Just made this pie and it is delicious! The key to getting your pudding to thicken, is to bring the heat up slowly so it thickens before it begins to boil. Works everytime! Hopefully I'll get the same look and kiss from my husband tonight!😁
Oh how I wish there was such a thing as taste-o-vision. That pie looks so delish. Thank You for pushing through today and giving us a wonderful recipe to try.
This is great. In our family recipe light brown sugar is for butterscotch, dark brown is for caramel. My great grandma used canned evaporated milk and made a short bread pressed crust. I love seeing the little differences. I've always made it in a double boiler, or it gets too thick on the bottom, too quickly, but maybe I should try again - the double boiler takes a long time. We always make these pies at Christmas, and the kids line up to lick the pan, just like Mr. Brown. :) It's soooo delicious!
I can't believe how easy it is to make Butterscotch filling. So many times I've craved pudding had all the ingredients and put boxed on my shopping list and went without! You are something else so is Mr. Brown! XOXO. Boy you lucked out on those lids!!! Feel better....😗
Times are wearing on the world right now, sorry Ms. Lori you are feeling off, a piece of that pie won’t hurt a bit. I saw my bowls at the shop. Take care and stay blessed.
Ms Lori, I moved to Kentucky 16 years ago and it was the first time I ever ate Butterscotch Pie. I fell in love with it. I found several recipes for it and tried each one but they just didnt cut it. THen I stumbled across your channel and have been watching yu for many months and suddenly there you were making a Butterscotch Pie. I grabbed a notepad and wrote down everything you said step by step. I knew that YOU KNEW what you were doing because ive tried some of your other recipes and they were amazing. Well let me tell you that I made the Butterscotch pie this morning and was able to taste is this afternoon and OHHHHHHHHHHH my my it was like heaven in my mouth. I took two photos of it but dont know how to attach here so you can see the height and the lovely brown on the meringue. Thank you thank you thank you. The next thing Im making is the Tamale Pie and then The Tamales for the holidays to surprise my Daughter and her husband.
As soon as the video started, I knew you weren’t feeling 100%. You just don’t turn being an RN off. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Hope you feel better.
This reminds me of my childhood. I had an aunt who was baking something all the time and butterscotch pie was one of them. Boy was it ever good. I sure miss her. After watching your video I will have to make a butterscotch pie . Thanks for helping me to remember her.
Lol, loved seeing you folks tool! Am gonna try making the pie. Looks yummy. Also your outing ...walleye and the treasure store looked like so much fun. That kind of day feels like a vacation. Stay safe and keep the vids coming. Love your channel.................................
I love watching your recipes and knowledge about gardening, I use to watch a lot of youtube but I realized how unproductive it was to watch people cleaning, I know how to clean, and I was wasting the time that I should be cleaning. It's nice to watch something useful after I do my chores and I love the help teaching people how to cook food they might not know how and especially the help on knowing how to plant and grow, my grandparents tried to tell us stuff but I've long forgotten but y'all have that knowledge and I'm so glad y'all pass it on! I love the authenticity!!!
Note: the difference between butterscotch and caramel is the sugar…now I know why my sauce was always a bit different. Caramel uses white sugar and butterscotch uses brown sugar. I used these sugars interchangeably in my recipes depending on how much brown sugar I had on hand. Sometimes I’d even use both to save my sugars.😎🥰Thanks for the recipe demo…
Thanks for spoiling Mr. Brown with that gorgeous butterscotch pie. He is so good to you. Hope you are feeling a little more perky. We all have those kind of days. You two are loved beyond measure. God Bless from Texas. 🤗
It's funny how my tastes have changed over the years. I love butterscotch and will be trying your recipe with homemade whipped topping. I'd say you got some good finds at that flea market. Happy Canning🍅🌽🍑🍐
I've been searching for a southern butterscotch pie recipe! This looks like one my grandmother used to make! Thank you for the recipe! I hope you feel better soon!
Good morning Lori. I wanted to tell you that when I saw your video where you were using shelf stable dry milk from Houser Hill Farm I thought that was a really smart way to keep dairy products in dry form. I went to the site and I was blown away at how many cooking items I could get in powdered form. I just received 6 different products today. Like sour cream, buttermilk, whole milk, buttermilk, parmesan cheese and heavy cream. These are all products I cook with regularly. This is really going to save me room in my refrigerator. Thank you so much for your suggestion.
