Also products warning people not to inhale the product when using. Who the hell is inhaling when spraying anything on their face. Well Ive watched some makeup tutorials on YT where the person takes a breathe as they are spraying a product on their face. WTF? I have the opposite reaction hold my breathe until done spraying and turn away or move away from where I sprayed something before I breathe. Perhaps thats my art school/artist background and you use spray fix on drawings and spray adhesives and are taught to hold your breathe until you are done and out of the area. Hell spray Evian Mist which is just canned water and it can sting your eyes because if the fine mist and it will make you cough like hell if you inhale the fine mist. Cause most everything is an irritant to the eyes or breathing passages.

denatured alcohol isnt THAT terrible for skin since it evaporates quickly. the best and cheapest setting spray i use everyday is the elf mist and set one. no alcohol, lots of polymers and humectants.

Shadé Palmer There is a difference between spraying something ON your eye lids than spraying something IN your eyeballs. Nothing is safe to go in your eyeballs, but many products can go around your eye area. Huda does not recommend spraying it on your face because it’s not safe for around your eyes. I’m sure many other setting sprays say the same thing thing but they aren’t composed of mostly rubbing alcohol. This spray is just so hardcore that people shouldn’t be tricked into putting it on their face everyday when they don’t need to

Close your eyes (as you always should when spraying anything near your face) and purse your lips (again, as you should). It's just a more expensive version of the Ben Nye setting spray. It's meant to hold everything in. I have that one and it also hurts the crap out of my eyes if I don't wait until it dries around that area. You can spray it on and around the eyes, just wait for it to dry. Honestly, this is just a way for them to protect themselves from stupid lawsuits by people who would stare straight down the nozzle and spray their face. If you want a matte, super long lasting look, this is for you. If you don't want that/can't wait the 10-20 seconds for the alcohol to evaporate before opening your eyes, then this isn't for you. However, it's not unsafe for the skin. If it were, people would be suing everyone who made rubbing alcohol already. I don't even own the product or like Huda, but this fake outrage is dumb, when she clearly marketed it as a product that you should only use if you want your makeup to last in all conditions for a LOOOOONG time.

Like you said about the crazy stinging pain, that’s a sign it’s not safe for the delicate skin around your eyes!! I know Gerard Cosmetics setting spray has a high alcohol content too, that doesn’t mean that and Ben Nye’s is safe. Huda beauty is a multi million dollar brand, the brand reaches wayyyyyy further than Ben Nye and Gerard, so many people will be buying this just for her name on the can versus buying the hard core Ben Nye specifically if they need the extra hold. I think many people(myself included) just wish that she had come out with a gentler one as well as the boss face bc she knows any Huda fan will buy this and either use it everyday and damage their skin, or they’d buy it use it once and leave a bad review
I used Hairspray to set my makeup for my sisters wedding. My makeup lasted form 7:30 am to 1:00am the next day. I’d never use it to set my makeup with it again unless I know I’d need my makeup to last that length again

Wooooah! The shadows really hold on well - But I don’t get it.. If you can’t use it on the eyes 😅 That would be what I would’ve used it for. And I feel like they should’ve showed it on foundation or something else than eyeshadows, now it isnt eye safe. Too bad, would’ve been nice with my wet eyes!

I use hairspray if I am going to an event that isn’t climate controlled ( outside or someplace that I’ll be working and sweating) or that I know is really long day. It was a trick I picked up while working in theater. It does the trick but I have to make sure I spend extra time removing my makeup at the end of the day and doing a face mask or something to rehydrate. I have never had luck with setting sprays keeping me from slipping around in those instances like I have with hairspray.
Octobervengeance the struggle is real! I’m oily and it takes a lot of keep everything in place! I have some pretty red skin and some scarring so I don’t really feel comfortable going without makeup. Maybe someday!

When I use Green Marble spray I wear an old pair of sunglasses & press my lips together to avoid those areas. The alcohol content stings, but it really holds up well.

