Your husband sharing his genuine love for you in a modest but genuine way is so wonderful for the world to see. We need to display pure godly marriages more and more to model this to the world that desperately needs to see God's original intent. Blessings to you! Yes, I too love to learn and want to share this with my children and granddaughters! Thank you for sharing.

I had the decision made for me on homeschooling my daughter. We were driving in the car and I looked in the back seat at my daughter sitting in her car seat with the big ole thick phone book opened up. She had her little finger sliding along the names, addresses and numbers just like she was reading them. With her 4 year old brain, she was telling me she was ready for some structured learning. The public school system told me she was too young to start school. We started school at the kitchen table within a month. Best thing for my daughter that could have been done. Loved it.

We've had a heavy garden-planting day and busy-ness with our kids and grandkids in that garden through the day. (The Lord blessed us with 6 children, and 7 grands at the moment.). By the time I got to sit down this evening I wasn't feeling all that tired, then I spotted your home schooling video and all of a sudden felt VERY tired. Ha! I homeschooled for like 25 years, did all the garden and "canning" (Still do.) , the church-related things of life , etc. so I know what BUSY looks like. Lord bless and strengthen you as you live this busy, special life that you do. I love it, and like we experience, I know you will see the Lord's blessing in your family as you keep Him central in your hearts.

I was a public school teacher and saw how in kindergarten & 1st grade kids were so excited and loved learning. By 5th grade it mostly been squashed out. I taught mostly 5th graders and so many would tell me they wish they were homeschooled.

Thank you for sharing what you use for curriculum! We are just over 1 year into homesteading and going into year 5 of homeschooling. Finding the right curriculum can be such a headache- I’ve found that there is a lot of ‘Filler’ and fluff out there. We share the same values as your family so I am excited to try these! It sounds exactly like what I have been trying to find. I appreciate your channel so very much- May God’s peace be with you❤️

We used Rod and Staff in the beginning with my older two. It wasn't my fav, so we grew and adapted and I am super eclectic now, picking curriculum from all different companies for each kid. {We do history and some other things together}. I also used Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons. SO grateful to live in Idaho with lax laws. My oldest 2 started out in the public school system, my youngest 2 have never gone. Need I even say which 2 absolutely love learning? My 15 yr old daughter just walked in and said you sound like Ironman, Josh! hahaha.

  • @randymess7665
    @randymess7665 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Just out of curiosity, what are the homeschooling laws like in Idaho? I’m in CA, where they are quite lax as well. We file a private school affidavit, establishing our home as a private school. Our “requirements” are to take attendance and teach core subjects, but the how/why/what/when are left completely up to us. Freedom!! We commit to following the laws, but we generally follow a child lead model of education. And it’s a blast!! For high school, we are expected to teach certain subjects for a certain number of years (English 4 years, etc), but we issue our own diplomas and transcripts. No testing required. YES, our children are prepared for college if they so choose, and YES, colleges accept our homeschool issued diplomas. Some colleges offer big scholarships to homeschoolers!

We use the same curricula! Spunky the Donkey is so loved here, then straight into the StudyTime arithmetic until 6th grade. Also CTGE through 6th grade. We do Pathways all the way to 8th grade! It's all so cost effective, no fluff AND extremely solid.

I grew up on a farm so I understand you very much. I miss the homemade butter and milks. My Dad had 4 milk cows and we each had one to milk. We also had an old fashion Separator, so we had skim milk for the cats and whole milk and cream for breakfast. We have a place here in Kuna this is Vogel Farms and that is where we shop to get the real cream and Raw milk. Love it.

My kids were not home-schooled but I freelanced so I could shuffle my time to be with them when they needed help. I have always been an avid reader and forever trying and researching something new and both my kids have the same hunger for reading and learning. Our biggest problem is not enough bookshelves :) Teaching independence is super important as I have too many friends with children hovering around at home, with no skills, ambition or interest. Mine are both graduated ( an architect and computer program developer) and live independently and both always researching other interests apart from what they work on. So they have a full time job and do all sorts of other things part time. I encourage that as it keeps their minds open to new things all the time. Maybe because I am an entrepreneur, they are not scared to do the same and I see both of them ending up working for themselves.

I agree with you in theory of homeschooling, love of learning and the ability to know how to learn. The moving them to independent learning. My question is how do you fit it in schooling with all the tasks of homesteading, there are so many 'this is what has to be done today' and I end up doing them during 'school' time.

