Sure, we all love the first Mass Effect. Did a lot of things right despite graphics not holding up to today’s standards. Also spawned a huge cult following (myself included) to the games. Probably has dropped off a little over the years due to the “kinda” failure of Andromeda. Personally, I love the trilogy as a whole. All has its faults, but were real gems and are no doubt my most played video game series of all time. Mass Effect 2 is without a doubt my favourite, reminding me of a Empire Strikes Back vibe to it. Arguably the darkest of the series too. There will be those who disagree, but to me, Mass Effect 2 is a solid 10/10 for me. The first Mass Effect comes second with a 9/10 and the third because of its well known problems with the game and story, it’s 8/10 for me.
I just finished ME1 again to get a save, and now I'm halfway through ME2 again. Good times; such a great game; I never thought that back when I first played ME2 that I would start, fresh in the series with the best game. The only thing that disappoints me with ME2, is that my babe isn't on the Normandy for just this game 😭, but she's busy I know, and she has the best mass effect DLC made to date, so it's a trade off.
Memorable yes. Well fleshed out? No, and they weren't in the first game either. To take one example: in order to get some kind of relationship going with Jack, you need to be male, and the relationship is a highway to romance; no male/female friendship there. If you play a female Shepard, Jack becomes just as useless as a conversation partner as Garrus is to a male Shepard with his damn calibrations.
HEY! The vanguard's charge is not useless, it recharges your shields, although it does not do a lot of damage on enemies it's a good way to get out of areas overwhelmed by enemies and a good way to heal.
yeah I'm actually quite good with it, ironically I only die when I stay in cover and I just blaze through everything with a vanguard charge shotgun combo.
It's op, i would say it's impossible to die as a vanguard when it's maxed out. To the point where i would say that people who have only completed the max difficulty as a vanguard, haven't actually because vanguard makes it so easy. It takes time, but there's no skill or challenge in doing so.
Michael Jackson lookalike? That's Yvonne Strahovski with black hair we're talking about here! (If you didn't know, Miranda's the only character besides Joker that looks like their respective voice actors).
***** 3 was basically a continuation of the ME2 formula. It was good, but not as magical as 2. The multiplayer was a fun addition, at least for a couple of months. Plus, I never had the honor of playing a game that ended with more questions than could possibly be answered.
+CPapadakis That he did, because she kinda does look like a female Micheal Jackson, at least her in-game model does anyway (and also because I'm the one who suggested that joke. XD)
@@AussieNinja49 Her face looks like a smushed up duck. It'd be fine if her literal background didnt say that she is genetically made to be perfect. You're welcome to try. I just get a white box where the video is supposed to be when I follow the link. I think it's because the video player that most of the thatguywiththeglasses reviewers used to use went defunct a while ago.
Mass Effect movie is a terrible, terrible idea. You have two Shepards, male and female, but you can only have one in the movie. Half of the audience is bound to be disappointed. I hope that never happens, unless the Shepard is female.
Azariachan It's a majority of men who play Mass Effect, seriously it's around 90%. and who gives a fuck if it's a man or woman anyway? All that matters is if they have the look and aura you would associate Shepard with. Either gender.
Azariachan I agreed with you up your last sentence, but nevermind that, because you have more problems with a Mass Effect movie: It will set a canon. There is no canon Shepard, male or female (there are however default Shepard player characters, which is just how Shepard looks). Each player will have their own point of view of Shepard, based on their own playthrough, and a movie can't nail that. Which brings me back to this canon thing. The canon for my Mass Effect is the Shepard I played and how my story was told. The canon for your Shepard is the Shepard you played and how your story unfold. A movie would take all that and throw it in the trash, and that's only accounting for actual ingame events and choices - then you have producers with sticky fingers with "visions" making their own changes. You have script writers who also will want to make their tweaks to the story. And the director will undoubtedly fuck up, especially if it's the notorious game-to-movie director Uwe Boll. Add to that the fact that movies tend to set canon themselves - you and I might know what Shepard should do, say and react, but someone who hasn't played the game? He won't know, and that would create disparity between the two mediums, and no one would be happy. A movie would be a terrible, terrible idea.
