>4chan story about a kid who's parents divorced when they watched the Angela Anaconda short for the Digimon Movie That's a new one. Please, tell me more.
I loved Angela Anaconda and had no idea anyone hated it .__. it was one of those kids shows that treated kids as little adults learning about life rather than plain stupid or twee. I also was one of the only non-religious kids in a very religious school growing up, who was treated unfairly by teachers because of this (and the fact I came from a poorer background and very young parents, when most of the kids in my school were wealthy middle-class) I related SO MUCH to Angela.
I always loved Angela Anaconda and PepperAnn. I loved seeing other types of girls featured. I should have known there was a queer creative force at their core. :) I grew up knowing feeling out of place. I knew I wasn’t interested in boys (or boy crazy) like the usual girl media images depicted. I didn’t have a close group of female friends. I wasn’t interested in fashion or makeup. I later came to understand that I’m queer... that I wasn’t broken for not romantically liking boys or feeling uncomfortable in a dress. Even though they weren’t gay characters, these shows portrayed variety and difference. There are lots of ways to be you, and that’s okay. I’m glad that’s a message I had as a young person through media like this. I will certainly check out the TH-cam interview - thanks for highlighting that! I haven’t gone through too much of your content yet, so you may have already covered Home Movies. If not, you would probably really like this animated series. :)
FINALLY some praise for Angela Anaconda! I ADORED this show growing up but everyone on the internet was always hating on it, and I just couldn't see why!
Me too! I loved the show as a kid, I didn't know anyone who watched it, and I was surprised about the hatred! I mean, lokking back as an adult I can see that the style is a bit weird, but I never minded as a kid. It was part of the appeal for me! It was one of the only things I saw as a kid with such an unique style of animation.
One time when I went camping as a child, the people in the campsite next to us had kids. They had a young daughter that would scream and cry until they put on the Angela Anaconda theme song, which to me was very strange as the show hadn't been on the air in some time. This was also during a time where mp3s weren't as popular, which means one of the parents had to burn the theme song onto a CD-R and keep it with them at all times.
I loved Angela Anaconda as a kid!! I love the contrived way they spoke and the creative style and the underdog cheeky main character and the tomboyishness she implied by hating the posh and the feminine. And the way they always used people's full names 😂 I had no idea people hated this show, it played every afternoon on ABC in Australia
I thought that Angela wanted to spend the night at Johnny's house cuz he had racecar beds...but the bunk beds made it twice as more realistic of a kid's adamant reasoning.
I remember loving the show as a child. Then when people on the internet started to throw shade on it I was confused. I haven´t seen the show on almost two decades, but even the digimon sketch I thought was a pleasant surprise.
when i was little, my big brother told me that the show stole the faces of the children who watched it so i had to be careful. then he sat on me and forced me to watch it while i was terrified to lose my face. siblings are the best lol
I remember as a kid hating this show, and then one day it clicked for me and I loved it. It's super artistic and smart, and the sort of feelings it leaves you with are maybe a bit more complex than a kid can handle. It's a very ironic show where the narrator isn't entirely reliable or infallible.
Angela Anaconda actually gave me so much serotonin. I saw a clip on tiktok and I had to look up videos about it. I loved how weird she was and this literally unlocked a whole memory.
"I love Bob and hot chocolate" brought back a distant childhood memory I didn't know I had. 😂 I completely forgot about this show but I think I liked it.
