heracross today and I randomly encountered a shiny Stunky while running through grass to get to a tree. Would’ve never gotten one had I not watched this video so I just wanted to say thank you and keep up the quality videos!
Should've come here earlier. My second tree at the windworks had a heracross and I was thinking about resetting for munchlax. Then I was like "nah, getting heracross is awesome, shouldn't risk it" and now I find out I could've shiny hunted it. xD Damn!
If you can, use the Masuda method for shiny heracross. Just much easier and less painful than soft resetting for a full odds shiny
@@TheMithrilGuy I tried this method on Alpha Saphire for weeks - day in and out - to get a shiny Larvesta - din't work once. I don't know if I was just unlucky but I don't trust in this method anymore since then.
I just got myself an Aipom. Only took me 3 trees. That was neat.

@@pascalschwerdtmann4397 I'm not sure if that's the case for Aipom (totally could be) but I doubt it because I got one at a really low level. Even if that is the case it's not like it takes very long to get there

The very first honey tree I did had a heracross in it. I will never be that lucky finding it again

Thank you for all these videos! I hated hunting for Pokémon via the Honey trees because I thought Honey was a rare resource, but this has saved me tons of time & endless frustration.
I may not have these games but it's always nice to see your tutorial videos and they'll be useful down the road.
Math nerd time! If Group B happens 30% of the time and Heracross happens 5% of those times, then Heracross has a 1.5% chance of showing up or a 98.5% chance that he doesn't show up. If your loop takes you around 20 trees then this means you have a 73.9% chance that you won't see it at all. This means you have a 26.1% chance that you see Heracross in at least one of your trees.
So while rare, because there are so many trees you effectively have a 1 in 4 chance of encountering him on any given day. It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect to see a Heracross in less than one workweek. (20 trees per day, 5 days in a workweek, for a total of 100 trees checked in that time, means you have a 78% chance of encountering it at least once during that week.)
Much better odds than finding a Shiny.
That’s only if you want him post game, some people wanna use him before the 2nd gym so odds on 5 trees before Eterna?
@@devonleavitt1771 With 1/4 the trees it would take you roughly 4 times as long. So to have the 1-day odds for 20 trees, you would need to spend 4 days at it. But waiting 4 days to fight a gym leader just so you can have a specific pokemon seems silly to me, so let's say you only spend 1 day at it and hope you get lucky otherwise you move on...
In that case, the odds are 7.3% that you'll get lucky and have it for that 2nd Gym.
What if I want a shiny heracross

Heracross has a 1.5% chance of being in all 21 trees, so per tree there is a 0.075% chance of running into one in a specific instance. That’s pretty good for Pokémon odds.
Shiny odds?
@@devonleavitt1771 better than, 1:1400 roughly, but that’s for 1/21 trees. If you honey all 21 trees your odds are 21:1400 which equates to 1.52% chance of you finding one per full circuit.
@@calebherring387 no, I did not. The 30% chance is per tree, and 5%of 30% is 1.5%. There are 21 trees. So 1.5% over 21 trees is 0.075% per circuit. If you honey all 21 trees, you have a 1.5% chance of getting heracross. If you skip a tree, the game still assigns a pokemon to that tree, it’s just inaccessible to the player. It still counts towards the whole circuit. The numbers work. I’ve done the math.
Chance of a Heracross in a tree: 30% x 5% = 1.5%
Chance of a Non-Heracross in a tree: 100% - 1.5% = 98.5%
Chance of No Heracross in 21 trees: (98.5%)"21 which is about 72.8%
Chance of at least 1 Heracross in 21 trees is 100% - 72.8% = 27.2%
OneLeg Hendo your way is wrong, the odds are per honey/tree not for all 21 trees
Caleb Herring your way is still wrong but a lot closer since if there were 67 trees you will be over 100%
All probability must add up to 1 or 100%, no more, no less out of all outcomes possible outcomes
Here another way
think of dice, what the odd of rolling at least one 6 in 3 rolls
if the 1st roll is a 6 it doesn't matter what we get in the other 2 rolls so that is 1/6 chance of this happen
if the 1st roll isn't a 6 but the 2nd roll is a 6, is 5/6 x 1/6 = 5/36
3rd roll: 25/216 = 5/6 x 5/6 x 1/6
So you will have at least one 6 after 3 rolls is 1/6 + 5/36 + 25/216 = 91/216 chance or 42.13%
or you can do (5/6)^3 for none of the 3 rolls were a 6 which is 125/216 and do 216/216 - 125/216 = 91/216 for the chance of at least one 6 within 3 rolls

