‎ Regular salt (sodium chloride or NaCl) is one of the best aquarium medications in the world, but you must be careful to use it correctly since it does not evaporate from water. Cory explains what kinds of infections it treats, the difference between NaCl salt and other salts, and recommended dosage amounts.

The osmoregulatory system of marine life deals with that. The most interesting are estuarine life which can deal with varying salinities. Also, what Cory is referring to is FRESHWATER simple life (protists such as ich) vs. multi-cell/organismal life such as fish.

Ok for those of you who have kitchen scales and like precision (assuming aquarium salt tbs that Cory is using weights 17 g or 0.6 oz):
    Level 1 - 1.5 g per liter or 0.2 oz per gallon
    Level 2 - 2.24 g per liter or 0.3 oz per gallon
    Level 3 - 4.49 g per liter or 0.6 oz per gallon
Btw, if you decide to get your salt in the grocery store, avoid anticaking agent. This is a citation from Clinical Guide to Fish Medicine: ''Some salts contain anticaking agents (e.g. sodium ferrocyanide) and these must be avoided as they can be highly toxic to fish (Noga 2010a)."

Pro tip - Always mix meds in a jug of tank water before you add it to the tank. It dissolves salt and stops dosing mistakes affecting the system.

There’s been a concerted effort to ban all fish meds in Canada. Only through a veterinarian can you get them. I believe it’s to reduce people from buying these for human consumption. Same reason they’re taking guns. Amoxicillin is amoxicillin. With a global depression and war, lots of prepping folk have been stockpiling these meds.

It has bloated slowly over several months, i originally thought it was eggs until the scales started to pinecone. Currently doing at least 50% water change daily and adding Prime and Stability as labeled. We have moved our fish to a hospital tank and added API super ich cure and also added some salt (1 tbsp per 3 gal), reduced the heat (didnt want to let the epistylis thrive in warmer water) but I also understand that it will slow the ich life cycle down (if it is ich). While we are new to this hobby, we are doing our best to research and are open to suggestions. There's just a lot of information out there and some of it is conflicting. We want our fish to thrive and I want to reduce their stress and pain as much as possible but also want to keep them alive. Thanks!

I use mortan all natural water softener salt and I blend it in a blender before I use it. I blend enough to fill up a big coffee can and that lasts a long time. A 40 pound bag of rock salt is so much cheaper than buying aquarium salt.

@Aquarium Co-op will using salt in my quarantine tank harm the beneficial bacterial?

Question, how much salt is too much for live plants? I remember using a "Nitrite Absorbing" pad in my filter before and it worked but all my plants started dying so I took it out and had to research more. Once I did that I figured out it was basically just a filter soaked in salt water.

Oh my gosh. I did the same thing and couldn’t figure out why my plants suffered… thank you.

Can Aquarium Coop make some salt that isn't $5/lbs? What does Fritz put in theirs to justify that price?

A straight forward question: Is regular salt, bought in a grocery store, without added iodine. Is this the baseline salt for use as described in this video?

      @gabrielbennett5162 ปีที่แล้ว

Non-iodized salt, especially sea salt, should work. However, coarse Kosher salt or rock salt would be better. I always use Kosher salt, because I use it in my barbecue stuff and have a lot on hand.

I'm using regular salt from a grocery store, fine-grained regular NaCl salt one can put in a salt shaker. That and rising temperature to 30 ˚C / 86 F in case of mild Ich outbreak.

Also tannins, but when those got low and filter got dirty, long-dormant Ich broke out.

Can I use non iodine salt that I bought from the grocery store. It's pure salt no chemicals added. Straight Outta Japan Hokkaido.

It must have been recorded quite a while ago. I’m now in the process of starting my first aquarium and I’ve been thinking how to go about quarantining the fish. Thanks for this video, now I’ll go with the salt in the quarantine tank, as a lot of the substances you use and recommend for quarantine are not available without prescription in Europe.
