Volvo 740 Brake System Rebuild and How To Bleed (By Yourself)

In this video, I replace the booster, master cylinder and hoses. I also make everything look nice and make some brackets for the rear end to accommodate the lift kit.

For what it's worth, I believe the 740 turbodiesel could be had with the M46 manual in at least '83 maybe '84. I know I've seen 2 or 3 of them over the years. I don't think there's anything different about it from the gas M46 other than the bellhousing.

The original engine, VW D24. I think a different example of the same engine anyway

Yup, original D24T and ZF22 slushbox. The engine will be spiced up slightly.

I need to replace the master cylinder in my 88 740t, but need to find some stuff to bench bleed it...namely the little blue plastic/nylon nuts with nipple you have. I'm normally good at finding anything I need online, but I can't find these for the life of me. I have a mityvac that I've used for years, but it didn't come with any of those fittings and I'd really like to do what you showed. So, where can I find these little blue things, and what the heck are they called? Thanks!

Yeah, I still haven't found anywhere that you can buy them individually. Have had to get plugs from Napa in the past though. I also like to save the b-nuts in a small length of Hardline if I'm getting rid of a parts car.

@@bakedbeansgarage116 Those parts worked perfectly! Installed the NOS master cylinder, then swapped all four rubber hoses with braided stainless lines. I cleaned up and painted all four calipers (gold), and when I was done bleeding the lines, realized the rear calipers were trash. So, ordered new rears and waited again. Also replaced the booster as I think the diaphragm was not functioning properly. Got all my parts, degreased and painted the rear calipers before installing them. Managed to get the old booster off and installed the new one without disconnecting any brake lines. Getting the pin through the brake pedal arm was the worst part of the entire process. Ugh. Anyway, the car now has almost an entirely new braking system, except for the hard lines and the master cylinder reservoir. New rotors and pads all around, new rear calipers, fronts were replaced last year, new braided lines, new master cylinder and new booster. The only old part are the rigid lines that run from the master cylinder to the wheel wells.
Did a test drive after bleeding the lines and holy cow, feels like a new car! The brakes always felt a little underpowered and woody, and now it feels like most new sedans, but with a little more brake lever range of motion. Bench bleeding certainly saved me some time!
