I love how Soyeon explicitly targeted the audience rather than the performers. While it's true that she called their performance the worst, she didn't take time to dissect and criticize their performance, but rather, criticize the audience who *knew* the girls' skill and yet still chose to let them through instead of more prepared contestants. She knew that the girls weren't to blame for this when it was the audience that used their votes to humiliate them like this.
She was totally in the right... and the fact that people/audience laughed or called them cute in the end just made the two performers look like a joke. As Soyeon said some better contestants didn't pass and it's just not fair that they did just because they looked cute. Totally supporting Soyeon
I'm a 50 years oldmale, with no experience... I won't show off by telling i have a good ear and i don't think anyone needs a good ear to realize that this performance was just.... too bad 🙈
It's more like Soyeon gets furious with the troll audience LOL.... The audience were just making it super humiliating for the two trainees & also forced the judges to be honestly brutal about their bad performance.
The way the audience was laughing at them really pissed me off. The amount of votes they got just for being "cute" is actually embarrassing because they were making fun of them. Feel so bad for those girls
The way the judges went from smiling to worried as they saw the numbers go up. They were so prepared for this duo to be an audition meme, not actually go through. 💀
This moment was a representation of the Kpop industry as we know it. People with no talent debuting because of their visuals & cute appeal while those who don't have the same looks but are very talented are overlooked. Those girls' singing was just nope. Soyeon hit the nail on the head & she did it with such professionalism, honesty & warmth.
Also she started in the survival show Produce 101 but didn't make it because let's be honest, she was talented but couldn't get popular enough because she lacked the "visuals" or didn't conform to the beauty standards (consider how pretty all the eventual IOI members were). So it might've been a bit personal for her that these two girls with zero vocal talent got through when others with much better performances couldn't.
It's more like Soyeon gets furious with the troll audience LOL.... The audience were just making it super humiliating for the two trainees & also forced the judges to be honestly brutal about their bad performance.
This is so sad because their family was there and their family knew that they were bad so for me I know I would be embarrassed. Idk why these trainees who had such short training periods sign up for shows like there are very few example of trainees with short periods that debut and even then singing on key and keeping rhythm should be the basic requirements but I get they let’s these types of trainees pass because they need someone bad
i honestly feel for soyeon here. knowing her history of being called ugly on survival shows and getting constantly rejected from cube just because of that (even though soyeon is insanely insanely talented), i feel like seeing these girls pass just because they're cute was really personal to her and i can't blame her for that
that's so true..she experienced first hand the negative side of pretty.privilege because she did not fit the standard..yet these tone deaf girls get a pass
It's more like Soyeon gets furious with the troll audience LOL.... The audience were just making it super humiliating for the two trainees & also forced the judges to be honestly brutal about their bad performance.
She literally spoke as if she wasn’t on camera, so real of her 😭 I loved that. I feel like others wouldn’t have the balls to say what she said(about the audience)
If you vote for contestants out of pity, you're not helping them improve. You're telling them that their performance doesn't matter because the world will reward you so that you won't feel bad. I think the clip somehow shows the environment we've created for the next generation. We've failed them miserably.
fr, its mainly tha audiences fault, but dibs to them for being able to speak without crying. also i feel like she could’ve been less harsh, but i understand. there also might not have been another way to explain how it was without the sentence ACTUALLY describing the performance. @@YCHTT
"so that you won't feel bad." - considering even grown adults were sitting there laughing in their faces, I don't think anyone cared about making these girls feel bad.