Kojak0 You're right. Games that offer the level of freedom Mass Effect did, where no two playthroughs will be the same, should never be turned into movies. I really hope this whole ME movie thing will never see the light of day.
It kinda is in Mass Effect 2 due to how the game makes you mostly play in cover. And the Vanguard charge works very limitedly. Vanguard class unleashes its true potential in Mass Effect 3.
Mass effect 2 sucks i played mass effect 1 and i found it better its more open wolrd and a better rpg, mass effect 2 is restricted and it doesnt feel open world
Everytime I hear the ME club song from Omega, I just get goosebumps. This is the best RPG series that has ever existed and will for a long time. ME2 and 3 plus all DLCs are an incredible and very memorable story. When ME2 first launched, I was dropping tears after 5 minutes of gameplay. xD
Vanguard Charge is OP as hell, Old Joe. Leveled up with the right gear and other skills, you can Charge from enemy to enemy over and over 1-shotting them with Shotgun to the face and always staying at full shields. It's pretty crazy, there are videos on youtube about it. Same build is in Bioshock Infinite also, and it's just as OP there (maybe more).
Eduardo Gutierrez just bought the trilogy myself. Screw the QuickTime events you need to beat to open chests in ME1. My reflexes aren't what they used to be, so I have to reload the game 3-5x to get it right. Games amazing so far.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Joe. You are a god! I have tried (and failed) innumerable times to convince anyone that B5 is the best sci-fi out. Ranger for life yo!
Yes the other classes can use the assault rifle, shotgun or rifle etc. when you are on the collector cruiser, you can train it. This mission is half way through the game.
This was an entertaining review. I agree with most of the things other than the vanguard and charge. Charge is a sweet "high risk" move that can quickly put you in position to flank the enemy and can be combined with shockwave shortly after. It gets even better when you recharge timers go down.
angry joe has really went a long way with his reviews. Compared to his later 2011/2012/2013 reviews, these older ones are very poor. Im glad to see Angry Joe evoled and hope he keeps getting better...

No its Mass effect 1 = 9.5/10 Mass effect 2 = 10/10 Mass Effect 3 = 8.5/10 I Agree that ending sucks balls, but everything else besides that kicks ass in ME3
Great review. As always, you identify with the gamer and make an effort to address concepts not explored in more mainstream review outlets. I agreed with your assessments 100%. Keep up the good work. Bioshock 2 coming out next week. Could it be your first 10/10?
so i started playing on instanity and i don't know if this is the case with other difficultys atleast i diden't notice an issue while playing veteran but some enemies decide to walk back and forth for no reason considering that sometimes i had to stay put for longer a longer time considering how quickly i could die
The "class restrictions" for the assault rifle was not a new feature. That had been in place since the first game, so there's no reason to fault ME2 for that; you can't mark something down out of your own ignorance. Also, personal preferences that developers never promised not being in the game is a shitty standard for a game to live up to. Space battles and online co-op is not what Mass Effect ever needed.
Exellent game if you ignore the background story of part 2. Joining up Shepard with CERBERUS was a major flaw. After all we are talking here the Neonazi, Ku Klux Klan version of the MASS EFFECT Universe. In part 3 it was rightly corrected, CERBERUS was presented in the other corner again, but still this storyline in the second part left a bitter after taste to me after playing it. I mean the developers could have him teamed up with this reformed Pirat Lady he had met on the Citadel in Part 1. I would have thought that much better. This woman had made also a very interesting charackter.
what would you rather have a shitty game with an amazing ending or shitty ending with an amazing game its not about the destination its about the journey

@AngryJoeShow Quick few notes to your criticisms: You can use Assault Rifles on any class, eventually, if you so choose. You can control your party member placement. Charge is amazing. But I suppose that's an opinion from both of us (though, I will enforce the fact that being able to Charge through cover is very useful). This isn't me saying "ur reviw suks lawl," I'm just pointing out some facts and such.
Well, THANK you Joe. I thought Miranda was the hottest girl in the game, now I can't look at her without thinking Michael Jackson. I guess it's time to see if Ashley's still available...
