My mother in law made fried pies all the time. I was in Heaven when she made them. She always fried her pies in lard in an iron skillet. The crust turned pretty dark, but it didn't taste burned. That looks delicious. I think some chocolate glaze would be really tasty on these. I love Almond Joy and Mounds candy bars. I imagine the fried coconut pies with a drizzle of 🍫 glaze would have that 'candy bar' flavor.

As a kid I used to eat warm coconut pudding. My grandma would tell me I would get a belly ache eating that warm pudding. I would eat as much as she would let me.

When we were kids, my favorite pie was coconut cream, my brothers was banana cream, and we fought like cats and dogs over what pie to make one day, so my Gramma Lucy made a banana/ coconut cream combo hybrid pie, mainly to shut us up lol!!!!! Possibly the best pie ever!! I can’t wait to try these fried pies!!! And make some banana ones too lol😜!!!!

Hello from Oregon. It's funny, I was going to make some of these in the baked version. Actually bought coconut flavoring, and will use coconut milk. For fried pies, I'd like to make a crockpot of salsa verde pork for savory... onions on the bottom. But, I'll have to try some of these sweet ones fried, also. Looks good. Saturday here too, lol.

I love this recipe. Watching you make the coconut custard took me back yo my childhood. My Mama made coconut cream pies but never in a fried pie. You mentioned that you were not going to temper the eggs. My little Mama never in all her days tempered the eggs. She used to watch the cooking shows and she would say that it didn't make sense to do that tempering. She said it was a waste of time. Her way always worked for her. I never temper eggs either.