I also love drinking buttermilk especially with cornbread. I live to make homemade buttermilk pancakes and buttermilk biscuits so I go through a lot of buttermilk.
I freeze my buttermilk in muffin tins then put in baggies BUT - I am always needing heavy cream or sour cream and live way too far out to run to the store so thanks for the heads up on that!
Chay, that's a good idea too. You will be surprised how many things that are dry mixes and shelf stable so you always have it. They have crystal honey.
Hunny, any man who loves butter scotch is a man who wins my heart. Also hun, you so make me wish there was such a thing as smell o vision. Love your video's. You make me think of good times of sitting with family over a good HOME cooked meal, on Sundays with great family & friends. Thank You for those wonderful memories.
I have my great grandmother’s Secretary Desk. She passed when I was 16, at the whopping age of 3 days shy of 100. I loved her so much. I used to go stay with her on weekends and the bottom drawer in that Secretary Desk was for my coloring books and Chinese Checkers, which she and I would play together. That desk was a wedding gift to her, so it is well over 100 years old now, and I love it, and I cherish those memories of my time with her.
Oh my! This looks amazing Mrs Brown! I have to make this one for sure! We love butterscotch in this house! Well, as soon as my brand new oven gets fixed! Ugh! Mother board isn’t working. Over a month without an oven is kinda difficult when I binge watching YOUR videos! 😂 Im just grateful that the stove top works! I love your canning lid find! You sure are blessed Ms Lori to have that sweet man who loves you so much! Your pie looks very nice and good! And reminds me of my dear sister, my baby sister and left to be with the Lord in 2003. She was much more picky than I but she loved some Butterscotch pie! And our Mama made a wonderful meringue! Such a great cabin and your furnishings are so remembrance of the good ole days. Blessings!
Miss Lori, I too dump everything in to cook, but I no longer cook it on my stove. Everything goes into a microwave safe bowl and I microwave it, stirring every couple of minutes. When done add the butter and vanilla. Much easier. I use ecaporated milk too. Have a great week. Grandma Sue in central Indiana and Izzi Too
I do what Marilyn does too, no scorching. Stir with a whisk, cook 2 min at first, maybe 2 more min then 30 seconds several times stirring between cooking times.
I started doing that years ago when my Heath toffee recipe had microwave instructions, gradually progressed to using it for my coconut cream pie and other custards. You really have to be careful those last few times...once I wound up with the sweetest, fluffiest scrambled eggs ever! 🙄😉😬
It’s never hard to find the pudding!!! It’s always in your pantry, you just need to combine the ingredients yourself and cook it yourself and you’ll always have a butterscotch pudding that will be tenfold better than any box mix you’ll ever make. You only save 5 minutes or so by getting a box mix and you’ll always be able to tell it’s a box mix instead of making homemade. Enjoy!!
My family is from Arkansas. When I hear you talk, it is like hearing women from my family. Such a lovely accent you have. It strikes chords in my memory and my heart.
I’m originally from Missouri. My grandmother and mother made this pie. I live in Texas now and just want you to know that the people down here, that are from here, don’t do a meringue pie. They put Whipped cream or Cool Whip on the top. That’s OK, but it is not meringue! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Butterscotch pie. In fact, it is my favorite next to a coconut cream pie. Yes, put that cream in there. I wish I was there with you. It is hard for me to watch, as I have tears in my eyes. I had to go vegan due to really bad health reasons, and I REALLY miss cream pies. 😢 Is there anything better than a good cream pie with meringue, especially butterscotch? Congratulations on your cookbook. I want it so badly. We love you all! 😍
I live in Texas, so do several of my relatives and we make pies with meringue all the time, in fact I frequently make butterscotch pie, using dark brown sugar, and when I have someone that dislikes meringue I tell them they can put that on my plate and I’ll give them the whipping cream. When I was a teenager my boyfriend was over and my Mom had made pies and she said I could invite a couple of friends over for pie too, one of those friends was my bf’s brother, soooooo as we’re eating bf is eating the pie with the meringue and his brother called him out saying why are you eating calf slobbers, you don’t eat them when momma makes pies, of course he turned beet red and all the rest of us had a big ol’ laugh. If you shop at TomThumb, a friend told me that they occasionally have Tippin’s pies, they may have pies with meringue, Tippins used to be a restaurant with delicious pies, both with and without meringue. 🤗