Honestly, I am so glad someone remembers this show in a fond way. Because I used to remember really liking this show because it looked so different and it was easy to watch. (In terms of content lol) So, thank you for not needlessly shitting on this show like everyone seemed too. 😌
Thank you for making this. It is one of my all time favorite shows, and I've literally NEVER heard a good thing about it from anybody else who remembers.
I read a romance novel where the male protagonist has a dog named buster But, it's a girl My aunt has a dog named pudding Which is a girl, but looks very masculine
This video impacted me weirdly, literally got teary eyed watching it. Maybe it was from a swift whack of nostalgia but thank you so much for putting the time and effort into making it! Super appreciated! P.S. I loved this show, i dunno why it gets/got so much hate
Probably Mr Enter, who did an Animated Atrocity on it , talked about an episode and didn’t really offer any good criticism of the show and just rehashed it’s ugly and acted like there was nothing good and the show was utter trash. Mr enter is a truly toxic content creator and his fans just take whatever he’s saying as fact even though he can’t do a proper review on anything and just says what everyone else says without personal opinion
I totally never thought of Angela Anaconda outside of that one Digimon short but now I'm totally regretting it. Joanna Ferrone seems like such a cool person, I think I'd really like to check it out now.
Angela Anaconda was one of my favourite shows as a kid, it aired a lot here in Australia. I used to get it's name mixed up with Angelina Ballerina which was one of my other favourite shows. 😂
Australian TV always picks out those weird Canadian cartoons. When I was young I assumed it was all American, but now I know we have Canada to thank for this 🥲
I cannot stress this enough - I loved Angela Anaconda when I was a kid. Absolutely lurrrrrved that show. The art style, the weird character quirks, the almost pointless story-lines... it was like someone took all these crazy, "bad-on-paper" ideas, put them into one show, and somehow made magic. To this day I'm actually kinda shocked when people tell me they don't like it.
Honestly, this show gives me big "Making Fiends" energy, which was another show that came later. Haven't verified, but it definitely sounds like there's a large overlap of voice talent here. If there's not, the general direction definitely took some ques I think.
I love this show. Angela felt like a genderswapped version of myself. I learned English more by reading and watching movies rather than conversing with people, and I got made fun of for that when I immigrated. Angela spoke that way! And she looked like me too! I love the sense of humor. One of the smallest dissapointments in my adult life is that my wife dislikes the character. I am both a digimon and Angela anaconda fan and I have to say that short in the digimon movie is an affront to both cartoons and I do not blame anyone for getting the wrong impression.
I can certainly say, having this as my favorite show growing up influenced me greatly. I did always get picked on for being myself and certainly wasn't afraid to be exceptionally strange. It also influenced my vocabulary quite a lot but this show really was and still is important to me.
My name is Angela - this show first aired when I was in elementary school, imagine how many times I got called Angela Anaconda 🙃. I never watched a single episode because I was so annoyed by it 😂
Finally a positive review about this show!!! I WAS OBSESSED WITH IT AS A KID... I have a very blurry memory of it but your video made me want to re-watch it as an adult!!!
I have been in love with this cartoon since its debute on Fox Family. Angela Anaconda's writing is brilliant, hilarious & the art style is so unique & wacky. Watching reuploaded episodes on TH-cam in recent years has given me a new appreciation for it.
Angela Anaconda was one of my favourite show growing up and I'm so surprised to hear that people didn't like it. What? Did you guys not have a sense of humour growing up, damn.

