    I use the selection and select a building, refine it, mask and apply. I check the mask and the building edges need work. It is a pain to use the brush to edit the masks building edges. Too many mistakes from unsteady hands trying to draw a perfect line along the building edge or portions of it.
    I have tried the PEN tool but found it is useless. All I get when I click for the second node is a curves something like a mask pops up above the layers.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Is there a special setting(s) in the pen tool?
    I have searched and watched many videos and I have not found how to draw a perfectly straight line using any tool for a mask. Is there one?
    I can not find any other way to communicate and get an answer.
    Great videos, easy to follow, good information in each one.

    For some reason when I try to drag the blurred average background onto the mask, it won't let me release it in the same spot as on your vid. Whatever I do, it gets attached to the mask above or under and it becomes part of the mask layer in some strange way. I then can't control it separately and can't apply a soft light blend to it. It gets applied to the whole mask.

Eine Bitte hätte ich für dieses Jahr: falls du darüber nicht bereits Videos veröffentlicht hast. make sure the layer is (pixel) not (image) when you want to copy just a part of it. Also, there is the option "copy flattened" that merges all layers while doing the copy. maybe you selected that by accident

    Supposing you were to composite a person into the head-on hallway photo you used for illustration at the 1:00 mark. I understand positioning the person so everything points to the same vanishing point but how would you determine a big (tall) to scale the person so the perspective matches? Photoshop appears to have such a perspective scaling feature but it looks to be guesswork in Affinity Photo.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If there are some visual Markers in the photo that you can use, you could draw some lines to help you with that. and then use a grid jpg with the perspective tool to make it inst a perspective grid :)

    Hey Olivio, why don't you create some shadow on the mushroom where ballerina's feet touch them. That would have been more realistic creation.
    But thank you so much for the tricks of color adjustments, and the concept of selection of pictures those can be combined

    • @OlivioSarikas

      are you sure it's not just the checkerboard that AP shows instead of a background? If you move her, does the chkerboard pattern move too? If yes, you probably took a screenshot that rendered her together with that checkerboard and you need to select her and remove that background.

    Stumbled on an issue: When I copy and paste a selection and paste it into a new image, the selection shows up, but also the previously cropped part of the copied image also shows up. I chose another image (not cropped) and made a selection from it. When I pasted that onto the new image, it only showed the selection, which is what is wanted.
    Why does it paste the previously cropped part of the image as well as the selection? And is there a way around this or do I just have to make sure the image I'm selecting from isn't cropped?
    Thanks! :D

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      make sure the layer you want to copy from is a "pixel" layer, not a "image" layer

    • @flexman22
      @flexman22 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OlivioSarikas Thanks for the reply Olivio. Yes it is a Pixel layer. I noticed in your vid you selected (grayed out) both the Pixel and Mask layer before you copied. I am using the ipad version of Affinity Photo. I'm trying to figure out how to grey out both layers at the same time, as maybe that is the issue. I have both layers ticked. I made both layers into a single group, but this didn't help.
      I will get to the bottom of it. I'm fairly new to all this, but I am learning a lot these days. Thanks! :D

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@flexman22 If you talk about what i do at 6:05 - i'm not selecting and then copying a part of the image. I am creating a mask and then copy the image AND the mask over to the other file. But the full image is still there below the mask. So in that case you indeed need both the image and the mask

    • @flexman22
      @flexman22 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I've finally figured this out. I'd never realised before/forgot that when you crop a picture and then go to the 'move' tool, the move tool still shows the outline and contains all the data of the complete image so you can move the cropped out parts into the cropped area if you wish (you already know this of course. I'm telling this to myself and maybe to others who may be reading this).
      When I copied the pixel layer and mask (that had previously been cropped) into the new image and used the 'move' tool to position the pixel layer and mask into the new image, I could see nothing but the new image around the selected and masked area, however I could also see the cropped out part of the copied pixel layer. Again, this is because I forgot that the 'move' tool still includes all of the image bar the selected and masked areas.
      Maybe there's a better way of describing this, but I'm pretty sure you understand how I've gotten confused (I hope 😂 )
      I think the reason I got so confused about this is because you were using (and I understand why!) a completely black background for the pixel layer you were copying, plus it hadn't been cropped at all. If the pixel layer you were copying from has been cropped and had a detailed background, then I may have seen the cropped out areas when you were positioning/moving the pixel layer/mask onto the destination image.
      Anyway I now understand even more from this. I've progressed more in the last few days than I have in the previous month since finding your channel, so the fact that I took about three hours to figure out what was happening is no big deal. Like I said, I am clearer on this now more than ever. Thanks for replying to me Olivio and thanks for bearing with me. I appreciate it! :D