ugh whipped creme or cool whip ICK ! some of us here (IM FROM SE MO ) GIVE me my meringue but i confess i eat the pudding when i can find it so to the 7/11 for the candy instead // hello i live in S E Texas
I’m flummoxed by your comment, I was born and raised in Texas, did live in California for awhile, but every female in my large extended family made cream pies with meringue, my daughter in law who is from California prefers whipped cream, but will eat meringue, me being just one person certainly can’t speak for every Texas pie baker, but every slice of cream pie I’ve had in my 79 years has had meringue. Seems like the cream pie would look naked without it!🤗 I love butterscotch pies, love coconut, had a slice of that for dessert when I recently celebrated my birthday, but my favorite pie is German Chocolate. In case anyone would like to make one, it’s very simple, just use your favorite chocolate pie recipe, and around a minute before you think it’ll be time to remove the pudding from the heat add a cup of coconut and 3/4 to a cup of chopped pecans, top with meringue. I first had this pie while living in Cali at a Marie Calendars restaurant, after moving back to Texas I searched and searched for a recipe for German Chocolate pie to no avail, finally decided to use my Mom’s recipe for chocolate pie and add the coconut and pecans and it worked perfectly. Hope someone will give it a try and love it as much as I do. Now I think I’m going to go make a pie. 🤗🤗🤗

I really enjoy you two. You are an inspiration. At age 73, we're empty nesters as well. Thanks.
I can't believe how easy it is to make Butterscotch filling. So many times I've craved pudding had all the ingredients and put boxed on my shopping list and went without! You are something else so is Mr. Brown! XOXO. Boy you lucked out on those lids!!! Feel better....😗
My mom used to make the best pies - butterscotch, chocolate, lemon - you name it, she made it! And wish I had one right now!!!
The next thing Im making is the Tamale Pie and then The Tamales for the holidays to surprise my Daughter and her husband.
oh Leona thank you, that makes me sooooo Happy!

As soon as the video started, I knew you weren’t feeling 100%. You just don’t turn being an RN off. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Hope you feel better.
I'm a country girl born and bred and proud of it and I am so glad I ran across your videos. Much love out to you.
Butterscotch pie was my daddy's favorite. Thank you Ms Lori for bringing back beautiful memories of my daddy. Sending love from Ky
This reminds me of my childhood. I had an aunt who was baking something all the time and butterscotch pie was one of them. Boy was it ever good. I sure miss her. After watching your video I will have to make a butterscotch pie . Thanks for helping me to remember her.
That pie looks amazing! Great finds today, thank you for sharing with us Lori!
I love Butterscotch, I love the old rocker and some great finds at the flea market..Thank you for sharing, Blessing to you Lori and Mr. Brown
Love how you two love each other,, you’re such an inspiration in many ways to people!
Happy Grandparents Day!!!! Being a grandparent is fun!!!
My, what a pie! Can’t wait to make this one. Hope you’re feeling better, Miss Lori.
Lol, loved seeing you folks tool! Am gonna try making the pie. Looks yummy. Also your outing ...walleye and the treasure store looked like so much fun. That kind of day feels like a vacation. Stay safe and keep the vids coming. Love your channel.................................
Thank you Robin, xoxoxo
I love everything about your channel warms my heart. This recipe I am going to try. Thanks
This is the recipe of my granny made back in the '40s, 50s, and '60s.!! No one was allowed to make it but her until after her pasting. So delicious!!
I'm sorry you're not feeling great but your hair looks beautiful!
Thank you, im better, xoxoxo
I love watching your recipes and knowledge about gardening, I use to watch a lot of youtube but I realized how unproductive it was to watch people cleaning, I know how to clean, and I was wasting the time that I should be cleaning. It's nice to watch something useful after I do my chores and I love the help teaching people how to cook food they might not know how and especially the help on knowing how to plant and grow, my grandparents tried to tell us stuff but I've long forgotten but y'all have that knowledge and I'm so glad y'all pass it on! I love the authenticity!!!
Thank you Jane, xoxoxo
Thank you Sweetie, im feeling a little better, xoxoxo
It's funny how my tastes have changed over the years. I love butterscotch and will be trying your recipe with homemade whipped topping. I'd say you got some good finds at that flea market. Happy Canning🍅🌽🍑🍐
I've been searching for a southern butterscotch pie recipe! This looks like one my grandmother used to make! Thank you for the recipe! I hope you feel better soon!