Isopropyl alcohol can be used to remove paint from the skin. And not just craft paints, also the kind of paint that is applied to outdoor heavy machinery (like tractors etc.)
Honestly even with other setting sprays I always cringe watching beauty gurus spray it all over their face while they're talking, like GIRL - don't ingest/inhale it! But still, I don't get how a face spray can be approved to market if it's not eye/lip safe.
I doubt it actually is unsafe, I guess they just put it on there for legal things. Rather safe than sorry, just in case someone sprays it directly into their eyes/mouth and tries to sue Huda. And Trust me, that would be a thing :D there is a reason, why coffee cups warn the consumer of its hot content :D

I just wondered because this kind of label usually comes with products that use ingredients which are not approved for localized use (you know, how some pigments aren't FDA approved as safe for eyes even though they come in eyeshadow format)? I just don't get why you wouldn't want your product to be 100% safe for use (within reason of course - not spraying directly on the eyes haha)
When they say “eye / lip” it’s not actually unsafe for the skin of the lips of the mouth or eyes but the risk it poses for ingestion or getting in the eye. So getting on your lips isn’t bad but licking your lips or ingesting it is “dangerous”, but getting a little in the mouth won’t hurt us.
adenineful that is the thing, some ingredients are not FDA approved even though they are absolutely fine to use (such as some pigments that are considered unsafe for eye use and therefore are not allowed to be labeled as eyeshadows, even though they are perfectly fine). Some of these ingredients for example are allowed in the EU, which has much stricter (and modern lol) regulations. Jen luvs reviews has talked about this in depth in I think her James Charles Palette Review or her review of Manny Muas „Life’s a drag“ palette.
Back in the day, before setting sprays were a thing, the hair spray of choice was actually Aquanet. It use to come in a bottle but today’s’ aversion is a purple can with a white lid (super extra hold, I scented).
I learned how to do stage makeup from my older sisters drama class before I learned how to do Day to day makeup. You bet I used hairspray. I still do for special occasions.
Model in a Bottle is definitely hairspray!! It’s been used for years, especially for wedding makeup. I think it’s been around for like 15 years, I have it. It feels exactly like you are spraying hairspray on your face, but it works better than any other setting spray I’ve tried. I only use it for special, special occasions, I would never use it daily. Waaaaaay too much alcohol.....
Exactly! It’s not like regular setting sprays aren’t full of alcohol always. I’ve looked at the ingredients, they’re not all that different, depending on the product.
I tested it in Sephora when it came out and this stuff works. I purchased it and only have used it once because it’s a special occasion spray, not everyday with that alcohol. It stinks and I can smell it for an hour after spraying. I would like a scent free version.

This is the kind of content I signed up for! Anyone who needs a setting spray for longevity, just use skindanavia. Or if you want a budget option, try Ben Nye Final Seal. It will dry your face out but the make up won't budge.
Hair spray is old school- it’s what we used to set makeup in the 70’s & 80’s and its what was used by Hollyweird and fashion for that purpose during that time. It’s also used by crime scene investigators to seal off footprints before making a plaster cast of them. And yes, I’ve personally used it for both things, but never used it on my hair!
This made me laugh... when I was younger my mom did my makeup at horse shows. She not only sprayed my hair until it was cement but she used hairspray on my face to hold my makeup in place. It worked in the nasty heat and humidity of our summer circuit!!
Not applying directly onto eyes and lips refers to when people use setting spray to wet the brush, like the too faced hangover spray, it has so many chemicals in it that it will react badly with your sensitive skin (such as eyelids or lips)
A better product if you are wanting extreme hold is Blue or Green Marble spray. I use it for prosthetics and special effects makeup on film. Drag queens also use it as they are a more skin appropriate product than hairspray. Especially the blue marble, which is a water based setting spray and doesn’t feather the makeup when you spray it. Green marble is still alcohol based for that more intense hold but I feel like I’d trust it more than huda
@@bentlyluv1211 I'm only slightly better than trash at eyeshadow, so it takes forever unless I can just do a one-shade wash of colour. It's the hardest darn thing to have stay put too, especially with hooded lids!

I remember when urban decay first came out they didn't have an eyeshadow primer or setting sprays, and their shadows were good, I think that these company's decided to start making their makeup cheaply so you'd be forced to spend more money on other things, just to make it last.

