Any issues with the aftermarket valve cover? Have the same corrosion on my 2018. Just bought it and it threw a misfire code found the gunk and broken coil trying to get to the plugs
@SuburbanRedneckGarage appreciate it. I'm going to order the same one cover, I have exactly the same problem with mine including the broken ring the coil sits on
@@aaronb.6597 some long needle nose pliers are how I got the broken coil pack out. What a pain though. Glad the video is available to help people! If you have any questions when doing it just respond and I’ll do my best to help
@SuburbanRedneckGarage thankfully I got the broken coil out without issue. Cover gaskets and seals next. Transmission fluid change in 2 days. Should be gtg after that
So that ticking noise I have started to hear with my car is normal? I heard it here after your repair. Bought mine new and is well maintained - I’ve 156k miles on the odometer. ‘17 Limited with the 2.0 like this one. At about 100k I had my spark plugs replaced and just before that I needed new coils due to misfires - there was an available update to one of the modules which fixed something relating to the tendency to misfire. A new coil design was installed; no issues since. However, I do wonder about this ticking noise that often occurs when colder. But does quiet down as warms up usually. Though there are times at idle I hear it. I have a lifetime CNA wrap warranty and don’t have to pay any deductibles, so I’m just wondering when I should consider bringing it in - if ever, considering I haven’t any issues driving and no codes. Just a pesky sound. Age or not, I’m curious about your thoughts. :) Never used to make such a sound but it’s pretty much just like in the video, after you turn it on around 28 min mark. Thanks for the content and any feedback you might have.
That is the direct injection High pressure fuel pump ticking. Sounds like a diesel eh? There is foam under the engine cover that helps to insulate the noise, but as it gets older, the foam breaks down and the pump begins to "wear out". I say it with quotations because the pumps are designed to last a long long time. I know compared to older engines (with port fuel injection) these noises are concerning, but the new GDI engines are noisy. A normal noise, no need to worry unless something goes wrong :)
@@SuburbanRedneckGarage ah. I thought this was a 2.0 Atkinson engine, which is multiport fuel injected. Is this the Sport or ECO engine? Both those variants have 1.6L that are indeed GDI
@@oniisanmaaku I stand corrected. I was back fixing the O2 sensor on this car and it is indeed multiport injected. The noise seems to be from the injectors themselves.
@@SuburbanRedneckGarage is it a concern? I mean. No codes but rather loud and it never did that until probably last 20k miles and slowly became more noticeable. Especially during cold weather startups but even sometimes just idling and warmed up.
@@oniisanmaaku I’d say totally normal and fine. As long as it’s an up top ticking, and not something deeper. With Hyundai and Kia you always need to be aware of rod knock, and the startings of that, however this noise does not sound like that
Great video. I have an 18 Elantra. This will be very helpful when/if it becomes necessary for me to do this .
Great to hear! Thanks for watching!

No issues. I just went back to my customers house yesterday to do O2 sensors. No leaks from the cover whatsoever, and it is still running well!

Torque specs?
I believe the “official torque spec “ is 6-7 lbs. I just went until tight with my ratchet as you can see.