Soyeon is someone who is extremely talented and yet had to deal with the audience’s bad voting. She understands the girls like her. I’m sure she’s not actually angry with the girls themselves standing on that stage, but with the audience, cos if anything the audience are gonna make the girls suffer more. If those girls debuted, imagine the hate they’d get for not being ‘good enough’ even thought the AUDIENCE got them on that stage, if anything she’s being merciful,
exactly, if they had passed & the other trainees who showed more skill had failed and the judges didn't shut it down or at least point out this obvious bias the netizens would've had a field day. The entire show would hear no end to the bias, rigging, favoritism and industry plant/nepo baby allegations that the whole thing could've gotten canceled or at the very least if they made it to the debut group, the entire group could be dragged through the mud. The fault would lay on the judges & producers for letting trainees with weak skills debut rather than the audience that voted. I do hope these girls can improve and eventually debut once their ready, but their time isn't now, they know it, the audience knows it and the judges know it. They're not untalented by any means, they just need improvement and training. They're already great dancers and have a lot of charm & potential, once they improve on their vocals & tighten up their technique and find their sound (to me at least this song doesn't fit their vocal range as it stands, it takes experience to find what fits you which is what they're lacking) there's no telling what the future holds.
completely agree with soyeon, but the way the girls handled it was absolutely amazing. they didnt break down into tears on stage, while it was probably the worst feeling in the world, and i respect them so much for that
I love Soyeon for being not mad at the girls- who didn’t train long enough- but at the audience. She genuinely looks at the talent and not the KBS or the cute faces. I think Soyeon is one of the best idols.
Soyeon is a really talented rapper and producer, so she really can get strict when it comes to these because she also was a trainee too. She wants them to be prepared, I hope those two can become great stars in the future. Fighting!!
I respect Soyeon so much for this. This was more about her calling out the audience than calling out the contestants. You could tell she really didn't want to berate the girls but it angered her the audience gave her no choice and as such she felt it necessary as an idol and former trainee herself to critique their skills and performance to help them grow properly as professionals rather than coddle and spoil them just as the audience did. I agree korean audience's usually value appearance and concept over skill and talent, which I hope changes in due time after Soyeon did this.
I get why they audience liked them, they were cute and refreshing, but that's just for a variety show. Soyeon was right to not be cruel to the contestants, but she's right that it's not really what will give you longevity and make you a star in the industry. The audience will vote for you once because that's just what's entertaining as a one time thing for a reality show. It won't give you a career.
@grufee Their performance was like watching two 5 year olds and the audience treated them as such. Nothing about their performance was good. The singing was awful, totally off pitch and not even in the right key. And the dancing looked like they just learned the choreography 5min before. No one is naturally talented, everyone has to work hard for it, and if they can't even manage to sound decent, then that means they need more practice. There are so many more talented performers in the competition and it’s not right for these girls to get a pass, just because they’re “cute” and needed to be treated like 5 year old children. No one can build a sustainable career as a professional singer with just pity. They wanna be singers? They need to work hard for it and get their basics down, before trying to get by by their looks alone.
@monsta6501 Why you copying what the top comment says 😂 "i respect soyeon so much for this" thats a good idea though, ima start going on every page and copying what the top comment says but modifying it a bit like you 😂

@@grufeeThey needed more time to train. In the clip, they didn’t even sing the right keys half the time and their vocal techniques needed plenty of work. If it was one or two minor slip ups then it would have been fine because even senior idols will accidentally sing off key if they’re having an off day. Having things like the charm and energy doesn’t do shit if you can’t do the one thing idols do, sing. The idol industry is a vicious industry and if they do not have the basics down, netizens WILL (and probably already had since this show’s been over for a while now) tear them apart for their lack of training, which has happened plenty of time. Having charm does not cut it, they need to train more and improve their techniques with singing and dancing before they can debut properly. While it is true that not everyone has the build or talent for singing, they’re literally training to professionally sing so they have to sing at least proficiently to not get eaten up in the oversaturated industry. These girls absolutely deserve better than to be subjected to humiliation because the audience basically set them up for failure but let’s be real here, they were not ready to debut in the group this show was for. Yeah, this show was for debuting a group soon after it was done. At the level they were at when this show was airing. Take that into consideration as well.
