    Yeah, best version of Dead Flowers EVER... I locked onto the Stones when I was maybe 11 or 12 - been a huge fan ever since (I am 65 now, lol). The live performances between 1969 and 1972 are some of the best live rock and roll performances ever and are the reason they were known as the best rock and roll band in the land - TRUTH. Keep in mind that Keith sang in a boy's choir at church. When his voice changed and he got kicked out, he was emotionally devastated. He thought his life was over. The boy could sing really well. Here, he does a clever harmony. Listen close to the few notes he hits just perfect. That's why Mick is grinning. Mick is all about perfection. Gotta be balls on perfect. Keef hits it cold.

      Absolutely! And really, that’s one of the biggest things missing from the Stones in the last 20 years; Keith rarely sings! And certainly NOT with Jagger! It’s too bad, this was one of the major things that made the Stones sound like the Stones (vs just sounding like Mick Jagger). Do you see the smiles between Mick & Keith here? They sure don’t do that anymore either - in fact, none of them smile at all during a concert these last 20+ years! Well, except Keith...he smiles often, but it is not while he’s playing. It’s sad, they just don’t seem like they have fun doing it; and we know that none of the band likes Mick (because he did become such an old lady and premadonna), and Keith and Mick can’t stand each other - so WHY continue touring? Not like any of them need the money! If they loved it, that would make sense, but they sure don’t look like they enjoy it. Almost like it’s torture! Oh well. But your comment - bang on, they DID sound great together - just listen to Wild Horses with earphones...that’s a winning combination!

      joseph giuffdrida Well that’s why I said it’s one of the biggest things I miss; so yes he’s smiling here!! They had fun back when this was filmed - always. It’s today they don’t have that same chemistry and closeness they had back then. When Keith stopped the drugs, he took a more active role in the band and that caused conflict with Mick, who up til then was more often able to get his way. Again, that’s why I said I miss it, they had a collaboration that worked and they made some great music! We haven’t seen music like this from them since the 70’s, and most likely we never will again. ☹️
      I agree with you, he is The Godfather, and an extremely underrated musical influence! He doesn’t get the credit he should! Have to love Keef in all his phases!! Hahaha.

    • @ricktaylor4real
      @ricktaylor4real 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Janet Gudino Yes, I agree, they are what they are because of Mick....but they are who they are because of Keith as well! They both tried solo careers and realized that neither of them alone could do it the way they do it as the Stones! We all have to be happy that was the case, think of all the great bands that ended for various reasons back then (Beatles, Zeppelin, et. al); the Stones were very close to following suit. It would be so amazing to see these two patch up completely and get back to their Glimmer Twins success! Today, they only “get their rocks off when they’re dreaming”, it’s just not the same musical creation it was. (Don’t get me wrong, that’s not to say I don’t love them, I do and they’re amazing, it’s just not as amazing as it was).

      +aussieboy77 To me, replacing Keith with backup singers was a step down. Sure he can´t sign backing vocals for everything, but hearing him on some choruses etc like this is fantastic! On this performance he´s spot on.

      But that was 40 something years ago. Everybody's voice changes throughout the years. Even Jagger has to sing in a different key now. Today Keith's voice is real gravely.

    • @aleksanderness8142
      @aleksanderness8142 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Oh sure, I'm well aware of that. If you listen to Mick singing Tumbling dice today, towards in 78-81, its a huge difference. I do understand that Keith couldn't sing it for every song in the set.. But then again, the man just released a solo album, and lets not forget he sings 2 songs each live show, still today. IF the stones (or should I say Mick) wanted to use him more as a backing singer, they could. But oh well. Can't always get what you want, huh.

      Underrated by who ? He's considered one of the best ever, he always is very highly placed in lists of the best ever guitarist's and in every stones videos at least half the comments are saying that Mick Taylor was the best lead they ever had. As the stones have been seen live by more people than the Pope and have millions of fans,millions of people know exactly who he is and he is no way considered underrated. It's becoming so popular on music videos featuring very famous/talented musicians for the comments " so and so ( insert very famous name ) is underrated "
      Sorry but it's not cool to jump on the underrated bandwagon, it's just ridiculous especially when talking about a rock and roll legend who's considered one of the best ever

      @mariodriessen9740 8 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      It surprises me that Keith (and Mick as well for that matter) don't actually need to be reminded at all. I listened to many versions of this song and this is the only one that doesn't go wrong at that point. The other great thing about this live version is the fact that Keith hits all the notes perfectly. I mean, you will never hear a better pitched Keef ever again in your live, hahaha..... You know, I always preferred Keith's vocals over Mick's. Songs like 'Happy' and 'Walk before they make me run' belong to my favourites. Ah well, on the other hand...., there's only one singer who can get away with his vocals on a song like 'Emotional Rescue'. Without Jaggers' voice there's absolutely no-one who can make this song as beautiful as it is. But hey, we're talking about the Rolling Stones. It's only the greatest rock 'n roll band in the world. :-)

    • @davethebarber62920
      @davethebarber62920 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yea I noticed that too. This is the best live performance of the song vocally, IMO, but there is another video on You Tube of this song where Mick Taylor's guitar work sounds even better than it does here. That one is from 1971

    • @Kleermaker1000
      @Kleermaker1000 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      His solos during the European 1970 tour are amazing: Brown Sugar, Dead Flowers, Love In Vain, to name a few of them. But there's hardly any good material from that tour, the Essen concert being the best registered (audience) recording. But how many American do know about the Rolling Stones 1970 European tour? Not so many I guess. Mick Taylor's playing during the 1971 Farewell Tour is some sort of spin off of that 1970 Tour, but it is not so good as it was during that wonderful tour in 1970.
