  • Why Daniel Ricciardo's Driving Style Isn't Working
    Daniel Ricciardo has not had the greatest start to the 2024 season with some really bad races due to his driving style. So we take a look at what made him quick at red bull with max Verstappen and why this current Vcarb01 isn't performing to his liking. The visacashapprb team has a lot to work on and the struggles will only continue if they don't sort it out.

    The 2014 RB was not Vettel's own car, but a whole new car for a whole new set of technical rules. Both Ricciardo and Vettel are kind of 1 trick ponys when it comes to being very and exceptionally fast, but in opposite ways. Vettel didn't get the planted rear to get his fast exits and the team wasn't helping him very much with that because Ricciardo faired quite well with the gripping front while there was no challenge to the mighty Mercedes anyway.

    • @F1Unchained
      @F1Unchained  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      It was a car still built off of Vettels input from the past cars. It was new regs but it had to have some of Vettels preferences. It is true it didn’t have a planted rear and Ricciardo faired better but it was his first season there and very impressive

Maybe Vettel marked the beginning of an era in which it became more about a driver-car fit than just some drivers being faster with any car. Daniel being a veteran should be able to adapt but hasn’t. The same happened in McLaren. Yes the car isn’t his style but even if he gets that RBR seat that car is built towards Max and he won’t be able to do better than checo. He might actually do worse in all honesty. His time might be up or if a back marker team needs a solid veteran driver to help build a car he could be the right fit but I just don’t think he’s right for a top team anymore or midfield. I've done a very little bit of racing and I tend to agree with you, a driver is either going to like a planted front OR rear and capitalises on the strengths of each. My car understeered like you wouldn't believe if driven "normally" but once this was understood I realised I could toss it in hard and late, sitting it on the outside rear, tyre while maintaining entry speed without any fear of losing the rear. This suited me fine as I was never too concerned about understeer but questioned my ability to catch a high-speed rear end snap. Confidence is key.

      No ones been to more teams than him in the last few years aside from maybe Alonso so you don't really have a fair comparison with other "Top drivers".. Alonso has been up against Ocon who Ricciardo destroyed at Renault and Stroll who anyone on the grid would beat as a team mate. I think Sainz is the only driver to prove he can adapt and succeed against difficult competition but even he is struggling against Leclerc. Most drivers suck when in a car that doesn't suit their style. The 'top drivers" in this era (Verstappen, Hamilton, Leclerc, Norris) are the ones who are lucky enough to be signed by a top team at the perfect time and have the car built around them.

    I was thinking he could change his driving style by braking later and into the apex to utilize the rear-end mechanics to get a lil bit of overteer and rotate the car until its straight, there really no point in avoiding the apex to turn the car so he should just lean into it and brake later and rotate it less but enough to make the corner and get the car straight

    I don't get the non-stop excuse making the DR fans make about his driving style not being compatible with his cars. He's driven more than half a dozen different cars under two sets of regulations made by three different constructors since leaving RBR and he's been dreadful in all of them. Part of being a good F1 driver is being able to adapt and maximize your car. If DR's issue really is his car isn't suited for his driving, that's damning to his competence as an F1 driver. He's an old dog now too so the chances of him suddenly becoming adaptable are slim. This should be his last season in F1.

    Great reporting, news, predictions, and opinions. You should do an “education series”. F1 is a rapidly growing sport and many of us are not familiar with the science, rules, history, etc. Like….”Today in part 2 of the educational series we’ll be taking a deep dive into aerodynamics, in particular the main areas of the car, their overall function, how they relate and interact with the other parts of the car, as well as the various strategies of teams and what we can see going forward.” You could do tires and suspension setups, engines, frames, basic rules/penalties, points structures, braking and driving essentials, steering wheels, F1 terms/vocabulary explained, safety features, tracks, pit science, basic F1 history (how we arrived to today’s cars), etc. This would also expand your viewing platform imho. Keep up the great content!! Would love to see you at a race, getting up close to cars/drivers, maybe a quick question or two. Merch coming?

    I'm amazed at the preferencial treatment Daniel Ricciardo is getting considering Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda out performed him

  • @butterflyblueshorts

    I can see both Yuki and Ricciardo out in 25 replaced with Lawson and Perez. if Perez does decline as usual I see his seat going to sainz or Albon. Honestly, Ricciardo should have been out of F1 years ago. He has had his issues on every car for the last 4 to 5 seasons and if F1 is the pinnacle it should not be giving third chances because better drivers don't get one.

      I don't think so, Dan has spoken about the balance of the car. He can live with understeer to an extent if the car is predictable. That's why he came good in the AT04 (and hardly any of the RB Car). It's well documented that the McLaren has quirks too, so I don't think we can conclusively say these cars don't suit him when we've only seen a McLaren and AT with the new regs. He clearly impressed in the RB19 in Silverstone, don't forget that.
      The issue in Saudi was to do with sensors and the ride height laser in the car. They didn't get his set up correct, and that exacerbated the issues with the car that both Yuki and Dan had, mainly to do with grip.

    A driver at that level should be able to drive a car competitively even with with understeer. I think what he may be doing is changing the setup to get the car to suit his style of driving, instead of changing his driving to suit the car.

    He cOuld take a page from K-mags book. Kevin realized he needed to V more corners balancing the rotation with trail braking and gas after seeing Hulk's style and quali pace. Basically don't railroad yourself into a single style. Instead approach each corner individually then adjust depending on tire wear. Then again, I don't have any 8 wins or a single second in an Formula car, ect...

    He isn’t so smug about beating Vettel now, isn’t he? He now has to play 2nd because the car doesn’t suit him. What a reverse 2014.

    • @tejovinay189
      @tejovinay189 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't see how people even try to compare Riccardo to vettel. Vettel is a far better driver than Ricciardo with better consistency, tyre management, racecraft, aggressive overtakes, car control, knowledge about building car etc.,
      All I see with Ricciardo is going down the inside in braking zone. modern formula fans know nothing about formula 1, they just go talking shit out there. But yeah, like you said, vettel is the better one by far and far.
      Any driver will struggle with a car that doesn't suit his style, vettel did in 2014, 2020. Ham did in 2022 , raikkonen did in 2014. It's pretty normal.
      Though I don't like alonso' persona , he is so amazing that I get shocked every fkin time.

    Guys i know daniel is not confident right now but realistically no one is kicking him before like 7 to 8 races. It only been 2. Lets see. If any F1 driver doesnt perform, they do not get to keep a seat. Its a bit early for swaping drivers and everyone knows that the audience is impatient af

    Great analysis thanks. I’m a kiwi and would love to see Liam in that seat but 2 races is not giving Daniel a fair go at this car. Checo was pretty average most of last season and now he is being judged as having turned a corner. He only needs one bad race now and people will turn against him again.