I watched this show at the time, and why Soyeon was so mad is because the group that auditioned before them, they were crazy talented, they played the piano, singing, dancing, charisma, all top notch, but neither of them fit the idol visuals - one had short hair and the other was chubbier than your average idol. And the netizens didn't give them any chance and just failed them (which meant that they couldn't participate in the show). So that's why Soyeon was especially mad, because they let go of the people with so much talent, and just clicked for these cute girls who put in little effort. If you're interested, the other girls' performance is definitely worth watching - you can youtube "Kang eunwoo & Song Yerim's River"
Those girls are freaking good, their performance is one of the best entry performances. And I think they didn't vote for them too because of their age which is ridiculous considering their insane talent
5:56 look at those little eyes, you can tell that everything that instructor is saying is going right into her heart, bless her. Kids that age benefit so much from nurturing and encouragement and I love that the instructor is taking the time to tell her her strong points and potential and also is a bit soothing.
Soyeon should be the standard for a mentor. 40 year old males w no survival show experience should not be judging kids. Theres a way to do it w warmth and diligence and make the trainees feel comfortable within their skill and be honest with them while not being rude about it.
@@YCHTT at that kind of situations you have to be super and brutally honest to them this is how its work if you are bad you are bad you can work more about it or you can drop off you have to have the mentality to resist it and keep going if that is your dream
@RinnieRinnie-he9wt yeah right. An old man bias a 14 year old girl is cringe. And what the judge said? He said he couldnt take his eyes off wonhee. I was like ewww.
So people who judged and prepared soyeon to debut should not have done it, cause lack of experience? Teachers don't have to be singers or dancers to judge. Jesus Christ.
True the only problem is money, because running a music company can cause you millions of money and it will be hard to get that money back since in the music industry everyone is incredibly competitive.
im sorry but soyeon is right, like leave their voices aside, they didnt even sing at the right time, sometimes they sang faster or slower than the track or mumbling the last letter, like that's the basics for singing
They have no sense of rhythm when it comes go singing, it was so odd, they were good dancers though, so they would be good as backup dancers. But not as performers in a K-Pop group. I don't know what made them think they should be part of this industry when they can't sing.
This was the moment that Soyeon gained respect from the whole k-pop world no matter which group or member is their bias. She was 100% correct and everyone knew it! The fact she was willing to speak with conviction as a young, female, k-pop idol herself on tv makes people respect her even more! 👏This belief plus her talent and ability as a rapper, writer, producer etc (again; no matter which group is our bias) has earned her the respect that she deserves! Well done - I wish she was running one of the companies!
The audience voted purposely to humiliate the girls. I feel bad for them, but I'm glad Soyeon called out the audience. She handled it so well! The girls clearly lacked by a lot and everyone was only making fun of them. Soyeon made sure to remind everyone to take this seriously because by joking around, more deserving talents lose opportunities.
Soyeon herself came from an idol survival show where despite her proving how talented she is, ranked 20th in the finals due to lack of votes from fans. I'm glad she outranked everyone from Produce 101 in real life.

"Furious" is a little bit clickbaity... but ok. Soyeon is one of the most talented idols in the industry. She isn't going to put her approval on a performance like that. Nobody else did either.
She had the right to be furious. Not at the girls, mind you - they are just kids chasing their dream - but at the adults who should know better than to enable them and put them in this position. If the doors stayed closed, the girls would have been sad, of course, but making them face the judges, who had to do their job and evaluate them, is unbelievably cruel. The adults in their lives who heard them and still supported them going on a survival program, and every single person who clicked that button, were responsible for their very public humiliation. Also, that girl said "we were perfect yesterday, but it's unfortunate we got a bit nervous in front of the trainers"... that is again a kind of delusion that some doubtless well-intentioned adult is responsible for. Someone should have at the very least told them "I think you should train a bit more before trying to compete on TV". The evaluators should have thought what would happen after they put them in front of the judges. I don't know if Soyeon actually was furious or not, I think she was trying very hard not to show it for the sake of the girls... but I know I for one was mad as hell when I watched that segment. Especially after Song Yerim and Kang Eunwoo killed their performance, and people refused to push the button for what I guess _looked like_ a fat girl and a delinquent, and completely ignored their obvious talent.
