CLC actually trained to be girl-crush before debut, and the girls themselves wanted to be girl-crush. But Cube decide at the last minute to force them to be 'cutesy'. And to this day, I wonder how different things would be for them, if Cube had just let them be what they wanted to be.
To be fair to Cube (oh how it pains me to say those words), they already had a girl-crush group with 4minute when CLC debuted. Imagine if all SM groups sounded like f(x) or all JYP groups like missA. As cool as that could be _in theory,_ it's nice to have variety. YG is really the only company to go all in on girl/boy-crush with every group.
