      To be fair, Enterprise has plot armor and Shinzon was trying to take Picard alive. NPC's dying to prove how powerful the bad guy is while not threatening the actual heroes is a classic trope. The Valdore class were a bit light on defenses in comparison to the Sovereign class, though - they were more aggressive ships, probably filling the role of interceptor, I would guess. Shinzon also may have had a better idea where to hit them since I assume his team had access to basically all Romulan ship building data while making his doom ship.

Certain parts were definitely stupid. Data flying across space and being so well placed to find a unlocked door on the Schimitar. Yeah I would be certain there is a way to destroy the ship without computer controlled self destruction. Like shoot the warp core? Throw a grenade at the core? Simply turn off or disconnect the magnetic containment field? Don't get me started on how easy it is to overthrow the Romulan Star Empire. Then the "clone" of Picard.... • @Freddie1980
      @Freddie1980 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Sovereign01

    • @DayneTreader

Without that reaction, there is only the fusion reactors' power generation, which is probably an order of magnitude less than the warp core's.

    I don't see the hate of this movie. I liked it. I didn't like that Data had to die, but I totally understand the reason why he had to. If you really want to know, Data was more human than he could have ever been. He sacrificed himself, for his fellow friends, and crew so that they would live on. I'm pretty sure Data would go on in memory, and truly never be forgotten.

    • @meiray
      @meiray ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The script and pacing. Data dying isn't my issue, but it's surrounded by tired Trek tropes and half-baked ideas. Shinzon is played with verve but poorly fleshed out on paper - those scenes with Picard should sizzle, but they are all so very flat. The Romulan characters are dull as dirt. B-4 as an idea is not up to snuff. The dialogue has no zing to it. Troi's mind rape and payback is just a rehash of things the franchise did before. The space battle is exciting at times but also derivative of The Undiscovered Country, full of technobabble and shield percentage warnings, and the kamikaze run is somewhat non-sensical. The budget is stretched to its limits in many places. What little humor there is feels forced. The Remans are style over substance. The villainous plot to destroy Earth is not interesting.
      It's always nice to see the cast together, but this just felt tired and the action often was very tacked on, and the only thing the director and John Logan were really into. Logan in particular is just not a good fit for genre fare. You look at his resumé and all the really great work is not his sci-fi, horror or fantasy. He's a big fan of TNG, but he couldn't come up with a really fun story.
      Contrast that with how Picard Season 3 is shaping up and it's just night and day how much better the show is approaching a cast reunion versus Nemesis.
      IMO of course.

    I went to see Nemesis opening day at the old Magic Johnson Theaters at the Baldwin Hills Plaza, I've seen the movie countless times since, and I have NEVER understood why is it hated so much.
    I think it is because, at the time, is was supposed to be their final send off. As a finale to the TNG saga it was bad, and an entry in the TNG saga, as it stands today in Feb. of 2023, it is very strong and compelling story.

      A lot of things made no sense in service of the plot. Among them; no escort ship to accompany the Enterprise-E into enemy space, B4 was never mentioned or even hinted at in TNG, the retconning of Picard having no hair during his time as a cadet, and how was it that Shinzon was able to get such a beast of a ship to be constructed in secret?

      Yes and the Romulans, although known to build tactically dominant ships, have a long history of building inefficient and glitchy propulsion systems. Having a ship that can travel a Prometheus speeds would constitute a quantum leap in propulsion technology for a civilization who, in short years past, had to sacrifice ships just to keep up with a Galaxy class ship.
      All this, while being built by slave labor in some secret base near a mine.

      @@A407RACStarfleet and the romulans detected a organic living, sentient space ship near a star about to go nova. Starfleet sent the enterprise-D while the romulans sent to D’deridex class ships. The romulans sent two because the first ship’s job was to slow the enterprise down but in order to keep up with the enterprise they practically melted their warp nacelle coils. It was a one way trip but they disabled the enterprise long enough for the 2nd ship to catch up to them and retrieve the ship’s crew and what else could be retrieved.

    This looked great! Though admittedly some of the quick edits during certain scenes were a little bit annoying, quite a few of them were cut oddly. Some of the special effects also looked a little weird, particularly the smaller sparks and some of the weapons fire though I think this was more an artifact of the upscaling and perhaps speeding up the fps