Bioware gave us my favourite game to date. The story was unbelievably fun, the new characters diverse, the combat upgraded, the new graphics were stylistically brilliant and pushed the previous gen to the absolute limit. Mass Effect 2 is the Illyad of games
M15949 actually I liked Mass Effect 3. The combat vastly improved, the graphical quality was upgraded and character development worked. But admittedly the story was a bit jumpy, not quite as fleshed out and the morality meter was flawed. I think of it as Mortal Kombat X to Mortal Kombat: fun, mechanically and graphically superior, but with a less well crafted story, whilst still being a great game
I gotta disagree with the Vanguard Charge. I spammed the shit out of it and destroyed everyone. Combine it with an upgraded shotgun, spamming punches, and armor with full health and shields and you're a melee machine!
if you're having dual core issues you will need to change affinity, though I recommend using mass affinity tool as it seemingly prevents crashing issues which comes with changing affinity manually (through cmd/command prompt). You may already know this, but looking at the likes your comment received I suppose not all does.
The replay value of 2 is so so great lol... I replayed it the more then 3, it’s combat has so much depth... the squad combinations are so integral to each mission... each mission has something about the stage that can be exploited with certain and specific squad members and combinations thereof
infiltrators can also use sniper rifles. At the end i thought someone was standing behind joe but it turned out to be Shepard on the background screen.
i know this is old but wen he said the vanguard charge is useless... im sorry joe i have to say this but then you must have suck at it :P, i loved the biotic charge!
About not being able to use the assault rifle, if you play about halfway through the game, you have the option to learn how to use one of the weapon types, or pick up a custom weapon. It does take some time but at least you can use the weapon you want with the class you want.
If they make a movie about Shepard, I'm going to be furious. Shepard's story has not only been told, but portrayed in greater detail than any film could even try to replicate. If Bioware signs off on a movie deal, they BETTER not let anyone try to ruin Shepard's story. Luckily, the Mass Effect universe is so immersive that tons of stories can be told.
Willing to bet Joe would've given this a 10/10 nowadays, considering Andromeda and ugh, Anthem.

The replay value of 2 is so so great lol... I replayed it the more then 3, it’s combat has so much depth... the squad combinations are so integral to each mission... each mission has something about the stage that can be exploited with certain and specific squad members and combinations thereof
My verdict on ME3 remains as "Weakest of the series, but it's still Mass Effect and it's still awesome."
infiltrators can also use sniper rifles.
At the end i thought someone was standing behind joe but it turned out to be Shepard on the background screen.
i know this is old but wen he said the vanguard charge is useless... im sorry joe i have to say this but then you must have suck at it :P, i loved the biotic charge!
what going on with the old videos on the AJS website, They are all white screens.
OMG the part with the galaxy map made me laugh so hard, especially when you said you know you did this too
@Warhamer116 hm no mass effect is a franchise that will not stop with shepards story, thats what bioware said when they realest the first game
> "My vanguard's charge was pretty much useless"
Ok, that's herecy
About not being able to use the assault rifle, if you play about halfway through the game, you have the option to learn how to use one of the weapon types, or pick up a custom weapon.
It does take some time but at least you can use the weapon you want with the class you want.
I love what Mass Effect 3 did with it's multiplayer. It integrated its multiplayer progress to the single player. Which I've never seen before.
If they make a movie about Shepard, I'm going to be furious. Shepard's story has not only been told, but portrayed in greater detail than any film could even try to replicate. If Bioware signs off on a movie deal, they BETTER not let anyone try to ruin Shepard's story. Luckily, the Mass Effect universe is so immersive that tons of stories can be told.
great review! Very funny and still informative!
Mass Effect Trilogy remastered with all DLC at day 1 on ps4. I would buy it. Quicker loading screens and gameplay improvement, better graphics.
Well. You finally got your wish...it only took 6 years. Lol.
@@MetalGaiden96 Sadly.
Moved on. Play other games now.
@@TheArtofUTube Fair enough. But it's still good thing it exists at least. Better late than never either way.