i loved the heck out of this show since I was literally angela growing up, straight gingery hair, freckles, tomboy, ridiculous revenge fantasies for all that stood in my way, etc. this show is a gem
This show was honestly pretty funny to me! I mean as a kid I just literally watched whatever was on TV. I should also mention that in grade school. They played an angela anaconda halloween song 😶
I remember reading the book versions of some of these episodes in elementary school, and I loved them. The show worked surprisingly worked in a book format!
What a nostalgia hit! I loved this show! I even had the book "Families and How to Survive Them". My favourite episode was the one where Angela was getting teased for not wearing the right colour but then it turned out that she was wearing a reversible jacket. Anyone else remember that one?
I remember watching this show when I was a kid! I think the weird design of it is what got me into watching it, I just found it fascinating lol. Looking at her design now, I wonder if the creators of Fran Bow took design inspiration from this show, particularly Angela since she looks really similar to Fran Bow.
Bro, I felt like I was the only human on this planet that LOVED this show. As a kid my siblings and I just adored it, and we couldn't help but lose it over Angela's fantasies about her nemesis. Rewatching it again, it's just all the funnier, and I can even appreciate how hilariously odd it just is. Also, as someone who also went to a catholic school, that Catholic girl hit home in a way it shouldn't have.
This show shaped my childhood!!! I was so comforted to see a normal tomboy-ish girl with flaws and her gang of outcasts going through everyday life. Was so wonderful to relate to a character on tv for once.
Same, whoever hates on it because it looks ugly is just a shallow asshole and wasn't gonna get it anyway. Shame for the show, I thought the introspective look of this crazy girl was brilliant.
When I was a kid...OMG I LOOOOVVVEEEDDDDDD this show. Hearing you say people dont like it makes me sad. Im so glad you covered this tho, I totally forgot about this absolute gem of a show!
I was so happy when I saw this video title pop up in TH-cam recommendations! Finally some respect for Angela Anaconda! I really liked this show as a kid, I think I was attracted to the distinctive artstyle and, like... out of all the animated girl characters I grew up on, Angela is probably the one I most wanted to be like. Her confident lovable-jerk petty-but-justified-because-her-rival-is-just-as-petty tomboyish thing was really appealing to me. I was really suprised and disappointed when I started hearing people around my age saying nothing but negative things about that show, and making memes about how awful it is, at least now I realize that it's mostly based on one very-ill-thought-of short in front of the Digimon Movie. Angela Anaconda's sort of mundane surrealism kinda reminds me of Pete and Pete or Ed, Edd & Eddy. Where it's like... it's depicting childhood not as it really happens, but how it FEELS like when you're a kid. It's like someone telling you their partly-remembered partly-imagined stories of childhood misadventure, and the storybook like dialouge and the black-and-white faces really contribute to it. Also, man, "Angela Anaconda is semi-autobiographical about the childhood of a queer woman" is NOT the revelation I *expected* to come from this video but that's pretty awesome and makes a LOT of sense.
When I was little this was one of my favorite shows. I actually remember being excited when I saw those characters at the beginning of the Digimon movie. I specifically remember watching it super super early before going to school when I was in elementary school.
I liked this show as a kid. I remember seeing a "making of" commercial of it on Fox Kids and being amazed by the technology behind it, so I never had any trouble with the artstyle (ironically, seeing the kids with real skin colors feels weird). I'm glad to see people giving the show a chance, it's nowhere near as bad as some make it out to be (although I can how the Digimon movie short could leave such a terrible first impression).
You changed my mind on this show. I saw it when I was young and didn't like it but the writing and characters maybe were just too smart for me back then.
The only thing I hate about this show is that the theme song still gets stuck in my head all these years later. Seriously, I was really surprised to find out as an adult that people hated Angela Anaconda! I remember being really into the weird and unique animation style as a kid, and I watched a lot of it. Thanks for covering it!
10:47 "Well some of the slapstick is great, particularly listening to Nanette Manoire yell in pain." I know I shouldn't like her yells, but god dammit the VA is doing an amazing job there.
Great video and review! It's awesome to see someone actually taking a fair look at the show and realize its positive aspect instead of just bashing it like so many other reviewers. I personally loved the show as a kid.
I personally never had a problem with Angela Anaconda as a show, the art style was different, the characters despite being over the top stereotypes where still relatable, and it was interesting to see how Angela's wacky revenge fantasies compared to the actual final outcome of the conflict. That, and Angela Anaconda, despite it flaws, is still better than the Cramp Twins, that show I can't stand at all.

