What a repository of knowledge and what treasure trove of the past. I wish all these books mentioned in the video by the gentleman, whether fictional or non fictional could be listed some where. Many would die to get their hands on these valuable archives.
Very informative and interesting talk. Nicely presented. Thanks for sharing.
Calcutta was the most prominent centre of Tawaiffs from 1800 s to 1930 s or so ,Supna ,shrijan ,svetangini ,zohra ,Badi malka ,malka chulbuli ,gauhar ,malka (Agra) ,wahidan , Indubala, angurbala ,jadumonee ,Akhtari etc etc were all great classical singers regaling the cultural and commercial capital of India. Luckily no disrespect to Lahore , and the great Tawaiffs of this city!
Zubaida and Sultana were daughters of Fatima Begum, first producer director and studio owner of undivided India. She sold that studio to Mehboob Khan Saheb, still surviving as Mehboob Studios at Bandra, Mumbai.
Very well elaborated the actual places and personas , thank you
You done in details research specially about Tawaifs! Well said!
Beautiful explanation and relevant too! At least we are able to remember them
Treasure trove of historical information. Thank you
Zabardast zabardast zabardast from Punjab Lahore Pakistan
Very interesting historical facts he should write a book addressing all these facts
Alam Ara was the first sound film and not silent film. It was in the year 1931 and not 1913 !!
Thanks for the information. We want more information like this.
Tell about Reema khans family background
May Allah bless all those who left this life. They were all Gems of Pakistan. I have the honor of meeting Rani on a flight to Karachi. She was so soft spoken with a beautiful way of talking. We need to tell our young generation about our glorious past. Lahore & Karachi were both like Paris & Dubai till late 60s.Thank you for taking us in time when Arts culture Poetry & Moral values prevailed❤😢.
Not gems of Pakistan, but Hindustan (get the hint from Heera)...when Pakistan came into form nothing left. While India is still recognizing the united history, try recognizing your united history as well. Please understand, had there been no Hindustan..there would have NEVER been a Pakistan.
@@dipsxyz Hi! Namaskar, well yes you are right we inherited from Hindustan, even poets classical masters etc. Many migrated from UP were mostly highly educated ICS who built the country. You should visit Pakistan especially Lahore. It will give you nostalgic feeling.
Spot on ❤
Wow 🤩
Such positive words
Thanks God...True facts after too many wrong video interpretations after launching 'heera mandi' series
The channel is so underrated. Wish it had more audience.
Thank you so much means a lot
@@lahorenamahbhai iss admi ki awaz both irritating hy inko bolna ni aata kya
You need to have a deep lagao with the culture and heritage
Its an acquired taste. I love it love feel it in my bones. I get goosebumps hearing most of the words he is saying. But I know Qadardaan is kay kum hain. Log food street main selfie lenay tak reh gaye hai
Alam Ara was not the first silent film rather it was the first talkie film released in 1931...
It was interesting until you said: The courtesans were more loyal than gharelu aurtain.
Because wives were not in the market… they don’t have to prove their loyalty
He said khandani too 😂😂😂
He said courtesans should be more loyal then gharilu aurtian......... 😢
He was talking about the strict rules they had to follow
This was a very interesting and impressive presentation, is such a short period of time
Thank you so much
Great work Lahorenamah! Keep it up

Toba toba, ye hn inke standards. Look at thier choices , tawayefo or sex workers ko acceptable and respectable nazar se dkhty hn. In se kisi scientist , journalist ya phd women ke baray me pucho, zero info hogi. Shame !
Heramandi was 3 percent glamour and 97 percent squalor. I think this is true of all Red light areas around the world
🙏🙏
National food masale, origin surprised me😮
Mujhy bhi
Who is this gentleman?