Thank you Patricia
Good morning Lori. I wanted to tell you that when I saw your video where you were using shelf stable dry milk from Houser Hill Farm I thought that was a really smart way to keep dairy products in dry form. I went to the site and I was blown away at how many cooking items I could get in powdered form. I just received 6 different products today. Like sour cream, buttermilk, whole milk, buttermilk, parmesan cheese and heavy cream. These are all products I cook with regularly. This is really going to save me room in my refrigerator. Thank you so much for your suggestion.
I've been keeping the powdered buttermilk...I have a bad habit of drinking all of my buttermilk that was intended for cooking and baking! 🤭
I also love drinking buttermilk especially with cornbread. I live to make homemade buttermilk pancakes and buttermilk biscuits so I go through a lot of buttermilk.
@@lavernaturner4757 It's a bi-weekly staple on my grocery list!
Ok made this for tonight's dessert. Haven't cut the pie but Lord have Mercy scraping the bowl. It is so good. Definitely going in my box of favorites.
Hope you enjoyed it.
I’m beginning to understand that when you say “road trip” you’re going on a find.
Pie looks devious. Rock on...
I have a bunch of really old ones that are still as good as the day they were first made! Hey, you should meet us at that huge flea market in AR if you can make it. Im not sure when it is, I think it just past. But next time? We’d love to see you!
We’re setting up our desk, so I can finally email you! Have a blessed night sweets!
Oh yes, we need to plan something this fall maybe
That looks sooo good! Your collection of cookbooks is so interesting. I LOVE to read cookbooks! If you make any recipes from your new slow cooker cookbook please share with us! Take care and God bless you both!🙏❤
You are the first to call itcat slobbers, my late husband always said that and I thought he made it up. 😍 love you both.
That is what I have always called it. Lol I don't like meringue but my husband does.
Sugar free subs. Swerve has a brown sugar, powdered sugar and regular sugar blend. They are all sugar free, the brand is Swerve. Pretty good too!
Pie ,Pie, I love Pie . There's nothing sweeter to my eyes than one of Miss Lorie's butterscotch pies. Be excellent to one another and cherish your life together. ❤🥧
My mama's favorite pie! Love to the Browns! Feel better real soon, Miss Lori.
I'm 73 and my Gramma made butterscotch pie&my mother made me one every year for my birthday.Love it,Love it! I have their recipe but I'm going to try yours with the cornstarch.Thank you & hubby for all your videos!
I haven't had one of these since I was a little kid. Oh, that looks yummy!!!
Grandma Sue in central Indiana and Izzi Too
Exactly what I do and no extra dishes and no lumps. The evaporated milk just adds more flavor.
Awesome...Thanks for sharing!💞
You’ve been watching Collard Valley Cooks, haven’t you? It does work great! ♥️🥰
Oh, that looks so good.
Wow, that is my favorite. Never hear anyone talk about it anymore. Hard to find the pudding sometimes.
Enjoy!!
Yes you can make it at home, tend to forget that.
My family is from Arkansas. When I hear you talk, it is like hearing women from my family. Such a lovely accent you have. It strikes chords in my memory and my heart.
Been watching for this one! 😋
Love that measuring cup! The red speckled one❤️ thank you again for another great video...
When I was a teenager my boyfriend was over and my Mom had made pies and she said I could invite a couple of friends over for pie too,
one of those friends was my bf’s brother, soooooo as we’re eating bf is eating the pie with the meringue and his brother called him out saying
why are you eating calf slobbers, you don’t eat them when momma makes pies, of course he turned beet red and all the rest of us had a big ol’
laugh.
I'm so sorry about your Health issues,
Prayers for healing, xoxoxo
@@lolaottinger6976 Well, I might have know I’d already commented on this video a year ago, and on the anniversary (I’m guessing here) of that post, I’ve posted again! 😂😂😂😂
When you were saying you weren't your usual self,I was just thinking she is always smiling. Thanks for the recipe I am going to make this for my husband!!! I love the old ways!
It makes such a difference to actually see what you’re describing. This is our Son’s favorite and, thanks to you, I can now fix it for him👍💞
1983 was when the Ball Bluebook was printed. I use old lids as long as the seal looks good. The pie looks delicious!
