Great Video, Those of us that live in the North Island feel rather neglected at times:) if you ever come again the north Island has just as much beauty as the south Island, from the beautiful planes of the central north Island , the west coast especially 90 mile beach is as names sake 90 miles with much of it black iron sand to the thousands of year old Kauri forests in the upper north Island..A videographers Paradise
Thanks! 😄 And yeah I'll definitely return to NZ one day and see the North Island too! The reason we chose the South is because it was our first holiday together, and she had already been to the North Island before, whereas I'd never been to either, so we chose the one that would be a new experience for both of us. But we already want to go back, and will explore as much of your beautiful country as we can, North Island included! Besides, I'm a big Lord of the Rings fan, so I definitely need to visit Hobbiton and Mount Doom. And everything you described sounds amazing, can't wait to see it one day!
This is so so so beautiful !!! Love the M83 music, so fitting for South Island. I remember playing Outro in the car as we were driving in Glenorchy. Your cinematography is insane 😍😍😍
Thanks so much Sophia! 😊I'm glad you appreciate the music, and were able to personally experience the grandeur of the NZ landscapes while listening to it! Right from the moment I decided to do a highlights video of the trip, I knew exactly which two songs I wanted to use. Those songs give me goosebumps! Thanks again for your support and kind words! 😀
Great video. Well done 👏👏 how easy did you find it getting the permits to fly your drone? We are there soon and it seems like it’s really tricky to get the ok to fly.
Thanks! 😄 To get the permits it involved a lot of emailing. Since you have to pay the processing fee (per region that you apply for) regardless of whether or not the application is approved, it's best to check with them first about any locations you have in mind that aren't on their list of recommended locations. Thankfully, though, they won't reject an entire application if it has a rejected location in it, they'll simply approve or reject each location you apply for. And they seemed to have a "Pre-Application Meeting" as a required step of the process, which to achieve from offshore meant just contacting various people from different regions via email, and then listing them in the application. But this is a good opportunity to ask, before applying, whether or not your preferred locations are likely to be approved. In general, they don't approve locations that aren't already in their 'recommended' lists, but it doesn't hurt to ask about anywhere you want to fly, because for the most part they are very helpful, and a couple of people I dealt with were incredibly friendly and super helpful in trying to find alternatives for me that were similar to the locations I was after, and even did some of the corresponding with other regions on my behalf. Also bear in mind that this is all only relevant to the Department of Conservation, who process applications for drone flying in National Parks and other areas under their jurisdiction. If any of the locations you want to fly in fall outside of a National Park, Conservation Area or other DoC-managed land, you'd have to check with the relevant District Council. Most have information on their websites about their rules; some state a blanket approval and no need to apply for any permits, and others require that you do. So again, best to look into it and to contact relevant districts via email if necessary. Since all of this requires a lot of correspondence, and they can be a bit hit-and-miss with their response times, it's best to start emailing and applying with plenty of time before you plan on leaving. But all in all, despite all the emailing, and even if it was mostly just their recommended locations, I'm still so glad that I did it and was able to get some amazing footage that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to get. The landscapes there are so stunning, it's definitely worth it! But even drone or no drone, I'm sure you'll have an amazing time - it's an absolutely beautiful country! I hope this information helps, and safe travels 🙂
@@victorgecko thanks for your very informative reply. I’m just reading the DOC website at the moment. Are you able to say what locations on the South Island your were able to get permission from. It might gives a head start. Many thanks again. We’re so excited to begin our road trip over there. 😊
@@TediousPicturesUK You're welcome, happy to help! They were mostly from the recommended lists in the end, but they did approve my request for Lindis Pass (though I definitely made sure to email and ask first before submitting the application), and they did provide a few alternatives to my requested locations which don't seem to appear on the standard lists in the forms, like Kettle Holes Track. And I'm sure that based on your proposed locations, or if you were to ask for similar alternative options, they'd be happy to oblige and offer some places with similar features or landmarks. In any case, I'm sure you'll get some epic shots!
This is super touching and so well shot and edited. What a beautiful country.
Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words! And I couldn't agree more - it's an absolutely stunning place. I can't wait to go back
thank you so much for your comment