@@Manbarrican The one I remember the most is the one where Sabrina and Harvey are running around a museum trying to catch these kids they were babysitting. Good times lol
I loved that as a kid, and I just recently re-watched it on TH-cam. Still fairly enjoyable as an adult
One of the best witch cartoons ever!!!
That was a very sweet sentiment at the end. It spoke a lot to me when she said she was greatful to have the opportunity to act like herself rather than be forced into a image expected of her.
Honestly this hit the hardest out of all the pride month videos I watched this year.
I never understood the hate for this show. I used to watch this as a kid and thought it was funny af. It never creeped me out. I even know the intro by heart.
I hate this show like how I hate the cats movie.
@@RiseUpToYourAbility explain
I never got it either, I just thought the show was alright.
@@liothelion8737 Have you heard of the uncanny valley? We can emotionally relate to things that are either clearly human or very unclearly human (like simba from the lion king) However there is this weird middle ground where the characters are human but not quite. Cats falls in this category and so does Angela. The face is completely human but the rest of the body is a cartoon.
@@RiseUpToYourAbility Its weird, because I have that problem with Cats, and a lot of similar cases, like the Christmas Carol of 2009 and The Polar Express, but not with this show 🤷♀️

This show's artstyle freaked me out so much as a kid that I'd get literal panic attacks when it came on TV
10 out of 10
Lol same!
Lmao same I got traumatized and literally ran to my room!!! 💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣
the art style triggered my fight or flight - my throat would get tight and i would feel like it was hard to breathe. 😰 really unsettled me.
the art style reminds me of dead body reconstruction sketches, so i easily understand why everyone feared this show as a kid
I only remember it from that 4chan story about a kid whose parents divorced when they watched the Angela Anaconda short for the Digimon movie.
Also imagine a reboot that interpreted the grey skins as having the show take on a 1930’s cartoon artstyle.
>4chan story about a kid who's parents divorced when they watched the Angela Anaconda short for the Digimon Movie
That's a new one. Please, tell me more.
@@Idunno-b8g it's literally in the video

I personally enjoyed the show as a kid when it appeared.
I never knew it was hated till four years ago on Tumblr.
This hatred dumbfounded me.
It makes sense if you think about it. The show was about loving yourself for who you are, and everyone on Tumblr hates themselves.
It was just too off-putting as a kid and on a television program full of anime.
yeah I liked it at the time
I never knew people like it. I didn't find out until a few weeks ago.
The love for the show dumbfounded me
i loved this show. i"ll never forget accidentally recording over one of my dad's episodes of star trek with this show. it's fine, i hid the tape.
God I hope your dad find out just because I want to watch his face
welcome to another episode of "Series i thought were a weird dream i had once"
It's been a while since I last saw that image you have as your profile picture.
It was probably a mix of both
HAHAAHH i thought because she liked him xD
I remember loving the show as a child. Then when people on the internet started to throw shade on it I was confused. I haven´t seen the show on almost two decades, but even the digimon sketch I thought was a pleasant surprise.
Me too!! It was literally my favourite show I was genuinely shocked to find out people hated it
Yeah, I enjoyed the show when it aired, & never understood where the haters were coming from. Unelss they're just hatin' on Nanette Manoir.
when i was little, my big brother told me that the show stole the faces of the children who watched it so i had to be careful. then he sat on me and forced me to watch it while i was terrified to lose my face. siblings are the best lol
I remember as a kid hating this show, and then one day it clicked for me and I loved it. It's super artistic and smart, and the sort of feelings it leaves you with are maybe a bit more complex than a kid can handle. It's a very ironic show where the narrator isn't entirely reliable or infallible.
Dude, it’s not that Deep
Angela Anaconda actually gave me so much serotonin. I saw a clip on tiktok and I had to look up videos about it. I loved how weird she was and this literally unlocked a whole memory.

And it caused a divorce

Me: why was this show so weird!
Billian: it was made in Canada.

I loved how angela had a dog that wore a bandana and was called “king” but actually was a girl dog
And Nanette's dog was a girly-looking poodle named Ooh La La but it was a male.
I read a romance novel where the male protagonist has a dog named buster
But, it's a girl
My aunt has a dog named pudding
Which is a girl, but looks very masculine
I loved the show as a kid and my friends thought it was funny.
I've always liked this show, i don't know why it was so disliked.
Also, Nanette was such a Karen i swear.
It wouldn't surprise me if her real name was Karen.

