I think as cliché as it might sound, our character is developed through the experiences that aren’t necessarily pleasant. It’s as if we are being prepared to handle the “sweetness of the candy” as per your analogy.
I honestly think its helpful because when I sit at my desk and work, I am more likely to look at them. Maybe try placing them somewhere you can see like bathroom mirror or close to your work place. Hope this helps!
