oh no youre making a big mistake in telling people something! when you treat your fish with a medicine and you cant switch the water out as much, leave the substrate, glasses and filter alone! i made this huge mistake, evberytime cleaning off my filter and didnt change my water enough. tihs caused: more nitrate in the water, less essencial bacteria in the filter and tank. my fish get strresed and have a low imune becouse of it, so the mold is growning much easier on them. to prevent to much stress while you cant change the water for a view days, you need to do a big waterchange, and leave the rest alone.
salt is stimulating the fish to make new slimy skin layer, what rejects the mold. it can also use in really small dosis becouse tapwater also contains a small amount of salt. its not toxic its not a medication. but there are big downsides to it. your plants dont like it and to much isnt good for the fish i recon. you can also give your fish a more concentrated salt bad for a view minutes but i guess the cause of the mold is the fish his imune system or stress level being to high anyway so you have to take some measseures at the first place for that. you have to kill the problem by the roots, the rest will follow along

I prefer Jungle Fungus Clear for external fungal/bacterial infections. Most external lesions have bacterial and opportunistic fungal components, so my opinion is that you might as well treat both (the Fungus Clear has potassium dichromate to treat fungus and nitrofurazone for gram-negative bacteria). It's just a great combo in my experience. I'm not a huge fan of maracyn (erythromycin) as it mainly treats gram-positive bacteria and most fish infections are gram negative. I also prefer to use formaldehyde (ich x = formalin and malachite green) only when dealing with an issue that can't be solved otherwise (some protozoan parasites). It stains everything, has the most adverse reactions out of the meds I've used, and can really knock back your cycle. Having worked with the stuff professionally for years, I can attest that it's nasty stuff. It's fairly non-specific and will eventually kill both host and pathogen - we just hope it kills the pathogen first.
She didn't put the sponge filter in a plastic bag before removing it like Cory instructed in his video on sponge filters. I do that now and no more huge cloud of crap when I pull the sponge to clean it.

My mentor (RIP Mr. K) taught me early to go ahead & get that economy size can of flakes & to section it out into multiple sealable sandwich bags, then get another (different food) & do the same.... lather, rinse, repeat.... next thing you know; you’ve got a bulk supply of food that you can keep fresh & mix up for your little ones. Throw something live in the mix every week (worms, brine, etc) & the little ones have a nice variable diet. Quality content Irene; as always...
Speaking of herbal medicine that you mentioned. One veterinarian on his website advises adding black tea to the aquarium to help heal the damage from infections and injuries. The recepe is 1 cup of tea per around 100 litres or 25 gallons. I've just tried it with my goldfish. Of course, it shouldn't be the #1 treatment, but it seems to help at least a bit.
I wish I'd found this video sooner! Just went through a stressful week with my Betta and it took me a while to figure out what was wrong. It started out about a week and a half ago: my little guy wasn't eating and was hanging out on the bottom of the tank. He was bloated so i figured it was constipation, he could hardly swim and looked almost dead. the bloating actually cleared within a few days but he still couldn't swim or eat. then i noticed he had white spots or lumps on either side near his swim bladder- but it looked internal so i was fearing everything from tumors to TB. Water perimeters had been perfect. I suspect a small nerite snail or mossball i put in recently had some bacteria or something. Looking at pictures online of various diseases i still couldn't identify the spots. So after 2 days some stringy white stuff started coming out- and i realized it was fungus. I bought API Bettafix and some freshwater aquarium salt and added a few days in a row. Now all of a sudden he is swimming and eating and id say he's back to about 75% of his normal self;) i think i credit the salt more than anything. Also other things i did was lower the water level pretty low in the tank/turn off the filter so he can surface for air much easier. Turn your light off to reduce stress too!
I cured ick in my 55 g African Cichlid tank with heat 84°F and melafix. I noticed a huge difference within a couple days and continued treatment for 4 days after all signs was gone.

Well, I kept my betta in a 35 litre aquarium at 24 degrees, did daily partial waterchanges and even added a little bit of salt as a preventative measure, but it still got fungus. I couldn’t find info on that (I am not an Angel fan so never had them in my 20+ years of fish keeping). I also couldnt see them well as they hide in the plants at the back of the tank. Hi there! I'm happy to say that I just joined your channel, it's my first You Tube channel that I have ever joined and I give credit to you and this video for joining! Some channels recommend to treat just the infected fish and not the whole tank, Your thoughts please?
Welcome Francis, You could quarantine the fish and treat it, but often times the disease is spreading through the fish and you haven't noticed the signs yet. Some diseases have eggs and cysts that stay in the tank even if you remove the fish. We recommend treating the whole aquarium.
It would be helpful to provide a weight measurement for the salt in grams. As anyone who bakes knows, measuring anything over a tablespoon volumetrically is just not accurate and different kinds of salt have different weights per gallon. A kitchen scale costs $10 on Amazon, and your cakes and cookies will be so much better, too!
My neon tetra are constantly showing this mouth fungus. No other fish in the tank show these symptoms just the neons. I've been treating with white spot/fungus meds that turn the water blue but to no avail

Hi! Question! My betta has fin rot and I did the first recommended treatment with the packet of maracyn/teaspoon of Ich-x on Sunday night.