I totally never thought of Angela Anaconda outside of that one Digimon short but now I'm totally regretting it. Joanna Ferrone seems like such a cool person, I think I'd really like to check it out now.
I didn't either but I found a youtube collection of every Angela Anaconda episode & watched them. Loved it!
Angela Anaconda was one of my favourite shows as a kid, it aired a lot here in Australia. I used to get it's name mixed up with Angelina Ballerina which was one of my other favourite shows. 😂
Would it make you life if I told you the creator/VA for Angela played a character in Totally Spies named...Angelina? XD
Australian TV always picks out those weird Canadian cartoons. When I was young I assumed it was all American, but now I know we have Canada to thank for this 🥲
YOU JUST REMINDED ME OF ANGELINA BALLERINA
Yeah, I kinda see that
So apparently that show was made by one of the episode directors of Bojack Horseman.
I see Flint the Time Detective and just appreciate that I'm not the only one who remembers it.
Finally, some one who actually gave the show a fair chance! used to like the show a lot when I was a kid, could really relate to Angela's character

I have been in love with this cartoon since its debute on Fox Family. Angela Anaconda's writing is brilliant, hilarious & the art style is so unique & wacky. Watching reuploaded episodes on TH-cam in recent years has given me a new appreciation for it.

i loved the heck out of this show since I was literally angela growing up, straight gingery hair, freckles, tomboy, ridiculous revenge fantasies for all that stood in my way, etc. this show is a gem
This show was honestly pretty funny to me! I mean as a kid I just literally watched whatever was on TV. I should also mention that in grade school. They played an angela anaconda halloween song 😶
Sis Im already 20 and it's stupid how much I laugh watching that again
I remember reading the book versions of some of these episodes in elementary school, and I loved them. The show worked surprisingly worked in a book format!
What a nostalgia hit! I loved this show! I even had the book "Families and How to Survive Them". My favourite episode was the one where Angela was getting teased for not wearing the right colour but then it turned out that she was wearing a reversible jacket. Anyone else remember that one?
"It was weird, over hated, and under rated!" He will tell me.
I have been waiting YEARS for someone to make a video on this show. The time has finally come. Thank you billiam
I remember watching this show when I was a kid! I think the weird design of it is what got me into watching it, I just found it fascinating lol. Looking at her design now, I wonder if the creators of Fran Bow took design inspiration from this show, particularly Angela since she looks really similar to Fran Bow.
you know what these faces remind me of? missing people drawings.
Now you've said it I see it too!
I will never forget Angela Anaconda on account of that being impossible. I loved it too much.
THANK YOU! Everyone memes on this show cuz its uglier than sin and the whole digimon thing, but as a canadian I loved this show on Teletoon.

When i was like 5 i thought this was canon in digimon
This show was iconic. I literally sing the intro like once a week.
When I was little this was one of my favorite shows. I actually remember being excited when I saw those characters at the beginning of the Digimon movie. I specifically remember watching it super super early before going to school when I was in elementary school.
I Used To Love The Show Back In The Day,But I Really Never Liked The Whole Thing They Did With Digimon.>_
I loved this show as a kid. I actually had a teacher who compared me to Angela in looks and imagination and that stuck with me forever.

"Well some of the slapstick is great, particularly listening to Nanette Manoire yell in pain."
I know I shouldn't like her yells, but god dammit the VA is doing an amazing job there.
Great video and review! It's awesome to see someone actually taking a fair look at the show and realize its positive aspect instead of just bashing it like so many other reviewers. I personally loved the show as a kid.
This was always my “nothing else was on” show lmao
This show's art style absolutely disgusted me as a child haha
I personally never had a problem with Angela Anaconda as a show, the art style was different, the characters despite being over the top stereotypes where still relatable, and it was interesting to see how Angela's wacky revenge fantasies compared to the actual final outcome of the conflict.
That, and Angela Anaconda, despite it flaws, is still better than the Cramp Twins, that show I can't stand at all.