Bhindi bazar is a respected area
Who told you it’s a red
Light area
Looks like mostly Hindus females who were somehow converted Ladies dancers with bindi suggest the same
Yes they were Hindus n Iranian women bought by Mughals they were renamed by their teachers n mentors who use to raise them or by their parents to gel easily in the household they were classically trained dancers n singers specially from Iran who were born from mistresses of the kings n royalties therefore they were so sophisticated n educated.kotha means terraces ,back then they had house which had terrace with Dari or arches so when they perform it’s visible from 4;sides. These Kathas were actually finishing schools for royalties where learned reading writing poetry literature political science n mannerism, body language, psychology, mind reading n face reading n music was for entertainment. Indian courtesans were best at dancing n it’s from UP where mujra actually started as these women who were called bai in UP were excellent kathak performers so they were taken to Mughal courts but they came to fame when they choreographed kathak on Urdu poetry n ghazals then slowly gradually the finishing schools of the tawaifs adapted mujra as it became the usp or trp whatever u may say that’s why all pictures u sea are of majority of Hindu women who we’re performers (dancer )they had Muslim names coz either they were mistress of a nawab or an offspring of a nawab
Before the advent of separatism and fundamentalism...Muslim women wore the bindi as well as the maang tikka in the centre.Maang tikka continues.
We cannot forget we belong to the same stock...a lot has diffused into our religion culture that sometimes it was hard to differentiate. After the advent of Mughals Hindu women wore the burkha even till as recently as the 60s.
Time gone never to come back again.
Sir mrs Suleiman Zareen pana she’s not the cousin of zeba and she pana was not club dancer 💃 check it again
pleas
Lekin jism faroshi kab shooro Hui yahan ?
Was Malikha Pukhraj a tawaif???
Inko nahi pata history soachte nahi hai bolne se pahle inko lagta Hindus are bad.
Yes
Not really. Great Indian singers like Begum Akhtar or Rasulanby, they were Muslims, but some of them may be converted, it is not easy to find out now.
It was all good until u start giving bias comments on lukhnowi women.
The ‘tip-toeing around’ language is really painful to listen to
Haan obviously jaha Mughals honge waha tavaife hongi hinduo me strio ko izzat dete the tavayaf nai banate the nahi apni betiyo ko bech dete the.
Agar wo itni umda theen , value thee unmein ,to mistress ki bajay , mard unse shadee kyon nahi kerte they ? Kyon mistress rakhte they ?Aap in tawaefon ka zikr ker rahe ya shahzadiyon ka? Aap ki BAAT on se lag rahaa ki sari shahzadiyan , tawaefon ke kumbey se theen. 😂 9:14
They aren't prostitutes tho. They were learning arts with proper professionals. One may compare them to today's times actresses.
Don't try to add class and finesse to your ancestors. And don't call them better in loyalty than wives of today. Maybe your wives and your daughters, comming from the same lineage, are not loyal.
The channel needs to understand their role and their niche audience. There is more to lahore than your own ancestry.
Muft ki bongiaaan.... Bazar e husann ka zikar b krna bura jana jata tha..ab ap jese log bazar e husan ko behtraeen jagah sabit krne pe tulay hoe hen...
I do sincerely hope that you as a individual are not deliberately trying to make a certain group of ladies , into woman of substance and dignified members of society. Please stop? I feel so sorry for these unfortunate poor souls ? Yet choice’s are what they made of their own lives. Maybe when they were children they had no choice? Yet when they became adults they had two legs to run on, and could have walked into a new way of life ? I hope you understand that society will never accept them as respectable members of society , no woman of great or small household will have anything to do with them or their scandals way way of thinking. If you must highlight something then show the world how or if these women contribute towards the partition of India achieving the making of Pakistan.
Virtue is in the mind, not in the appearance.
Saadi
Non the less; it appears that they aren't 'prostitutes'. One could may be compare them to modern day actresses.
I suppose much depends on what you consider a " bench mark of decency and morality "; if one uses 'islam and Sharia' as the bench mark, then these ladies really do appear to fall short in every conceivable way.
True tht..such women can only impress certain people..not us Alhamdolillah….yes they cud have made better choices in life but only IF they had th brains or th will…
@@AyeshaKhan-uy2io most times they had no choice and all men of all religions were their patrons. It’s sad the blame is left only at their doorstep. Nevertheless they were artists in their own right and that deserves dignity. People in lawful relationships nowadays behave in far more atrocious ways than these women did in their time. I think that was the point they were trying to make
@@cnmurugan1483thanks someone has realistic values
