Great video. I really like the fact that your clip is 100% useful information. Unlike most of the other South Island travelogues, which in large part consist of driving from place to place or, even more annoying, spending time in restaurants. So thanks again.
Great video. I will plan a trip to the south island in winter 2023. Just my 2 cents for 2:00, the point of night sky is where you have less people, you have better sky. Almost everywhere outside towns and airports in the south island have perfect night sky (grade 1, i.e. no light pollution) so you don't have to worry where to do your astrophotography! Actually the town "Lake Tekapo" itself is grade 2 because of human activities. If you drive a few km outside the town then you get grade 1.
Great video. Just a small tip from a local - your road-travel times were a bit underestimated. If you were driving a Lambo - yes, okay. In a campervan or an ordinary car, I would recommend adding about an hour to every leg.
Great video Jimmy. Yes, Tekapo was the least correctly pronounced place name but never mind. For the tourists coming back here after the Covid shutdown, I think your stated travel times between the places shown are too short. If you had a fast car (rather than a campervan), they would be achievable but I would recommend adding at least 20% more time to each leg of the trip. Apart from the scenery, the road conditions and the speed of slower vehicles should be kept in mind. And a flock of sheep on the road can happen.
jimmy just done your trip at 77yrs old but I did it! So many many thanks it was just awesome. cardoma hotel having a makeover! You missed out Arrowtown that was my favourite. Save time by flying into Milford sound a boat trip and then flew back cuts out the long drive from Queenstown and gives you a magic view of the mountains. Did helicopter ride up to Frank Joseph Taking this week in Auckland to recover after a great adventure Thanks for all the advice
Thank you so much for getting back to me and what a great time you had! It’s put a huge smile on my face that yourself followed a few of my tips and it worked out amazing for you! Age doesn’t matter when it comes to these adventures, if anything, I applaud you and a true inspiration for when I’m that age too! 🤘
Thank you so much for this video! I'm planning my next trip to NZ. I wish you could show us a map of your journey across the south island with all the main destinations highlighted.
I remember doing a very similar road trip last year but I did it anti-clockwise. It's crazy that you packed all those activities and walks into 10 days. Great video!
My 2nd oldest daughter is going to school on the North Island for a semester, and she’s taking a “winter” break on the South Island and driving an RV w her friends. I sent your video to her.
wanted to make a trip to visit South Island, NZ in 2020 but then the pandemic happened.. recently started to revisit my plans and this vid was really helpful!
Excellent work!! my husband and I are going to South island for 13days.we wanted to do similar to what you did. should we hire a car+hotel or hire a camper van which park ing spot might be a pain? Please recommend.TIA
Hi Jimmy, very beautiful video and informative, am thinking to do Queenstown , Te Anau/Milford Sound, Wanaka, Lake Tekapo to Chirstchurch, would that be do idea?
Don’t be sorry about the pronunciation! It’s difficult for non Kiwi! And some Kiwi. You tried and didn’t do too bad ! Thank you for trying :) the one thing I would recommend is the top of the South Island. It’s a tropical paradise! :)
@@jimmygrant166 :) Come back, we love people visiting and to share what we have here. It’s always such a buzz to see peoples faces light up when they see the beauty of this place and to see them start to unwind and relax into our less frantic pace of life. See you again one day soon. :)
Planning for a 11 day trip to NZ South Island some time in August and chanced upon your video. In this video, were you just taking 1 night stops most of the time? Also, do you just spend about 3hours per "attraction"? It'll be our first time in NZ and we were concerned about things being too rushed if we attempt a round trip like yours
This could be easily a 100k Banger if you had a hot girl to support the video :D Mad Props for everything! one of my favorite videos of all time, seriously!
Looking at Google maps there is a good chance I did although I can't remember as I think I drove through Cardrona on the way to Queenstown and back. But I really can't remember! I'll be sure to drive through it the next time I visit. And thanks for the kind words 🤘
Thank you for the kind words 🤘. I travelled at the end of August into the beginning of September. I was very lucky with the beautiful weather and if you want to go where not many people are around, that is certainly the best time to go!
Thank you for the kind words! 🤘. I'm currently back in the UK due to the pandemic, but if you haven't caught my other New Zealand videos, check out this playlist, there's a good few ones on there New Zealand Adventures: th-cam.com/play/PLxz7mACkM4miI9iQwkc5jnrWcas_0JmK3.html

Your a cool dude u didn't deserve it. Hope you return. Peace and Gratitude to you and your family. 👍🇳🇿 NZ
New Zealand certainly is an amazing country with beautiful scenery and awesome people and can't wait to visit again! Unfortunately you come across bad people wherever you go but I won't let it get me down!
as a kiwi yes it's beautiful but I want to see something different on my holiday it's boring to me....so if anyone in a god forsaken hell hole has a bed and breakfast hit me up.
John 3.16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

How’s the electric vehicle market doing in NZ; and is there an increasing number of charging stations throughout the country?
That, I am not sure of. When I was there just before lockdown, I didn’t see many around at all.
Hey Jimmy! Curious to know which month did you travel?
Best country in the world, it has its ups and downs ,but great people
Great video! ☺️

It’s all about safety. As long as you’re prepared such as having snow chains and follow the road laws, you’re all good to go!
