      @Lord Riggnarok I recently got some Hamboards. But no, I left them out because I originally thought they were making boards that looked like surfboards instead of having the functionality of a surfskate. Discovered their HST, so I'll be covering them soon

      @@madformtb2312 Yeah I gotcha. Yow is solid, it's just a different feeling... more 'divey' and a little less predictable. But I love their board designs. Smoothstar has more resistance from its compression spring which is why it's more smooth. From a functionality standpoint, Smoothstar is the best for surf training

    Love the shoutout to the subreddit!! What you really need to try is a Slide truck, or one of the many clones (I have a Flow, which is a new subbrand of Origin so the quality is pretty great). They don't lean near as much as others which is great for skate parks or just general cruising if you're a longboarder. I imagine with any other truck going back to regular trucks would be awful. I had to sell my Vanguard because I kept falling off of it since it's so radically different from my surfskate 🤣

    I've been curious about these. I live in Louisiana now. I used to surf when I lived in Puerto Rico. It's been 15 years since then. Surfing was my first time on a board. From that I moved around the US. After surfing, I got to try snowboarding, moved to LA, tried out wakeboarding and skateboarding. Never done longboarding but I'm pretty happy with just regular skateboarding.

    • @concrete-waves
      @concrete-waves  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surfskating is probably my favorite type of boardsport right now. I started regular skateboarding when I was 5 and did that for many years. But nowadays I enjoy surfing and mellow riding more. It's an expensive hobby but I think it's worth it. Maybe try to find someone that lives near you with one so you can test it out

    I'm on the verge of buying a SwellTech Premiere ( or maybe the Hybrid Camo? because its slightly cheaper with a wider tail area and decent wheelbase) anyway, I'm over my Carver -even put the CX truck on an old reverse kingpin Chilli deck and drilled new holes making it super loose. I previously owned a Carver C7 and found the CX to be tighter turning. But Carver as a surfskate has its surftraining limitations and after 5 years of being on them, I am ready to progress on to something even "surfier". WHAT I really want is to get my hands or feet on a Toledo #77 by Smoothstar but I live in Orange County CA and with the Carver patent monopolizing the So Cal surf skate market it is impossible to get a Smoothstar. So glad that you shed new light on the distribution center opening in 2021! In the meantime, I am on the fence about getting a Swell tech, on the positive side they 're the LOOSEST surfskate out there and are said to 99.9% resemble short board surfing, however the thing is fragile as the the springs break often even with their newer truck version II. Also, having broken both wrists (my rt one with the Carve Board -the giant board with inflatable tires that I thought would never slide out!) the Swell Techs seem really sketch as nosediving looks all too easy to do on them. I look forward to your review of Swell Tech's as a surftrainer (bottom turns top turns cutbacks) and also your opinion on how sketchy it is. It looks like you got the J.O.B. Banzai model?

    This vid got my sub. Looking forward to seeing your reviews to hear you take on comparing them.
    While smooth star was enticing, I was between waterborne and carver because smoothstar are already expensive and tack on almost $100 shipping. Yikes. I picked waterborne to try on my deck to see if it was worth the hype. A couple months later, I built a new board based on their adapter since it was so much fun. That said, it makes me wonder what I am missing in the other surfskates, which wraps me back to waiting for your comparison!

    Landyachtz recently came out with their own version of a surfskate and I picked one up recently as they were the most accessible to me in Canada. They dont use springs but a reverse king pin truck and I've managed to learn to pump pretty well on them but lacking in some speed. I'm thinking its due to the lack of springs not providing me any return of energy? Might be worth checking out!

    • @concrete-waves
      @concrete-waves  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone actually just mentioned to me about that Landyachtz surfskate. I haven’t tried it but, yup I’d say you’re right... chances are you’re not getting that return of energy because there aren’t any springs. The springs are pretty vital in a surfskate because it pulls the truck from one side to another, without losing speed

    @elvergalarga6016 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    These were popular in Hawaii in the 00s. I had a chance to try out a surf skate, the one with 3 wheels, the front wasn’t a truck it was one wheel on a caster at an angle like those ripsticks. Much too unstable for my tastes

    • @concrete-waves
      @concrete-waves  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends what surfskate you get. YOW, Smoothstar & Waterborne are more aggressive for carving, whereas Carver has more mellow trucks. I wouldn't recommend going over speed bumps with these

    • @concrete-waves

      Surfskating works best when you have a board in the 28-34"ish range. The shorter the wheelbase, the snappier the turns. So I'd prob save up, get a used cruiser and Waterborne adapter. Or look into a YOW or Smoothstar, although that'll be more expensive