@@AmadanMath Ugh I still can't get over the fact that that these so-called evaluators didn't open the gate for Song Yerim and Kang Eunwoo. Soyeon was rejected so many times because people did not like her look. I mean, she looks great now probably because she learnt how to or got someone to do her makeup for her, but Soyeon has gone through the experience of getting hated on just based on your look. No matter how much your teacher said “Dont judge a book by its cover” they’ll always exist people (especially online) who will do just that.
It's more like Soyeon gets furious with the troll audience LOL.... The audience were just making it super humiliating for the two trainees & also forced the judges to be honestly brutal about their bad performance.
It's even worse when you see the full episode. The team before this were extremely talented and didn't get through because the audience didn't think they were conventionally pretty enough (they were both gorgeous). I think that's why Soyeon was REAL irritated. Rightfully so.
it upsets me too. the audience was like "vote for them because they are cute!!" not at all considering the fact that they're supposed to vote OBJECTIVELY and vote for those who actually show good performances. this was a mess and it does not make sense that the door would open for them. i also hope that trainees who appear on survival shows know how privileged they are to even appear. many trainees would die for an opportunity like this and i hope they know that and take advantage of the situation they're in.
That just proves many kpop fans (in Korea) like when their idols acts like 5 year old cough cough there’s a reason why aeygo still exists there. Anyway a class clown can give a better performance u have to be so delusional to think u sound good to even try and be in a survival show like how were they practicing and thinking wow I sound perfect LMAO 💀
You know the craziest part? That actually makes a case on why Produce 101 was rigged from seasons 2-4, they knew the average Korean dismiss the skill factor when it comes to idols and only care about their looks. That’s why SIXTEEN was a success and is lowkey the blueprint HYBE choose for R U Next, when you do everything in house with controlled interference from public you keep the people you want while building a fanbase for them with the exposure.

This is exactly why I love Soyeon. The audience should not have voted for them just because they know them, they pity them, or they think it’s “funny”. If those girls were to debut they would be a laughingstock, and they would be humiliated. Soyeon handled that like a boss, and instead of coming for the performers she addressed the situation with the audience and told them to be responsible in pressing the button because it is a privilege and you should pay attention to talent not visuals.
I think that Soyeon understands how much hard work goes into being a trainee and doesnt feel that pitying them will get them anywhere. Some people obviously felt bad for them so they clicked the button, but others may really have thought they were just cute. but that means nothing in the long run. Soyeon was right to put the audience in their place, because they also have a hand in making these idol's dreams come true, but they shouldnt delude them. There are so many people that work hard to get where they are, to disregard their hard work because they pity these girls is even more hurtful
She was even more mad though because just before that that same audience failed a group that was insanely talented, singinf, playing instruments, charisma. But they just didnt fit the korean beauty standarts. And then they passed these girls who where just cute. That was when she snapped.
That is so right it's not fair for the audience to pass them given the fact they sounded bad. It's not fair for trainees that did better. Hearing them on stage I can just tell they didn't really give in any effort. It sounded worst than their pactice.
We don't know if they didn't give any effort. I will say they did put in effort but were not ready for the survival show in the first place. They needed more training. I hope they are doing well now

I just remembered what xiumin said for being an idol even you are great in dancing but if your singing is worst it’s doesn’t look good because for the idol singing is the 1st priority but doesn’t mean you can dance anyhow dance also the important factor for an idol
yeah that's what i had observed before when i was watching pd and other survival shows. you can really tell who's bad at singing when they are performing than those who can't dance
The one thing that strikes me is that she never came across as angry at the girls themselves. She’s right to say that the audience needs to be accountable for who they vote for. Because whatever happens in the end, you cannot blame the girls themselves because they don’t get to vote who wins, that’s on us.
