As somebody who played a lot of SMW romhacks back in the day, I knew about climbing the vine with an item, and the double-item grab. But a lot of these facts are new to me, and pretty interesting.
Quite a lot of these are more glitches than details, but that makes them more interesting. Imagine Mario Maker with double items or items while climbing? Well, guess that's what Kaizo's for!
1, 3, 5, 8, 9, 11, and 12 were explicitly taught in Nintendo Power and the official Nintendo Player's Guide. ...But you made my day with that Pokey totem.
I remember when I first saw this game as a kid while my parents were at some dinner party and the son had a SNES with this game. I remember sitting on the bed playing it for quite awhile as the adults all did their silly eating and talking. It was so magical to me! 🥰❤️
knew a handful of these but definitely learned a lot. I remember me and my cousin trying to complete Star Road when my mom made us eat dinner. That Theme started playing and we both looked at each other and ran back into the bedroom to see what happened!😂
i thought the same but it was not XD when you jump off while behind the fence mario will still be behind the fence. But when holding the p switch he will magically hold it while it's in the foreground and he is in the background facing sideways. it looks cool though
Some of these I actually didn't know about before. Nice job! Minor nitpick though at 2:53, those are actually Cheep Cheeps. Blurps are the green fish enemies with goggles. Though the confusion makes sense, they're similar-looking fish enemies and Super Mario Maker (2) turns Blurps into a variant for the Cheep Cheep in the SMW-style.
It's not really a secret or anything special but it's something I always like to do when I play SMW. Fences count as if though you're jumping, so if you climb a fence and sit on enough Koopas, you get easy 1-ups. It's really easy to do in the first castle since there are a lot of them in a simple pattern.
I knew most of these that vine cape is how I got to the second exit on cheese bridge and another stage to reach max multi coin block is in forest of illusion 3 when you have a cape. Very interesting to watch.
This was awesome! Never knew about the continuance flight ability after grabbing a vine mid-flight. Would you all ever do Super Metroid? I love that game!
One fact is that you can practically spin jump on everything in SMW. A few examples of spin jumpable enemies are boos, lava bubbles, the poison bubbles in ghost houses, and blarggs.
How many of the control related (carrying items, etc) stuff do you think was intended? Also thanks for that grey block. I’ve wondered for over a decade.
I remember doing all of these except for the feather not resetting the turtle 1 ups, that one I didn’t know about, thanks for taking be back to my childhood
As someone whos been in the smw hacking community for a long time and played many (kaizo) hacks this video didnt show me anything new, but i still love me some trivia
7:40 that isn't the only instance of a 1-up mushroom appearing by performing a specific series of movements. It's not even the first! The first is in Donut Plains 1. Another is in the Vanilla Ghost House, requiring one to step on platforms near the beginning in a specific order. Yet another is on Cookie Mountain, requiring running across clouds. Yet another is in Wendy's Castle, requiring another counter-clockwise maneuvering around a gray block near several grinders. Big Boos may also be killed by sliding across the ground with your cape open like a parachute. Suffice it to say, when it was "discovered" that slope sliding can also kill them, my reaction was, "Wait, people DIDN'T extrapolate that from the cape sliding?!?" Didn't know about the cape trick with the shell; I thought something like that was only possible by hitting randomly-spawning Bullet Bills. Oh, here's one: when riding Yoshi, it is possible to slide UPHILL!
Those 1-UP spawners are actually four separate level objects according to Lunar Magic. Also, that's actually not the first place those 1-UP spawning objects appear. There's actually some at the start of Yoshi's Island 4 sitting above the screen.
Been playing this game since it came out and thought I knew everything there was to know, but you got me with the mysterious gray block. That's a new one to me.
The super mario world remix throws me back to when I found out about it, was playing until my mom called me to eat but I wanted to continue playing later so I kept the game running, got up from the table the moment this started playing, my favorite easter egg since.
The only ones I didn't know about were 4, 11, 12 and 13. A lot of the more obscure quirks like double item grab and P-switch recycling were things I learned in rom hacks though.
My favorite trick is in the Vanilla Secret level with the jumping paratroopas. Go to the middle of the level where there are a bunch of spinies and grab the Gray P-Switch. Bring it back to just about where the jumping troopas end, and press it. If you're quick enough you should be able to rack up a full 99 lives because after a while each gray coin that spawns will award you with a 1up and collecting enough of them will result in 3ups over and over.
First three, I was like, "Yeah. I figured those out on my own. I wonder if I'll know the rest." I didn't. Was a really cool vid, though! I don't know how common knowledge tricks are in SMW, but another thing I figured out was how to change direction while flying. If you use your second attack button and press the other way, you'll go back to flying once you stop spinning.
Never knew about holding an item in Mario's hands while riding Yoshi. So if Mario is carrying 2 items with double item carry, and Yoshi is eating an item, Mario can carry a total of a whopping 3 items at once... never needed for 96 exit but interesting mechanic nonetheless! Great job on the vid 👍
If these were intended mechanics, then the game would have mentioned them, either in the text boxes, or in thr official game booklet...these are unintended glitches.
This is hands down my favorite 2D Mario game, I've played this for over 20 years since I was a kid. I STILL did not know most of these. Well I knew about the music changing after a few minutes of listening and like maybe 3 other secrets.
Wow i didn’t know about killing that giant ghoast or by hitting each block from the leftside to get a jackpot in the bonus level etc,,,, But did you know that you can also grab a turtle shell a d spin with it?? But it’s random.
I don’t know if back in the day was a bug or what, but, if you don’t have both controllers connected to the console, the 2 players modes won’t show at the title screen
2:51 That isnt a Blurp, its a Cheep Cheep. Blurps are the green fish that wear goggles. A flopping cheep cheep can be seen at the beginning of Vanilla Dome 2 where upon falling into water, it turns into a regular swimming cheep cheep.
Interestingly the Yoshi in that artwork is done in the exact same style as ones in the super Mario world manual. I couldn't find any specific promotional art though that matched it, or find a source for that artwork, other than a deviantart of the Yoshi for koopshikinggeoshi that might just have been a recolour anyway.
I knew 1, 2, 3, learned 4 years after, 5, also learned 6 after a few years, 8, 9, 11 but didn't ever try it on a fence, 12, 14, 15 usually i don't know much in the "facts" videos but i played this casually and speedrunning for years before youtube
EXCUSE ME! How are these just IN THE GAME! Nintendooo! Also I know of a ghost house level where you have to touch like 5 points/platforms in a specific order and an effing 1-up will randomly spawn, just like with the grey block in this video. WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING!?
Amazing! Some of those have to be unintentional, though. Still, this makes me want to get out the SNES and play Super Mario World like in the old days.
As somebody who played a lot of SMW romhacks back in the day, I knew about climbing the vine with an item, and the double-item grab.
But a lot of these facts are new to me, and pretty interesting.
So cool to learn new things about one of my absolute favorite games!
Yeah, cool! 😅
Same
This guide in 4:03 is very useful if you wanna try the 100% in Super Mario Advance 2, remember the Dragon Coins is part of the collectibles
Yeah, that game is teadious for 100% completion. 😅
Most of this is stuff i never knew expect maybe 2 or 3 of them, great content
Quite a lot of these are more glitches than details, but that makes them more interesting. Imagine Mario Maker with double items or items while climbing? Well, guess that's what Kaizo's for!

