Very helpful as usual. i was a bit confused about the mixture of the soil you added after the akadama was placed. It looked like an akadama-intense mix as opposed to with more loam and sand. Maybe next time make a comment about that. Thx!
New to bonsai. Thank you so much for sharing your work! I'm learning a lot and really appreciate your videos. I rely on your information to help further my skills
Happens alot of time with my newly bought juniper. Good to know its because of the roots. And also if i may ask, how and where is the ideal location, direct sunlight or shaded after repotting?
I've got a big juniper still in the nursery pot. I'm so afraid to take the roots. I want to but it's hard to know when. Seasons don't really work like they use to.
Hello. Thank you for you inspiring videos ! I have a little question if i may. If the tree have long roots that can be easly fit into the jar, do i still need to cut them in order to plant them? Greetings, Oded
@@easternleaf Right, even I could recognize that soil was crap. One more question: when do you start worrying about the wire cutting in? That seems like a long time.
@@BostonBonsaiIdiot It depends on the the species of Juniper and the season. Since we just came out of winter, not much happened during that time. So 9 months isn't too long but had I put the wire on during the spring, i would have to check it after a few months. Hope this helps!
Hi Jason I have repotted my F. panda few days one week before the way you did. I have repotted with same soil in addition with fresh fertilizer and gravel. I also have done root pruning. While repotting i ve place one big stone below with intension to grow roots radially. I also wire branches to give shape. Now branches are dried of. Could you please help me to understand, where did I made mistake? and could u plz guide me to recover my plant. Regards Krunal
Hi Krunal, We try to avoid using fertilizer during a repot, especially one that stresses the root ball a lot. There is a high chance of burning your foliage. We like to wait for the tree to establish itself fully before continuing with a fertilizer schedule. Hope this helps!
Your efforts likely saved that tree! Now it can thrive. Since it was struggling why not dip the roots in water to remove all the mud and give it a full fresh start in your new bonsai soil?
Hi Mark. Good question! We try to not remove the beneficial bacteria and soil microbes that aid in the providing nutrients to the tree. We also want to put the least amount of stress on the root ball and maintain some of the original soil in its place.
I'm new to bonsai so I have a potentially stupid question. Why don't you just rinse the roots off under water to remove the dirt? It seems like that would be a much more gentle method.
Good question! The short answer is beneficial bacteria and soil microbes. We also want to put the least amount of stress on the root ball as well. Hope this helps!
I just finished watching the stylist of this tree now I get a new update ..nice👌🏿
good job...🙏🙏🙏
There isn't many videos online of junipers being repotted so this was great to see. Thanks
@Robert Johnson how do you know that?

Hands down best bonsai channel. Always great work Jason.

Hi if you are repotting any of your bonsai use a little sphagnum moss
Good to see it didn't die 👍
Should I place my new repot Juniper on Full sunlight or on the shaded area?

How old should a juniper bonsai be before training it? When is it too old to train?
How's this one doing? @EasternLeaf
any update one this tree? do you still have it or did you sell it ??? thank you
How long has the wire been on there? I’ve lost track.
Looks like about 9 months now. We didn’t get the rigorous growth because of the soil but it’s growing faster now so it’s time to remove it.

@@easternleaf got it. Done mistake already. What would u suggest me to do next?
I got my first bonsai tree this past mother's day. It's a juniper. I'm so nervous about this wiring and training thing.
Hey don't worry about it, as long as you keep it watered and fed properly the branches/foliage will always grow back :p
Is that juniper from cutting or seed??
Hi. This tree was likely originally from a cutting quite some time ago. Thanks for watching!
Your efforts likely saved that tree! Now it can thrive.
Since it was struggling why not dip the roots in water to remove all the mud and give it a full fresh start in your new bonsai soil?
Agreed. I would have gotten the hose and with a gentle stream remove that mucky soil too.

Why was the tree placed in that horrible soil to begin with? Tree came out great!
I am from India...🙏🙏🌴🌴
I wonder what kind of juniper that one is... beautiful though! Awesome job! Thank you.👏👏👏

@@easternleaf it does, I'm actually repotting my juniper for the first time today. Thank you for the help and your channel!
Those pots are too big for that tree! Dont think any of them work really...cool tree though.
Both pots were far too big for that little skinny tree
