  • Many have requested this episode, and finally Namarasa was able to sit down with Babaji in this exclusive interview. Discussed topics including: History of the Jiva Institute, Babaji's journey in ISKCON, "In Vaikuntha Not Even the Leaves Fall" book (his side of the story!) and various others. This is not to be missed!

Sri Babaji - is a person of impeccable character who actually lives the Vaishnava sadachar (good behaviour). Babaji is a living example of how to practice Verse 4 of Siksastam -"trinad api sunichena II taror api sahishnuna II amanina manadena ||kirtaniyah sada harih." Babaji's humility comes through at the end of the interview where he asks for forgiveness if his words has disturbed any one. And this is not false humility but genuine humility coming from the heart. ..deepak desai

Babaji is a unique sadhu and guru. He has experienced the traditional Indian village life and thus can explain details of Vedic culture that help us better and deeply understand our scriptures. He is also familiar with the modern Western mind and lifestyle, which qualifies him to teach in an appropriate way. And he is immersed in shastra, which he reads and understands directly in Sanskrit. On top of all that, he walks his talk!

If you base your entire tradition on one Prophet or one book u will fall into same trap of Abrahamic religions. The desert culture of deprivation could never produce a better philosophy that too based on just single prophet than the perennial philosophy given by a forest dwelling culture of abundance refined over ageless continuum.
Abrahamic faiths ideology very nature is predatory & proselytizing. Any subgroup of Hindu Dharmic tradition who fall prey to deracination & alienate from Hindu roots are bound to be easy target. Buddhist suffered similar fate in regions of Afghanistan & Bengal & wiped out by Islam.

"Forget about easy before you come to nistha platform ... " Ummmm.... Srila Prabhupada directly encourages easy from start to finish. Follow Śrīla Prabhupada in every detail and you are going to get Krishna. The babajis Gaurakishore and Jagannatha das Babaji were not scholars. No. And they are highly respected Gaudiya Vaisnava saints. The mind of Satyanarayan is often revealed here as flickering. He seems to say one thing and contradict it in the same breath. I am listening for the 2nd time, and am taking notes of this phenomenon. Even from youth he says ' "I did not want to do it, then I did it." (a simple example of taking a decision he says he did not want to take )... When Śrīla Prabhupada says don't hear from outsider babajis , this is sincere advice which in this case should be followed. Srila Prabhupada is jagat guru for this Kaliyuga. No one can criticise him and get away with it.

In bhagavatam he writes Shiva cannot come under Maya. 8.12.40
In bhagavad gita he comments, Shiva loat to sensual attraction towards parvati. 2.62
In the entire vedic literature, nowhere you will find this comment rather opposite comment can be found. Ramayana.balakanda. and Shiva purana, rudra samhita ,kumara kanda.

I like the non-hate part. Still I personally don't understand how one can appreciate Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, but then be totally indifferent towards Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura. But okay, no reason for hating anybody.
I always understood the process of bhakti by submissive hearing from the spiritual master or from advanced devotees, asking questions and do practical service, especially engaging someway or other in the preaching mission. By this combination spiritual knowledge will become manifested in our hearts.
Srila A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada once said, one cannot jump over the spiritual master. I personally cannot understand how a follower of Srila A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada can go to another teacher who ignores the spiritual master of Srila A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, namely Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura. Again, no reason for hating anyone, but I will never follow this idea. For me it doesn't feel right.
But beside that I really like SND's attitude towards people who have decided to take distance from him/ his teachings. He seems to be pretty cool with it. I like his non-hate attitude even when there are different philosophical opinions. This ego-detached position is rare nowadays. My respect!

That was the point of contention with iskcon authorities because haridas shastri Maharaj had spoken in the past that the line of bhaktisiddhanta did not follow vedic tradition for a guru line. So they think the problems with the line are severe. Most iskcon devotees do not delve into that because of our faith. But for outsiders it is an issue.

What is the position of India? Nobody cares for India. Wherever I go, they say, "Oh, India. That is poverty-stricken country." That is your good message. Because you are actually going. The ministers are going, "Give me..., give me grains, give me money, give me weapons, so I can be saved from the slaughtering of China." The begging business. India's position is not very glorious outside India. You may be puffed up that you have become independent. But everyone is anxious to have your spiritual culture. Everyone. They know, even a Chinaman, he has written one book that is recommended in New York University. He says that "If you want to know about spiritual culture and religion, then you must go to India."
Why Indian boys are refusing? That is my question. They are losing the opportunity of taking birth in India. They are so much obstinate-to take their birth in India, and they are refusing this culture. That is the effect of this modern education.
You should realize your own assets and distribute to the world, and that will make you glorious. Surat srimad-bhagavatam 6.1.38

No reason that is reasonable for taking anyone else other than Śrīla Prabhupada as guru. This is so clear, and if one reads only the books he dedicated his whole life to translating and distributing, that will take up a complete lifetime. No time to waste dilly-dallying around with any other guru or a single philosophical idea blown up to such proportions that the basics are obscured. How many rounds does baba commit to? How many kirtans a day? What deity worship? What book distribution? I mean no disrespect to his persona, however, his conclusions and opinions are not helpful, and they may be harmful. Better to avoid the association. I heard this interview for the 2nd time and took notes to sharpen my faith in everything Śrīla Prabhupada gave us down to the last detail. Prabhupada gave the world Sri Krishna Caitanya in glorious perfection. Yes one can study and use logic to come to the understanding of how much we cannot understand ultimately about the inconceivable Absolute Truth. If we could count the grains of sand or stars in the sky, still we could never count the glories of Sri Krishna.

I tend to think that the kind of guru disciple relationship that Babaji speaks of is much more available in India, and is a very village centered traditional way. To constantly hear with one's ears shiksha directly from one's diksha guru is a luxury few in the west can afford. But reading the books and hearing online the words of one's guru is certainly possible. I personally don't see the great benefit of hearing over reading. They are parts of one thing. I do think it good advice to read and imbible your gurus entire canon to get the complete picture of his teachings. I'm not sure why Baba thinks everyone is just flitting here and there for shiksha. ONce you've digested your guru's words it is natural to expand your horizons and hear from other sadhus. That only makes sense.

The soul is witnessing the actions of the body, but responds only to devotional activity. Once devotional samskaras are imprinted in consciousness (beginning with sraddha ) there is no way to move down for the soul. There is no fall down for the soul touched by devotion!