I can imagine what soyeon was feeling at that moment because my thoughts were the exact same - "just what is the audience thinking?" I imagine yuri was also baffled, coming from a company which treasures vocals the most
@i_am_unstoppable0109 That's exactly what I was wondering. We know what Soyeon was thinking, but I wonder what was going through Yuri's mind at that moment. She's been slammed by the public for being "untalented" for most of her career and now she had to witness the public supposedly support two girls that couldn't sing.
pls don't have hates on soyeon. She herself went thru all this as a trainee as well and she got lots of hate at that time due to her looks even though her stage performance was very well done. Nah, she's absolutely right. Especially about the fact that some other people didn't get to even be seen. These girls were off beat and clearly out of breath during most of the performance. They just were not ready, and I hope for the best for them, but to give them a better shot at passing than people who are less aesthetically pleasing is unfair and -as Soyeon was implying- irresponsible.
Everybody in the audience that pushed the button should feel ashamed. I got sick watching people laugh while voting, just to for the fun of it. I am so so so impressed with Soyeon, she remained calm and even tried to appeal to the audience. She is so amazing.
I completely agree with her she knows what it takes to be in the industry because she's in it and she's succeeding at it. Honestly their dancing wasn't bad and their facial expressions were good to me it seems like if they work on singing they will be in a much better position than currently. Also just have to add that Soyeon looks STUNNING!!
I love how they critique but also give them motivation. I don't see a lot of that in these survival shows and always feel bad for the contestants when they want to give up
Soyeon really made a point here ❤. The KPOP industry today is getting more broad and the standards are getting high. They really have to step up because they have to keep up with the industry's standards, they will be the future of this industry. ❤
I totally understand Soyeon, she is strict but it's for their best, if they don't perform well on stage and then debut they will be subject to humiliation and hate by netizens, it was better for them not to debut now and work on improving their skills. Soyeon is right for calling out the evaluation team. The two girls that went before these two girls were waaaay better, but sadly, the gate didn’t open which I was really shocked at because the last two girls’ voices and dances were extremely good, and they both played the piano really efficiently. It’s a shame the evaluation team picked the two girls in this video for just visuals and not talent like the other two last girls had.
I agree with soyeon right here, her opinion really saved these girls from further humiliation as well as telling the audience to not be wasting the judges time.

People with no talent debuting because of their visuals & cute appeal while those who don't have the same looks but are very talented are overlooked. Those girls' singing was just nope. Soyeon hit the nail on the head & she did it with such professionalism, honesty & warmth.

I respect Soyeon so much for that. And she has the talent and pedigree to back it all. Audience was simply biased or clueless.

"so that you won't feel bad." - considering even grown adults were sitting there laughing in their faces, I don't think anyone cared about making these girls feel bad.
I respect how SOYEON is always there to make sure the trainees know what they need to improve
Well said! Totally agree

She jus find it unfair for those potential trainee that didn't get the gate open for them 😭the audience are lowkey going for the looks ngl
Even this title is so misleading... It's more like Soyeon gets furious with the troll audience LOL.... The audience were just making it super humiliating for the two trainees & also forced the judges to be honestly brutal about their bad performance.
It's a reality TV show. Of course the judges have to be mean. Of course the title is clickbait.
facts right there@@YCHTT
Who knows? The girls might improve in the future and prove everyone wrong, nonetheless Soyeon is an excellent judge, we need more judges like her in the other survival shows.
It's more like Soyeon gets furious with the troll audience LOL.... The audience were just making it super humiliating for the two trainees & also forced the judges to be honestly brutal about their bad performance.
@@YCHTT Yes, I can see she is also mad with the people who voted.
@@chenles_defender No! She is mainly mad at the audience... were you not watching???
@@YCHTTShe was speechless and clearly upset even before the door was opened because of the fact that these girls even dared to come here when obviously knowing what's the matter here. And she cant help but say it when the door actually opened.
@@kun640I'm with her for that, those troll audiences want to see those poor girls humiliated some more by the judges
Soyeon is the perfect judge. Calls it how it is. Audience votes shouldn't even be a thing esp if they are going to be bias.
Soyeon... we need you in the Universe Ticket. PLEASEEEE
for
the judge did the right thing. if these two girls were to go on, the backlash they would get would be horrible.