Holy hell, though. Is it possible for ANY setting spray to actually increase wear time and transfer resistance, without the use of denatured and/or isopropyl alcohol? Using fatty alcohols (eg: cetyl / stearyl alcohol, or cetearyl alcohol) would be good for your skin, but I can't see it increasing wear time... Hrm. Would be nice to know for sure, though! Also, I definitely like the finish of the hairspray more, but I am NOT a matte-lover. I only really like matte shadows in or above the crease (but not a necessity), matte blushes, and matte lip products.
I've been using hairspray to set things for a long time now and I have to say that it really holds thing up, ITS NOT FOR EVERYDAY USE, you'll breakout the next day probably but if you like to cosplay of something with colourful skin tone really holds aquacolours and I tested for pride that I had a Bi flag on my beard and it's really usefull and cheap
I wouldn't use hairspray or huda as they both have plastics in them to hold down the makeup. If I'm wrong please correct, but copolymer is a pretty common term for plastic in ingredient lists.
Polymers and copolymers are a huge class of materials it doesn't necessarily mean they're bad for the skin or the environment. Hyaluronic acid, cellulose, collagen are all polymers for example. Those in shampoos hairsprays and that thing (lol), usually acrylate copolymers are water soluble so they just dissolve when you wash your hair/face. PVP is also a water soluble polymer that's included in the Ingredients list.
Someone did this same test but huda vs morphe setting mist and they were more or less the same result. Morphe setting mist is eye and lip safe though and you don't suffocate on fragrance also less than half the price and doesn't drench your face

Guilty of the hairspray trick. I remember reading it as a makeup artist tip for catwalk in a magazine when I was a kid. It’s not good for me, I know... but it work better than any other products I have tried and it’s cheap! 🤷🏻♀️

It sounds like it's very similar to pro stage make-up products but it costs a lot more, if you're looking for a product that does this for less look for the Ben Nye or Kryolan versions to save your pocket and use only infrequently to get you through big events.
I'd like to see someone do this test with foundation. I don't have a problem with my eyeshadow moving or coming off, I have a problem with my foundation lasting.
I use hair spray for big events for my makeup. Keeps my eyebrows nice and my makeup snatched. I just use a great hydrating primer and moisturizer when I remove my makeup. Works great never noticed any skin problems and I have very sensitive skin
I've been testing this for over a month with no problems. I just keep my eyes closed tight until it dries, which just takes a few seconds, and tuck my lips in. i also don't depress the nozzle all the way, I do a bunch of small micro pumps across the sections of my face. The can doesn't say use with a sponge only, it says "spray in circular motions around the face avoiding eyes and lips. Huda's favorite way to use is to spray it on a sponge and dab on the face." I bought it to use for my wedding at the end of this month as I'm super oily and it has worked great for me so far. I'll switch back to something else after as i don't need something this hard core all the time and save it for special occasions.
as a dancer I still use hairspray to set my makeup on performance nights as I have not found anything that holds as well but I definitely do not use it everyday
Mehron make a product called "Makeup Barrier Spray" that smells like pure gasoline, but *really* works well. I'd be curious to compare ingredients with the Huda. Great video 👌
Wow. I've been using hairspray to set my makeup for a few weeks (I know I know, it's not good for my skin but YOLO). I spray my beauty blender and press it into my base. Works like a charm.

If you gonna spray alcohol anyways: water + alcohol (and a good moisturizer beneath)... Here in Argentina is now the setting spray thing, a couple of years ago wasn't... so I got 3/4 water + 1/4 alcohol (or 2/3 water + 1/3 alcohol if you want a bit more alcohol in it) mixed... but not everyday...

u shouldn't spray so close from ur arm cus its liquid befor it turn to dry base! and almost all sitting spray says nit to use it directly on eyes and lips but u can use eye shadow brush very fast and put it on eye lid before dryers then shadows

I don’t have Huda’s product, but I have the UD’s spray and I totally agree with you and only use it occasionally.