We have used LifePacs on our homestead, because they teach the nature of the creator in every subject, and also independence. You have more kids than I do, but I know it's been helpful having 4.

At 16:00 -- Homeschooling, at least in some form, is legal in all 50 states in the USA. However, the laws vary greatly from state to state. If you're in it for the long haul, it may be worth it to move to a "low regulation" state, such as Idaho, Missouri, or New Jersey (yes, New Jersey!).

I can not thank you enough for your suggestion of using Mennonite/Amish curriculum. We have flirted, attempted, quite, and flirted some more with the idea of homeschooling our ferril bunch, but I just couldn't figure out how to go about it. I honestly felt like unschooling was about the only option due to nothing fitting our homestead lifestyle, or was too religious heavy. We are also relocating from Texas to Mexico where unfortunately, my brother in laws (same age as our oldest) have already quite school, and my oldest son (14) horrifically struggles in school. We as parents, feel overwhelmed with the struggle we face with our son who'll also, most likely, want to quite school as well. Hes not stupid, hes just not a book worm, so using this curriculum where they usually sign off after 8th grade anyway is a god sent idea for us. It comforts me to know that the schooling he is going to receive will be in line with what so many other children acheive before they integrate into their communities as young adults. Thank you, thank you for this idea. It's honestly such an obvious answer that I can't believe that it hadn't occured me before. I just ordered all the material for his 8th grade year.

Life itself is an education........if you listen !!!! You never quit learning !! A suggestion also if/when you rebreed your jersey cow breed her to a small angus, what you get is a calf that is a great beef supplier, more meat than a jersey and your cow is then producing the milk you want. You will get more meat off the dairy/beef cross than just the straight jersey !!!

One useful trick for teaching kids to read is what we call "Ice Cream Flash Cards". Every day the kids go through a set amount of sight words and that's how they earn their daily ice cream. Our eldest has moved on to math flash cards and much larger words now that she is older. The kids end up begging to do their flash cards.

I loved school. But I always knew that there was more to be learned than what they were teaching us. I loved being at home with my Aunt and I'm sure she could have taught me so much more had she felt called to homeschool me.

I loved this video. Thank you for sharing the info with us. Would love to know more. Can you possibly advise on which states are particularly strict about homeschooling regulations? Sorry for the many questions but we don't currently live in the USA, although my husband works there. We're planning on immigrating and we're hoping to start a homestead of our own and I would love to be able to home-school. Thank you for your amazing channel, it's so informative and your upbeat shining personalities are so refreshing.

Hi there! You know, each state is different and can have wildly different laws from another. The HSLDA is a good place to start when researching homeschool laws by state. They give a pretty broad overview of each state regarding parental freedom. The next step after that is researching a specific state laws from the Board of Education for that state.

Hey, question for you? How do you guys afford healthcare for your family? We moved last Aug to 10 acre farm here in ND. My husband used to farm and raise hogs w his Dad till college, then his Dad just started renting out land and help combine vs do it all as he got older. Now my husband wants to start homesteading (not go back into farming), and possibly do homeschooling (having bullying issues at school, my middle child has Autism). I used to work as a nurse, now home w the 3 kids 5, 7, and 13. My husband still drives 35 min into town, and does the 8-5, good wage and good benefits. Our only concern is medical, and being sustainable financially due to a few of us requiring more intensive care off/on. I as a nurse have always done things naturally first (know quite a bit) before going in to the Dr. However my husband has had a couple heart attacks before 40 (bad genes), and therapies etc for my son, and myself. We want so badly to Homestead FT, but pre existing conditions would be difficult as far as health insurance. What as been your experience? Thanks in advance.

We generally avoid this topic because every time we bring it up we just have to deal with criticism. So many people think that homeschooling families have to justified or prove themselves in some way. As if our children are being neglected and not being "socialized" as if they are some feral animal and have no outside experience in the world. Some channels talk about homeschooling freely, but others seem to only get attacked. I suppose it's all about the community following you.

Sad how good people try to stay within the laws (which are almost certainly unjust) when the gov't is not only corrupt, and has been for decades, but also criminal and no more than pirates. Having said that, I can understand that it's often best to avoid trouble by living in better areas as far as school go etc.

Erin C. I had the same problem when I wanted to make one of my grandmother’s recipes. I just make the soups from scratch when I have that problem. You just need butter, flour, cream or milk, broth, and whatever meat or vegetable the type of soup requires.