She was so calm when the performance was like this
Awesome mentorship skills
need soyeon as an r u next judge
For real. If she was there, some of the contestants that are eliminated now would've still be in the show 💀
Replace moustache with her
its hard..bcoz soyeon will ruin what Hybe already decided..i believe Hybe already have choosen trainee
@@eyeblessing2166this! I don't watch the show bcs I'm sure this show is just a scenario from HYBE to introduce their new gg (with the-already-chosen-trainees)
Was about to comment the same thing. The judges there seems to already have their favourites
Soyeon should be the judge for all these survival shows….she is literally the best at this
she got done so dirty cos in produce season 1 she got to the finals but didnt debut bc the audience prefered the cute trainees despite her being 18 and extremely talented
this is exactly why fan voting shouldn't be a thing. these people vote for you if you're attractive and cute, not for your talents.
true
Nah fr
So proud of soyeon for that. Her face was literally what I was thinking
11:16 SUCH A QUEEN SPEAKING HER MIND!! 👑
If only Judges from R U Next were as honest and straight forward as Soyeon.
9:17 Yuri's confused face lmao. She like "We didn't debut with ITNW for this."
Soyeon was right, she wasn't harsh, she was honest and it wasn't the girls' fault, it was the public's fault.
I love soyeon's honest words. All judges need to learn from her specially all the r u next judges
Soyeon ❤️.
Producers know what the trainees need. I hope these kids improve day by day ❤️
Korean survival shows needs judges like Soyeon!!!
she is not really mad at the performers since its clear that their performance messed up, shes more angry at those who voted them as a joke
soyeon rlly doesnt deserve this hate infact she should act get praised for it many idles hold back she doesnt that makes her the ace and queen of the 4th gen
petition to put soyeon on every idol survival show!!!!!
For real, she's brutally honest that can put pretty and cute girls without talent in their right places
Soyeon is saying fact! Like bruh! If u want to be idol u need to show the skills ! Mad respect to Soyeon!
Still an iconic moment. You can even see how guilty the audience members looked because even they knew that the performance was bad but still voted anyway. They were setting these girls up for failure. All of the judges, not just Soyeon, were looking at each other wondering how they were going to break it to them…
Soyeon is a great judge, so professional. She said what reality the jurors should think
Soyeon REALLY placed audience in there right place good job!
Soyeon does put the visual behind and think about the ACTUAL TALENT❤❤
Soyeon needed to be on R U Rigged. She is extremely talented person as a judge even. She knows how to spot out mistakes without getting someone seriously offended. I loved how she pointed out the audience needed to be responsible with the button not the performers who were their TO BE JUDGED.
But Soyeon is a queencard. She doesnt care about what others think about her, she just says what she thinks, wow.
U never mess with a talented self made queen like Soyeon. She knew spot on, where the flaws where and whom to criticise.
we really need soyeon in the kpop industry
She is though
She is though 💀
I agree with soyeon right here, her opinion really saved these girls from further humiliation as well as telling the audience to not be wasting the judges time.
That was like a Kindergarten performance, where parents just cheer up for horrific performances.
Soyeon should be hired as audition judge for the future groups of hybe
😭😭😂Factss
Thank you for uploading the entire segment for this as I've been seeing a clipped out of context version.
Audience did these two girls dirty. The only reason the passed them was for amusement and ridicule, not talent. Soyeon's reaction towards the audience and the two girls' ability is justified. They needed more training, hopefully they stick with it.
I'm respect for Soyeon
Get double to triple today.! This is how a judge should be. No matter how much humble & kind she is as a judge she is be a outspoken & honest.
Soyeon really did a great job by pointing the voters mistake. Judge the consestant by a talent not by their face. Mad respect to Soyeon
Its not that Soyeon was frustrated with the girls but she was frustrated with the audience for voting for the girls when they clearly haven't had enough training and still need to practice. If those girls were to debut they would get a big load of hate due to them not being ready.
soyeon needs to put up his own company and its gonna be the biggest ever in kpop. girl has the knack for it!