I use hairspray if I am going to an event that isn’t climate controlled ( outside or someplace that I’ll be working and sweating) or that I know is really long day. It was a trick I picked up while working in theater. It does the trick but I have to make sure I spend extra time removing my makeup at the end of the day and doing a face mask or something to rehydrate.
I have never had luck with setting sprays keeping me from slipping around in those instances like I have with hairspray.

Octobervengeance the struggle is real! I’m oily and it takes a lot of keep everything in place! I have some pretty red skin and some scarring so I don’t really feel comfortable going without makeup. Maybe someday!

When I use Green Marble spray I wear an old pair of sunglasses & press my lips together to avoid those areas. The alcohol content stings, but it really holds up well.

I think you guys are taking this WAAAYYYYY too literally. All it means is don't spray directly into the eyes (or mouth). Almost every type of spray or even powdered product has that warning, usually written as "not safe for internal use" which just means, don't taste it and don't spray it into your eyes.

Isopropyl alcohol can be used to remove paint from the skin. And not just craft paints, also the kind of paint that is applied to outdoor heavy machinery (like tractors etc.)
Honestly even with other setting sprays I always cringe watching beauty gurus spray it all over their face while they're talking, like GIRL - don't ingest/inhale it! But still, I don't get how a face spray can be approved to market if it's not eye/lip safe.
I doubt it actually is unsafe, I guess they just put it on there for legal things. Rather safe than sorry, just in case someone sprays it directly into their eyes/mouth and tries to sue Huda. And Trust me, that would be a thing :D there is a reason, why coffee cups warn the consumer of its hot content :D

I just wondered because this kind of label usually comes with products that use ingredients which are not approved for localized use (you know, how some pigments aren't FDA approved as safe for eyes even though they come in eyeshadow format)? When they say “eye / lip” it’s not actually unsafe for the skin of the lips of the mouth or eyes but the risk it poses for ingestion or getting in the eye. So getting on your lips isn’t bad but licking your lips or ingesting it is “dangerous”, but getting a little in the mouth won’t hurt us.
adenineful that is the thing, some ingredients are not FDA approved even though they are absolutely fine to use (such as some pigments that are considered unsafe for eye use and therefore are not allowed to be labeled as eyeshadows, even though they are perfectly fine). Some of these ingredients for example are allowed in the EU, which has much stricter (and modern lol) regulations. Jen luvs reviews has talked about this in depth in I think her James Charles Palette Review or her review of Manny Muas „Life’s a drag“ palette.

Back in the day, before setting sprays were a thing, the hair spray of choice was actually Aquanet. It use to come in a bottle but today’s’ aversion is a purple can with a white lid (super extra hold, I scented).

Model in a Bottle is definitely hairspray!! It’s been used for years, especially for wedding makeup. I think it’s been around for like 15 years, I have it. It feels exactly like you are spraying hairspray on your face, but it works better than any other setting spray I’ve tried. I only use it for special, special occasions, I would never use it daily. Waaaaaay too much alcohol.....

I tested it in Sephora when it came out and this stuff works. I purchased it and only have used it once because it’s a special occasion spray, not everyday with that alcohol. It stinks and I can smell it for an hour after spraying. I would like a scent free version.

Hair spray is old school- it’s what we used to set makeup in the 70’s & 80’s and its what was used by Hollyweird and fashion for that purpose during that time. It’s also used by crime scene investigators to seal off footprints before making a plaster cast of them. And yes, I’ve personally used it for both things, but never used it on my hair!

This made me laugh... when I was younger my mom did my makeup at horse shows. She not only sprayed my hair until it was cement but she used hairspray on my face to hold my makeup in place. It worked in the nasty heat and humidity of our summer circuit!!

Not applying directly onto eyes and lips refers to when people use setting spray to wet the brush, like the too faced hangover spray, it has so many chemicals in it that it will react badly with your sensitive skin (such as eyelids or lips)
A better product if you are wanting extreme hold is Blue or Green Marble spray. I use it for prosthetics and special effects makeup on film. Drag queens also use it as they are a more skin appropriate product than hairspray. Especially the blue marble, which is a water based setting spray and doesn’t feather the makeup when you spray it. Green marble is still alcohol based for that more intense hold but I feel like I’d trust it more than huda

I remember when urban decay first came out they didn't have an eyeshadow primer or setting sprays, and their shadows were good, I think that these company's decided to start making their makeup cheaply so you'd be forced to spend more money on other things, just to make it last.