I didn’t find one I knew until the Special music one.
And I’ve 100%’d this game soooo many times. It’s top-5 in my top 100 games list. So good job!
knew a handful of these but definitely learned a lot.
I remember me and my cousin trying to complete Star Road when my mom made us eat dinner. That Theme started playing and we both looked at each other and ran back into the bedroom to see what happened!😂
My dad and I used to play this ALL the time when we were younger, I should show him this lol
1:20, I love the castle theme. Mysterious and catchy too.
1:40 that looks like it was intended
i thought the same but it was not XD when you jump off while behind the fence mario will still be behind the fence. But when holding the p switch he will magically hold it while it's in the foreground and he is in the background facing sideways. it looks cool though
I've played this game for 30 years and all but maybe 5 of these were new to me. Awesome video.
After like 30+ yrs I learnt something new and fun that are for regular players too, not just speed runners. Thanks a ton!
The Pokey Totem was so fun... hahahaha!
It's not really a secret or anything special but it's something I always like to do when I play SMW.

Some of these are so random, I love it
There’s more 1-ups that you get by hitting invisible triggers in the levels
Yes, these invisible triggers these can be seen with an SMW editor like Lunar Magic...😅
This was awesome! Never knew about the continuance flight ability after grabbing a vine mid-flight.
Would you all ever do Super Metroid? I love that game!
Yeah, i'd call that tech: Cape Flying Storage...😅
One fact is that you can practically spin jump on everything in SMW. A few examples of spin jumpable enemies are boos, lava bubbles, the poison bubbles in ghost houses, and blarggs.
Even on sawblades is posible.
True. One weird exception is the bony beetle when the spikes are out. Since you can spin jump sawblades it makes no sense.
I feel like you read the 90s Mario Mania book and recreated a lot of the tips from there.
How many of the control related (carrying items, etc) stuff do you think was intended? Also thanks for that grey block. I’ve wondered for over a decade.
I'm supprised I didn't know about half of those!
2:23 *Mario sliding down a staircase* BUMPA BUMPA BUMPA BUMPA BUMPA
The Special world music secret happens after 8 loops of the regular music, one for each stage in the Special world.
Intresting...🤔 I though it was only twice...😅
I remember doing all of these except for the feather not resetting the turtle 1 ups, that one I didn’t know about, thanks for taking be back to my childhood
2:05 I never knew the koopa shell cape counterattack 1-UP exploit, until now. 😅 Thanks. 😏
As someone whos been in the smw hacking community for a long time and played many (kaizo) hacks this video didnt show me anything new, but i still love me some trivia
Style reminds me of Whoisthisgit in a good way. Nice video
Of all the years playing this game and romhacks, I actually didn't know #4 and learned something new today
Am I dumb or was this only 15 things
it’s actually 15 things

