This video was one of the most helpful videos I've seen so far in making me understand what I'm looking for starting off with a new tree. Thank you so much!

Ha ha I knew you were going to wire the tree. You could tell you were itching to do so all the way through. Great content as always.

You are an artist and have a gift for educating. Loved the segment at the end, when the producers let you off the leash, to go ahead with the wiring!

This could have been a great video. Unfortunately I felt as if you were driven by a pack of wolves. Obviously you knew what you were doing. However, stating the video be for beginners, there was a lot of getting rid of „this one“ and the next second some little branch flew off. Which one? You may have seen it from your perspective, but the viewer didn‘t. Please don‘t misunderstand me, I enjoy your videos! Take it as constructive criticism. This one was just a bit too fast and not always clear to visually understand / grasp your moves.

🌴🌳👍🐨 sometimes I use wire as a tie-down. a loop from a branch to branch. to see how it is going .then if ok I wire the branches. save time . and can adjust easy as you go. Keith Australia

I am growing my 1st Japanese Black Pine Bonsai Tree and Honestly I am scared that I might mess my Bonsai Tree up with not knowing which branches to clip and where to clip very much like Daniel-san in The Original The Karate Kid was when he was afraid that he would mess up Mr. Miyagi's Bonsai Trees.
I just remember that Mr. Miyagi told Daniel-san, "Close eyes. Make picture of perfect Bonsai. Open eyes. Make Bonsai like picture.
I know that it sounds like a cliche... but I am scared that I might ruin my Bonsai when it grows

First thank you for the video. Very well thought out and executed.
I am brand new to this hobby. Everyone seems to agree that potting soil is out. No matter the pot or size of the tree.
But I have to ask why is the small trees from the large lumber stores and greenhouses and other places, always come in potting soil and doing very well? Including the tree in your video. It seems to me that at least a mix of potting soil might help to accumulate the tree during repotting, or the shock of first pruning.
But really these pine trees grow fine in regular soil, so what makes shaping into a bonsi cause them to not be able to use miracle grow soil and fertilizer for that matter? Thank you!

Nice clear instructions thank you for the inspiration. Dude just a little bit of feedback, when you’re asking us to look at a particular part of the plant you continue to stare down the camera which causes me to feel distracted. My suggestion is you look where you want us to look.

You should never trim a bonsai tree by pulling branches off with your fingers. Always use very sharp scissors/pruning sheers.

Another solid reason to eliminate "pocket branches": in nature they generally die out, you will rarely see a branch in that position in a mature tree.

I gasped when he cut that branch off! I'm new to bonsai so I am too scared to really cut back that far. How do you gauge what is "too far"? Obviously the tree still needs foliage for photorespiration, but how do you know that you've got enough left? Besides the obvious answer: it dies.

    • @noelceballos8684

I gasped too! That was so much foliage gone! My bonsai has had very minimal pruning. I love watching him grow on his own. I took him to a bonsai expert to teach me how to repot him and he just kept saying how healthy and beautiful he was! I was so proud. I’m too scared to chop a branch off
