This incredible performance "takes off" already after a few seconds,when Carrington and Miller sets the groove..then.. it´s just to sit back and enjoy for 12 minutes!! And as I figure.. ,,this is not an easy piece of music to deliver with such a "flow" as they do here!! Thank you Herbie for all the fabulous jazz-funk-music!!!

This is a real good "live" rendition of Actual Proof ... the best I've seen. However, it's still a cover of the masterpiece created by Herbie Hancock and his Headhunters in 1973, which can't be improved upon. The band was comprised of Hancock (keyboards), Bennie Maupin (reeds), Mike Clark (drums), Paul Jackson (bass), and Bill Summers (percussion).

Terry is killing it on the drums....awesome drummer!
Except for the ending which she totally blows. Roy gives her "the Look" the WTF look..she keeps smiling, but nope.

As a guy who’s never had much money (and has spent a lot of time in the “hinterlands” of America), I’ve never had a chance to catch Herbie live. I’m making up for lost time on TH-cam. One of the things I’ve noticed is that, over the years, Herbie played more and more piano during his live performances, even when he was doing his electric stuff from the 70s (like this tune). I would have thought that the Rhodes would sound better in this kind of context, but I’m really digging the piano.

Wow...what an amazing performance of this all time fav by this all star cast of great musicians... while I will always b a tad partial to the original I would not b disappointed if this was all I had left of the two...Marcus Miller is an absolute beast and he kept Paul Jackson’s bass line to this cut just as funky...can’t get over all the fantastic artist that cam 2gether for this performance but damn how I wish I had been in attendance...😭

That bass line is extreme, if you think its easy, ask the bassist for the Roots: Herbie guested on Jimmy Fallon and the played "Actual Proof" and the bassist was LOST! Marcus Miller = DON DADA of the bass.

Spoiler alert: the roots are hacks, not real players. They coast on their fake names and cool guy friends. But put them onstage stage with any of these people and they get eaten alive and exposed as the frauds they are, like you saw.

I like this version but the original version on Thrust (if that is the original...please correct me if I am wrong), will always be the penultimate version of this song as it just flows and has a crazyness about it that I haven't heard in any other ensemble with Herbie. So far that is the best version for me.

Even though Marcus Miller probably gets closer than the others, no one does this song like Paul Jackson. I'm guessing it's a question of style. Somehow Jackson makes the line sound very nimble and light.

in this tune, in my opinion, the bassist is the one with the bigger chance of screwing everything. the bassist must be creative even with the written bassline, besides doing all the breaks. is hard to keep the time and groove and be aware of the structure.
im studying this piece now, and fews version of this tune in youtube are good. the best ones besides the indefectible original with mike clark and paul jackson are from tribal tech, chris dave and this one where marcus is killin.

Honestly not that impressed with Terri Lyne...I thought she good go off a little and go outside the groove a little. Maybe bounce off of Herbie a little more. I don't feel the pocket. Vinnie Colaiuta killed it in my opinion.

I love the guy but to expect that level of interaction from everyone is a little absurd considering Vinnie is the only guy who can do what he does the way he does it.