It does not appear during a specific time of day. Also honey trees in bdsp are like the originals where you have to slather honey, then wait 6 real hours to encounter one pokemon

Man I haven’t made it past the beginning because I’m shiny hunting Chimchar, but man it feels like RTX is boosted up to 100 in the area where the guy sells you honey

I’m choosing not to stress over the trees for now, but I WILL be checking the ones along the routes where I plant berries. Whenever I want to focus on trees, this is the video I’ll reference.
The mechanics are exactly the same as the originals so you missed some stuff.
The 30% is actually 20%, there’s a 10% chance nothing appears, so double check after slathering.
The munchlax trees have the odds swapped, 70% group B and 20% group A.
Things I have found before heracross:
-4 female combees
-a SHINY
I have been doing the honey trees since the DAY THE GAME CAME OUT and still no heracross … I am going crazy
So story time. When the original Pokemon Pearl and Diamond games came out I was about 12. The honey trees were awesome to me so I put honey on them constantly. One time I actually got a shiny Munchlax at the honey tree in Floaroma Meadow. However, since I didn't know how rare it was, and it wasn't the best shiny in my opinion I RELEASED IT LIKE A FOOL! I kick myself to this day after finding out how badly I messed up.
I got heracross on one of my first trees(i was looking for wurmples for a living dex) lol
A 1.5% chance of getting a Heracross is insane. It's definitely worth it though

Thank you!!!! I decided to hunt for a Heracross because he’s my favorite bug and fighting type Pokémon since I was eight, and I never found one playing the original Diamond. It drove me nuts! Howeber, I got him on the first honey tree I encountered.
How do people get this lucky? I had to go through several cycles of honey trees, and at one point they stopped working for a few days (I think because I time-traveled for driftloon) before I then finally got heracross
My favorite Pokémon, I was hoping to use one early, now I have to catch one, trade it to home, restart and trade it in to use it early, still worth the effort.

4:42 you can reset for shinies and specific genders [burmy] from what I've seen since this isnt D/P/PLAT.
In SP I legit only need burmy for my Grass team but in BD I'm catching everything 😅

I think re-slathering a honey tree, when it is already slathered, re-randomizes the encounter, just like in the OGs iirc.
Also, if u re-slather a honey tree, immediately after an encounter, you'll have a chance to have the same group as u did last time.
Don't know if they changed those things in the remakes.
Also, when u slather a honey tree (in the OGs at least), you'll have a 9% chance of it just disappearing, so it's safe to check your trees twice; don't know if they changed it in the remakes either.

Question…if I manipulate the date/time on my Switch for other in-game purposes, would that lock me out of Honey Tree spawns for 24 hrs like it did in the originals? Or would it just despawn/reset my currently slathered trees?
There’s a time lock out in these games. I’d just avoid it until a time travel method is discovered
I manipulated my time by accident on day 1 and my trees have been the same since day 1. Im starting to think it permanently locks you out of them.