Holy hell, though. Is it possible for ANY setting spray to actually increase wear time and transfer resistance, without the use of denatured and/or isopropyl alcohol? Using fatty alcohols (eg: cetyl / stearyl alcohol, or cetearyl alcohol) would be good for your skin, but I can't see it increasing wear time... Hrm. Would be nice to know for sure, though!
Also, I definitely like the finish of the hairspray more, but I am NOT a matte-lover. I only really like matte shadows in or above the crease (but not a necessity), matte blushes, and matte lip products.
I've been using hairspray to set things for a long time now and I have to say that it really holds thing up, ITS NOT FOR EVERYDAY USE, you'll breakout the next day probably but if you like to cosplay of something with colourful skin tone really holds aquacolours and I tested for pride that I had a Bi flag on my beard and it's really usefull and cheap

I wouldn't use hairspray or huda as they both have plastics in them to hold down the makeup. If I'm wrong please correct, but copolymer is a pretty common term for plastic in ingredient lists.
Polymers and copolymers are a huge class of materials it doesn't necessarily mean they're bad for the skin or the environment. Hyaluronic acid, cellulose, collagen are all polymers for example. Those in shampoos hairsprays and that thing (lol), usually acrylate copolymers are water soluble so they just dissolve when you wash your hair/face. PVP is also a water soluble polymer that's included in the Ingredients list.
This was great! I would never use the shit, but I'm glad it does well. I used to use hairspray for show choir and theatre, lets not talk about that.
Someone did this same test but huda vs morphe setting mist and they were more or less the same result. Morphe setting mist is eye and lip safe though and you don't suffocate on fragrance also less than half the price and doesn't drench your face

It sounds like it's very similar to pro stage make-up products but it costs a lot more, if you're looking for a product that does this for less look for the Ben Nye or Kryolan versions to save your pocket and use only infrequently to get you through big events.
I'd like to see someone do this test with foundation. I don't have a problem with my eyeshadow moving or coming off, I have a problem with my foundation lasting.

I use hair spray for big events for my makeup. Keeps my eyebrows nice and my makeup snatched. I just use a great hydrating primer and moisturizer when I remove my makeup. Works great never noticed any skin problems and I have very sensitive skin
I've been testing this for over a month with no problems. I just keep my eyes closed tight until it dries, which just takes a few seconds, and tuck my lips in. i also don't depress the nozzle all the way, I do a bunch of small micro pumps across the sections of my face. The can doesn't say use with a sponge only, it says "spray in circular motions around the face avoiding eyes and lips. Huda's favorite way to use is to spray it on a sponge and dab on the face." I bought it to use for my wedding at the end of this month as I'm super oily and it has worked great for me so far. I'll switch back to something else after as i don't need something this hard core all the time and save it for special occasions.

as a dancer I still use hairspray to set my makeup on performance nights as I have not found anything that holds as well but I definitely do not use it everyday

If you gonna spray alcohol anyways: water + alcohol (and a good moisturizer beneath)... Here in Argentina is now the setting spray thing, a couple of years ago wasn't... so I got 3/4 water + 1/4 alcohol (or 2/3 water + 1/3 alcohol if you want a bit more alcohol in it) mixed... but not everyday...

u shouldn't spray so close from ur arm cus its liquid befor it turn to dry base! and almost all sitting spray says nit to use it directly on eyes and lips but u can use eye shadow brush very fast and put it on eye lid before dryers then shadows

Denatured alcohol is fine for your skin, not too sure about the isopropyl though

I think they mean you should spray it in a zigzag over your face. So not directly on your eyes but the product will still reach your eyes.

Would you consider (after quarantine is over) a Nip n Fab makeup breakup? The have items in bottles, tubs, airless pumps, roller balls, tubes. Etc, so it could be a little series like the ordinary?
