Went swimming at ocean isle beach one year and something bumped into my leg. I was up to my neck in the water couldn’t feel the bottom and whatever it was felt solid. Later that day there was a huge shark spotted in that exact area and I just haven’t felt the urge to get back into the ocean since then 🤣

I was in thigh high water and splashing to attract dolphins that were off in the distance. A shark circled me and breached right along side of me. I snapped a picture and got the fin. I never ever went back into the ocean. I thought I was safe in such shallow water.

Because sharks don't actively hunt or like Humans. Its usually murky water and/or mistaken identity. Hence, why most attacks are bite and release and not consumptions. If they wanted to eat us, they know where we hang out.

To avoid being attacked by sharks, don’t go to the beach at dawn or get out of the water by evening, these are the time when sharks prey on fish. Surfing is tempting at these time period so surf at your own risk.

When I was on a vacation in Egypt we always went snorkeling when the sun was coming out and then once in the afternoon and we came out of the water when it was already getting dark. The lifeguard always screamed at everyone to get out. I've spent like 4 hours snorkeling every day and never encountered a shark anyway, you should avoid swimming or surfing at that time but even of you don't the chance of you encountering a shark is still very low. I can guarantee that it didn't feel so safe when it was almost dark and the lifeguard was screaming at people to get out and I was still a kinda far from shore hah. I've seen a turtle with a pretty big shark bite on its shell but that's it. Murky water is what makes it the most dangerous in my opinion, the shark goes out to hunt but barely sees anything. I doubt a tiger shark would attack me just because I'm snorkeling at the time when the shark hunts, they're usually just curious.

@@xtherealestWhat? Sharks have tremendous eyesight and sensors.
The whole mistaken identity attack is largely nonsense. An alpha predator with amazing sensors doesn't usually make mistakes.
Most attacks are territorial. They don't want you there.
It's made up BS about mistaken identity so people don't blame the shark.
Because the majority of humans are low IQ, they need to be lied to.
Sharks, just like lions, tigers, bears etc are just doing what they do. No need to hate an animal.

A lot of shark attacks happen mid-morning, midday, and afternoon and close to shore.
I have never believed the dawn/dusk murky water narrative. They will attack whenever the opportunity presents, and the time of day doesn't matter to the shark.

I was out fishing with my dad, deep sea fishing, and I was sitting on the bow dangling my feet in the water with a drop line between my legs. Unknown to me my dad had been hanging the catch over the side.
I am enjoying myself and I hear my dad yell for me to get my feet out of the water there are sharks I look down and there is a big ole shark right there. if he had bitten he would have got me believe me I moved as fast as I could.
I wish I knew what kind it was he was probably 6 or 7 ft with what I refer to as a Mackrel-colored back. It scared me. They actually had a feeding frenzy on the fish it was wild and very scary.

It is my experience that the best time for people to go swimming, surfing or partake in any other type of water sport is in the early morning or at dusk. Also, you do not want to swim in gin clear water and it’s preferable that there is limited visibility, and try to create as much “splashing” and erratic movement as possible. Sharks aren't monsters, they're portrayed like every shark that sees a human attacks immediately, when in reality sharks are around us way more often than we know because we only ever hear about the attacks. We don't hear about the thousands of times every year that sharks swim around humans and never make contact. We only ever hear about the attacks, which are mostly one bite attacks, which are curiosity bites. Sharks don't have good sight, so they feel things with their mouths. Humans aren't sharks normal prey though, we are WAY too bony. They usually only bite us when they think we are an injured sea animal, probably a seal or turtle. They don't see us as prey when they fully see us, they're just very curious creatures who have a disgustingly horrible reputation because of totally inaccurate portrayals in media. It's really sad, I wish more people would take the time to learn about sharks and see them for the beautiful animals they are❤ I hope you watching videos has helped any fear you had of sharks, since usually fear is from the unknown. I was super scared of sharks before I started watching a couple shark behavioral specialists, and now that fear morphed into respect and love❤

That was stupid, but not because of sharks. You can easily get caught up in a current and pulled out far fairly quickly. When in the ocean, you need to stay no further than you are able to swim from the shore. You could also easily fall off a raft and they're difficult to climb back onto in water you can't stand up in, that is moving and may have waves. And if you're 8n a current when you fall off, you may get pulled out or under before anyone notices. Have fun but use good sense, be safe and be careful.

The rivers often have brown water and that just makes it harder for the bull shark to see and it can mistake someone for it's prey. But if you're close to shore and you get bitten it's going to be just fine. It's going to hurt like crazy but with a couple stitches you'll be okay, the problem comes in when you're not that close to shore and have to swim back. Bull sharks are agressive and once they start the attack they probably won't stop until you get out of the water. Be careful, it's a 1 in a milion chance you'll get attacked but the chance is always there

Only at certain places, there's places where sharks used to be and they're fished out. But indeed in some places it will only increase and tbh it's good, if people are afraid of sharks then don't swim in their waters, it's their territory, sharks are very important for the ecosystem, the more sharks the better for the wildlife.

Historically, swimming has been considered something people do only when totally necessary to avoid drowning. It wasn't until the 20th century that people began to swim for pleasure.
Fishing, on the other hand, has always been a popular activity.

They tell us sharks are perfect machines. Then out of the other side of their mouths they basically tell us that sharks are too inept and their senses FAIL, which leads to sharks not having keen enough senses to tell the difference between a SEAL AND A HUMAN!!! Its absolutely ridiculous! Seals are part of sharks regular prey. They KNOW what a seal looks, smells, moves like……..and they simply are NOT confusing humans with their regular prey! To be honest, this has been an agenda for decades designed to help all the tourist/vacation resorts when there are attacks. When an attack happens, then one of these experts gets paraded out onto the news to tell us that poor dumb shark thought the person was a seal 🙄🙄 …….it’s a narrative that is to keep these vacation spots from losing revenue. I understand that millions of people enjoy swimming and playing in the ocean. I did it as a kid myself. But when you actually put this into perspective.
You are risking your life, not just from sharks, but also barracuda, Portuguese Manowar, ( which I have been stung by on several occasions as a child. But thankfully I'm not allergic to it's venom. ) , and thanks to the saltwater aquarium hobbyists. There are Lion fish, stone fish, ( no antidote and you will die an excruciating death within minutes of a sting.), box jellyfish, sea snakes, and several other animals. All just to enjoy a recreational activity.
And as climate change worsens. And the coastal waters heat up. Species like the deadly Box Jellyfish can migrate to new areas and Marine Biologist have determined that the warmer temperatures are causing an increase in shark attacks on humans.
So the worst is yet to come. If you check out the drone shark footage you will see just how many sharks are sharing the water with swimmers and surfers. There are going to be a lot more dead children because people are inherently stupid and ignorant.

Don’t let anyone tell you that sharks don’t eat people. Once you enter the water, you become part of the food chain and you are no longer at the top. Most shark attacks are NOT mistaken identity. Sharks have hundreds of millions of years to perfect their hunting and their sensory organs. They can differentiate between the pulses we put off in the water (which would be unusual to them) and pulses that fish or other prey may put off. There have been so many attacks where witnesses say that the shark swam right past them or several other people and targeted someone else. They are extremely intelligent, more than some give them credit for. I’ve been studying attacks now for a few years and you would be surprised. Again, sharks eat people. Imagine if you had tried to catch a meal for weeks. And you missed every time or it got away. Seals get away from great whites about 50% of the time. Then they see a human. A slow moving, lanky thing on the surface of the water creating electric pulses in the water with movement and heart beat…they know it would be a sure thing. They’re going to go for it. I personally believe that very few shark attacks are mistaken identity.
