herbie looks 40 years old ....timeless...this is my all time favorite cut from herbie- roy hargroove plays the fuck out of his solo on this song...so much fucking feeling here....mike clark and harvey mason are the masters of playing this song but Terrie lyne does a fine azz job....marcus you are simply the man brother...this song fits your azz anyway...:O)
If you closely observe 0:23, Roy plays a stub of the main melody unaccompanied and then suddenly stops. When we get to 0:38, his presumably proper entrance is much more strong and he is accompanied by Herbie. Regarding whether or not it was an intentional move, I cannot say for sure but it was just something that caught my attention. Overlooking that one feature the performance is spectacular and in no way am I trying to discount the players. Cheers
Yes I also noticed It before too and I really think it was just a mistake but a honest one! That where the melody usually starts...You know Its human what happened but in retrospect seems like he was setting the melody up:-) Cheers!
... the Paul Jackson bass lines in The Headhunters period were absolutely stunning and incredibly genial... One of my favorite ever with Jaco...
Great to be reminded how solid Marcus is on bass!! He holds the whole song together and no solo needed! Great playing.

Marcus Miller is a Fuckin BEAST on the bass.....proper
This song is pure genius, so incredibly tight almost impossible to pull off, makes it seem effortless

I always kind of chalked that up to it being a unique feature of this performance.

Paul Jackson has got to be proud of Marcus, holding it down just like the original track........yeah!!!
