Humans are overfishing the oceans, causing the sharks to get more and more aggressive. The human and the shark hunting in the same place at the same time.
A big thing is the increase in people feeding them. All these tourist places have shark feeding dives or "shows" or just dumping leftovers off docks or boats. Sharks have already shown to be been shown to be conditioned just like dogs or other animals to associate certain things with food so if they have received food from a being in a swimsuit or dive suit a number of times they may get used to a waving hand in the water meaning food and go for it even if there is no treat.
Absolutely, I agree, these shark feeding shows encourage sharks to associate people with food at the same time no reason to fear us either. This kind of learning doesn't require anything like the intelligenceof dog! Paramecia, single celled animals, respond the same way.
The infamous Sharm al Sheikh attacks on Russian tourists seem connected to this kind of idiotic (human) behavior.
As a biologist, I can tell you that sharks will eat anything they can. Just like any other hungry wild predator. People like project emotion onto wild animals. They also like to say that “we’re the problem” I’m a attempt to trick your mind into thinking humans control the situation.

I recommend viewers compare how caring scientists approach sharks in their habitat and how beach goers approach sharks…the difference is respect for the natural world and its unique intelligence. The ocean is not a swimming pool, its a complex ecosystem.
I dont have to worry about it in the Bahamas. There's enough sharks off the coast here in Australia 😂

Theres always factors why it happen.. just being in the water is the first Factor 50/50 chance I’ll say.. then then feeding turtles puts it up to 80/20 I believe.. if not higher

Agree and I think it also matters that locals are not on vacation so they're working or going about their business. People on vacation are recreating in the water.... Makes sense that they would be bitten more often.
If a shark comes into shore it’s normally looking for food. It swimming around close means it’s sizing up its feed.. if eatable or not.. the fact they were feeding Turtles puts the chances up, of being bitten if a Shark is Present

In 2018 a high school friend of mine lost his daughter to a few tiger sharks off Rose Island in the Bahamas.....terrible tragedy.

That is a wonderful way to remember her. I'm sure the whole family miss her terribly. I felt terrible for Kami and what she witnessed with poor Jordan.

I love the "at the end of the day, it's a wild animal, not your buddy" message, because while I love Hawaii's @OceanRamseySharks lady, a marine biologist and conservationist, and her effort to make the public not see the shark as a perpetual bloodthirsty bad guy (to quell further unnecessary killing of an already in troubled species in their dwindling numbers, as they are actually important to the ecosystem of the oceans), I worry she overdoes it and makes it seem like sharks are sweet and fluffy bunnies that shouldn't be feared in their habitats. That's not right either. The animal should be respected for the wild animal it is.
Im a super bad swimmer but still do snorkeling and diving. While diving i gave up ….Im not confident in the waters anymore.

Usually, attacks are cases of mistaken identity that humans taste as good as a nice piece of a rare to medium steak
I have seen this behavior from certain species of fish in lakes, streams, rivers, and ponds my whole life.
What were the conditions you would see this in? Like have you see it year round or was there an event that they did this behavior during? Also do you recall what a couple of those fish are? I’d be curious to read more into that… in my free time 😂
So common denominator is humans being humans and doing things to attract hungry sharks 🙄 spearfishing is a big risk and hand feeding other marine animals is going to attract other non-target hungry critters. Glad everyone survived the encounter - sharks included.
They must find out what created the response they experienced from the shark. Did the shark feel threatened by the proximity of the diver to the wounded prey or the fact he was where the shark predominately feeds and it was territorial? They should be able to simulate both scenarios.

I have ZERO edu re: Marine Life, but... Could the difference between seeing the colors of his hoody from underneath (P.O.V. of the shark) VS were he simply standing in shollower water (like the woman that was bit in the calf)? Or perhaps the direction of which the sun light was coming from could be worth pondering? I have issues with sun direction in regards to my vision, so that was my first thought. Thank God the shark sanctuary is there. All over the world sharks are being killed for their fins. The shark is caught, pulled aboard, the fins hacked off, the fish is kicked off the boat to die.

When camping you are told not to feed the wild animals what makes people think the ocean is any different.
If chose to step into waters with sharks in it, shouldn’t I be aware?
If sharks wanted to eat humans they would do so but since they just bite and left that only means the humans were in the wrong place in the wrong time. and explaining that took 44 minutes lol