Hey Austin! Love your flood of vids every time a new game comes out. Could you do a difficulty comparison just wrt what you felt between bdsp and og diamond/pearl? I have heard both opinions that exp share is balanced well and that it is not balanced well. If it is not, then I would most probably try to modify the code to manually disable it before playing. I really dont wanna ruin my experience of the game that most pokemon fans think to be the no. 1. Thanks in advance!
the code is already out for that if that's what you want. but with Exp share Champion can still wipe you. look up the dump of he team's stats. All of the Elite 4 are competitive builds with coverage. I was NOT ready for that!

i managed to get a full odds shiny male combee before getting either a female combee or a heracross, after 8 rounds of trees over a week. it was torture.
Here I was hoping I could add heracross to my party the first time I got to route 205... sounds like it's gonna be a struggle lol
No word of lie, I watched this video yesterday having no idea about the honey trees and Heracross. Just got up to this area and put some honey on the tree outside the power plant before calling it a night. Woke up this morning to play and checked this one tree; boom Heracross. First try... I'm so pumped. Thanks for the tip Austin John, gonna keep Heracross in the team until I find Riolu.

I did one serious round of putting honey on trees and by the time I got around to the tree by Sunnyshore I got a heracross on that tree
Any plans on a Poffin guide, i looked it up but honestly, I prefer your guides over all others because I need to see the thing being done in front of me.
It’s funny he said so definitively that it won’t happen the first time… I got everything except Munchlax by the end of the first day with access to honey trees. Heracross was sitting pretty at the one at the top of Eterna Forest/Route 205 on the way to Eterna. But I’m Not gonna get a Munchlax from Underground until I finally get one from a honey tree to finally heal that part of my childhood
Also all of them were female so could immediately breed them all. Was some great finds
Is there a way to see Burmy other than the trees? He’s one of the last ones I need for my dex. I’d rather not have to wait 6 hours if there’s a quicker way to get him.

BD is my first Pokemon game, the first tree I checked was a Heracross… maybe that was a welcome gift?
i must have gotten so lucky, my first honey spawn was a heracross right away.
I think I broke the whole honey tree feature... I changed the time on the switch to switch to night in game to get a pkmn which encounter only at night... by that time I already slathered honey on a few trees... I changed the time back to "synch with internet" qnd now it's 24 hours after and no tree is shaking...
I got the message, that the trees are already slathered... and the option to re-slather them...
Anyone had the same problem and/ or know how to reset this issue?? :(
changing your time locks you out of time based events for 24 hours. so just wait itll fix itself but itll happen everytime you change the time so dont do that

For someone like me that only gets to play at night, the 6-8 hour wait for a honey tree Pokémon sucks. I went back last night after spreading honey on many trees the night before to not find any Pokémon
2nd tree i checked in flower town was heracross, then 2 trees later in valley windworks I got munchlax, now I have them for my play through :D wonder the odds on that.

What happens if you try to change your switch’s clock for this game?
I don't know if this is well known but if you're just looking to add the burmy to the pokedex without catching it and avoiding the honey trees. There's a trainer on Eterna Forest who has the burmy.

I had been dead set on using Wormadam for my team since they first announced the games. It took me two days to finally get one and I even used a second save file. I can finally continue playing the game 😅 (never saw a single Heracross either)
If you are just completing the national dex, there is a trainer with Burmy in Eterna Forest, so you can complete the dex without catching him this way!

I know the trees are predetermined, can we soft reset for gender or nature, like just need to get a female Combee since there’s the only one can evolve just to get a Vespiquen early in the game

Going to be working on getting the heracross, going to probably take awhile, changed my clock on the switch before I downloaded the games, I assume my clock will be frozen for a day or so. I'll settle with a Apiom if I'm not getting it, been placing honey everywhere I have been going (played for 6 hours so far)

No one knows sadly as Pokémon Home is compatible sometime in 2022 and there was no official information given about it yet:(
I only played Platinum and once upon a time there was a calculator which could tell you which trees Munchlax could spawn in. I got it and Heracross no problem. Feebas was a pain, but you know what genuinly truly sucked ass, Spiritomb. The Global system was offline by the time I played which ment that Spiritomb was forever unreachable. That was the last generation I have an incomplete dex, and it makes me silently weep.