wait, a youtube channel with text commentary, so you can watch the video while listening to something else? i'm sold
The only ones I didn't know about were 4, 11, 12 and 13. A lot of the more obscure quirks like double item grab and P-switch recycling were things I learned in rom hacks though.
On 16, if you have 2 switches in your hands and duck in a corner, you will get killed when releasing the switches.
Wow... you always learn something new here o.o
Where's 16? I only see 15
Okay the first bunch I remember doing since I was a kid/tween and then I was like whoah that’s cool! Nice work 👍🏻!
My favorite trick is in the Vanilla Secret level with the jumping paratroopas.

@@ShuckleShellAnemia Balloon Mario.😅
Actually, the trick in the vertical bonus room is to hit the blocks when the question mark is directly in the center of the block.
Even when I think I know this game inside out... this video proves me wrong.
Very informative. I only knew of two or three of these.
Also, I've never heard the term anticlockwise, only counterclockwise.
Nice video dude 😁😁😁
The majority of these are glitches, not details.
Shush 🤫
Shush 🤫
Shush 🤫
Awesome, TX for sharing!!!
Awesome video, there was a lot I did not know! :O
That's... fascinating.
Anti-clockwise? Lol
You mean counterclockwise.
Good video, keep up the hard work!
No they mean anti-clockwise
Easily a top 3 Mario game of all time.
First three, I was like, "Yeah. I figured those out on my own. I wonder if I'll know the rest."
I didn't. Was a really cool vid, though!

Just imagine finding out all of these 30 years after release
after all the speedruns ive watched and time spent playing the game i am amazed that i didnt know some of these
Detail #8: Someone's been watching GameXplain
LOL. 😅😅
Okay, that was a LOT of things I didn't know. : D
You can also slide to take out the giant green bubbles in one of the ghost houses.
super mario games are crazy with hidden 1ups
8:14 How long i took to figure out, that hitbox issue!? 😳
Cool! I didn't know any of these
The title says 16 details, but in the video, it goes to 15... Is the 16th one in another castle ?
glitches = details 💤
Surprised, I didnt know most of them!
Fun fact: the 1-up bonuses are generated as soon as you hit the first block; they aren't generated when the room is loaded.
Very cool I have this game on Wii from Wii shop
Went into the video expecting most of it to be things I already knew. Came out of it learning more new things about this game I thought I’d mastered.
Ofcourse you thought you would have known them, the title implys thats these glitches were intended.
D: wow...
Now I kinda need to play that game again...
Great video!
Gotta subscribe now... -___- I'm hooked.
Wow this is some good stuff. I only knew a few of these.
Cool
This channel is just home run after home run.
If these were intended mechanics, then the game would have mentioned them, either in the text boxes, or in thr official game booklet...these are unintended glitches.
Most of these are glitches rather than "things we missed"
I knew some of them but a lot of them were new to me I’m playing this game over 30 years
I must have played too much of this as a kid, I knew about half of these. :)
This is hands down my favorite 2D Mario game, I've played this for over 20 years since I was a kid.
I STILL did not know most of these.
Well I knew about the music changing after a few minutes of listening and like maybe 3 other secrets.
Awesome!
nice intro
one of the best games ever made
Was expecting stuff that's common knowledge, but a lot of it isn't. Nice!
The only 1 I knew is that banzai bill one, and the one that had happened to me but I never knew why was that 1 up at the end gate, all the others wow!
Wow i didn’t know about killing that giant ghoast or by hitting each block from the leftside to get a jackpot in the bonus level etc,,,,
But did you know that you can also grab a turtle shell a d spin with it?? But it’s random.

Yoshkey it’s right there.
was surprised at how many of these i didnt know! wheres the artwork at the end from? its lovely

Super Awesome Tips! Thank you very much for sharing.
You can kill a buzzsaw the same way you kill the big boo :)
Yeah, it even shows glitchy graphics when you kill it
I knew 1, 2, 3, learned 4 years after, 5, also learned 6 after a few years, 8, 9, 11 but didn't ever try it on a fence, 12, 14, 15

i played this game so much as a kid that im still bored of it
Mario world has too many One ups it's crazy it's like the only power they have
Wow impressive! I only knew 2 of these!
Amazing! Some of those have to be unintentional, though. Still, this makes me want to get out the SNES and play Super Mario World like in the old days.
