It's a fairly realistic movie. But he does have a point that the movie is more interested in placing characters in specific situations than plot development. That certainly could have been done much better... As much as I like 8 Mile, it contains a lot of mindless location switching.
Perfect? Eh.. I don’t know about that. Watching it back all these years later, I find the acting ( entire cast ) to be really cheesy and overdone. The “thugs” with the typical Do-rag and leather jacket get up was corny. PapaDauex not having ANY response for em. Like I know he predicted what he would say, but still. Battle rappers in real life will never not say anything. Very unrealistic The trashy girlfriends. Like what was even the point of Taryn and Brittany’s characters??? All they did was have sex with him.. that’s it. There was no character arc or development. The fake dreads on Mekhi 😂 Totally killed any believability for me. The random freestyle battles throughout the movie were atrocious except that one black chick. I loved how she rapped about how shitty her work environment was. I thought that was dope, but then Xzibit had to ruin by making fun of her. I’d give it a 5/10.

Sascha Hammer dude doesn’t know Eminem. Just listening to a cd and watched keynotes. Not saying this is the best and Eminem is an actor, but this fool is biased af. An overhyped shit fest got less sins than this.
I'd venture to say he pieced together a few rhymes this way. It will happen. You have a few hot lines here and there. Write them down. LATER at some point in time, you look at those pieces and put them together, maybe pull something from older songs you've written or heard. But this is by no means a way that he writes ALL his music.

This film has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Interesting fun fact is that the entire film is one week in his life. And they do an excellent job showing each day. Theres no message on the screen saying what day it is, just the characters interactions. I know its a bad film overall, but i just loved that concept. You are literally in his shoes for one entire week. No breaks.

@@simonjohnson3424 Agreed I wouldn't stand a chance in freestyle, but then again I would assume an association such as the above is something most freestylers would have at the ready like a pianist has his common chord progressions.
As someone who lived in Detroit, this is an "accurate portrayal of the city" but seriously, Detroit is garbage. Also, 8 Mile is a reference to the street he lived on, and the street is named 8 mile because it is 8 miles from Detroit. I lived just off of 14 mile, 7 mile, and just off of 15 mile when I was in Michigan
lol I lived there too its not that bad honestly I'd say that l.a is worse maybe even portland oregon when i lived there stuff didnt make the news often but there was shooting everyday i even got stabbed carrying milk home from the store hands down the worst place ive lived is portland i couldnt even let my kid walk to school because someone go murdered on the track of the highschool he went too
Then you haven't lived here long enough... it's Eight Mile Road.... and he didn't live on it..matter of fact he used that house to say he lived there on and off.. then his Grandma's and his uncles. Shady Lanes at 10 mile and that other house in South Warren. It's not at all an accurate protrayal of the city. Ain't no vegans live in Detroit. Because Detroit is where the Weak get Eaten... and Vegetarians are horrible hunters.... in other words.. they get ate. lol. Glad you rolled through though but you could of added more truth to your descriptor. 8 Mile is also the Half way.... hence East Detroit previously was called Half Way... as a small town with streets of mud before the Governor the 30th of Michigan Alex J. Groesbeck started up the gas tax to pave new roads through including Groesbeck Highway which was named after him. I live in his house today. The old Governor's mansion.
Sinning "8 Mile" on a bus? 8 Mile is a street name. That's literally just the street name on the bus, which is standard practice, not really sin worthy

There was absolutely nothing wrong with this movie. It is one of the few films I would consider perfect.
I gotta give it to cinemasins though that the sex scene went on for wayy too long
It's a fairly realistic movie.
Very unrealistic
The trashy girlfriends.

As someone who lived in Detroit, this is an "accurate portrayal of the city"

lol I lived there too its not that bad honestly I'd say that l.a is worse maybe even portland oregon when i lived there stuff didnt make the news often but there was shooting everyday i even got stabbed carrying milk home from the store hands down the worst place ive lived is portland i couldnt even let my kid walk to school because someone go murdered on the track of the highschool he went too
Downtown Detroit is really improving
Parts of Detroit are improving, slowly. I live off 12 mile now.
@liacashmere58 It's getting better! You should definitely still visit, downtown is pretty great nowadays
