When people in English switch to an excessively formal and polite register not needed for the situation it can be done in a humourous way, as here where that is also done in a sarcastic and condescending way, to emphasise the teacher scolding the student. I pray you, pray tell me, would have meant please before asking a question in everyday language maybe in the 1700s, from the Early Middle English "prithee", meaning pray, i.e. please, used e.g. in Shakespeare in the late 1500s, early 1600s. The joke is that the teacher knows very high sophisticated language that is hundreds of years old, can correctly use and pronounce such terms, but can't pronounce any very common names correctly. (Exodus meaning leave is a biblical reference entering common English in the 1500s and 1600s with various attempts of the authorised Bible translation from the original Latin, in this sketch meaning to leave, leaving, exiting, it would never normally be used in this way, it is excessively, ridiculously over the top and posh and formal, in the Bible it, the Exodus, refers to the Jews who were enslaved in Egypt, fleeing Egypt with God's help for the Promised Land, i.e. Israel). So again the teacher knows really formal sophisticated language and is clearly very educated in terms of classical literature, history and scripture but is trying to sound so by using an excessively and oddly formal register in scolding the pupil, and so he sounds ridiculous. Premature also sounds oddly excessively formal, we use premature in specific ways like a premature birth, giving birth prematurely, so premature sounds off here when early would be normal and natural. "Why do you need to leave early" is what a normal person speaking normally would say, instead of the excessively formal, very old and polite and odd choice of words he chose, but he doesn't mean to be polite, rather to put the student down, insult and mock him, by creating this distance owing to deliberate excessive formality.

Yeah but they're a little older than h.s. students. Also, real students would be laughing and interacting with each other, big-time. For comic purposes this is fine but it's atypical. H.S. teacher for 40 years I know this age group!
Can't get enough of Mr. Garvey, one of my all-time favorite skits from Key & Peele (and they have a lot). "I taught in the "inner city" for 20 yrs." says it all!
They are all students in real tv shows too. Jay Quelin is Carlson Young DNice is Shelby Fero The first sketch has other actors I recognize but dont know the names.
About a year after this sketch got popular, I started a new job and on eof my coworkers was named Aaron. I remember I was like... "Wait, you're..." he cut me off and is like, "Don't you dare say it. I am so sick of hearing it."
If I need to laugh, I play this. While the great writing must be acknowldeged, Key's performance is one that should be studied by all comedic actors. His physical movements, timing and voice are perfection. From the minute he enters the classroom, he captivates.
@@tyronesiasmall8418 for clarification when I say "made" I mean he was the standout star (to me anyway). Kinda like Doc Holiday made Tombstone. He didn't directly write it or produce it but he was the standout performance. 😀

1:53 A-A Ron with that face he makes is fucking brilliant, you can read his mind clear as day yet he doesn't say a word. Great acting!
The actors playing the students are phenomenal…. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💪💪🙌🙌❤️❤️
Yeah but they're a little older than h.s. students. Also, real students would be laughing and interacting with each other, big-time. For comic purposes this is fine but it's atypical. H.S. teacher for 40 years I know this age group!
When he said "There they are. The usual suspects." 😂😂😂
I love that line!! 😂
I have to come back every few months to re-watch this. I fall out laughing every time! 🤣🤣🤣
Props to Aaron for wearing his safety goggles.
Its A-A-ron
@@twistedfirestarter8913 🤣🤣🤣
I couldn't exactly figure out what was going on there. They're only required when they're doing some lab work.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Those are his regular reading glasses.
The mosquito bite club🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Brooooooooo
That's hurtful! Truthful! lol
😅😅😅😅😅
😂😂😂
WTF!? 😂
Can't get enough of Mr. Garvey, one of my all-time favorite skits from Key & Peele (and they have a lot). "I taught in the "inner city" for 20 yrs." says it all!
One of my favourite comedy sketches ever. The students all played their part too in making it great 👍🏼
Much h fact hey Frank hey the
They're all great but A-A-Ron cracks me up.
@@davechristian1525 Same!! and Balake 🤣🤣😂😂
They are all students in real tv shows too.
Jay Quelin is Carlson Young
DNice is Shelby Fero
The first sketch has other actors I recognize but dont know the names.
@@SuperChuckRaney I knew Dnice looked familiar!!! Lol 😂 they’re all great! Love the skits 👏🏼
Shout out to all my brothers out there who’s lives were forever changed by this sketch.

What is it now, A. A. Ron?!!
Man even aaron rodgers wasn't spared...
About a year after this sketch got popular, I started a new job and on eof my coworkers was named Aaron. I remember I was like... "Wait, you're..." he cut me off and is like, "Don't you dare say it. I am so sick of hearing it."
Low key funniest line
"Fake announcement..."
Totally!
The first video of K&P I ever watched and instantly binged it all.
So true, and then I instantly became a subscriber 😃
I envy your journey, when all the skits are fresh and new
@@katrinab7657 everyone gets to live it once in a lifetime
Same. Saw it from the Aaron Hernandez meme.
Same
If I need to laugh, I play this. While the great writing must be acknowldeged, Key's performance is one that should be studied by all comedic actors. His physical movements, timing and voice are perfection. From the minute he enters the classroom, he captivates.
I knew when he got to A Aron to ask what club he was in he was gonna lose his shit 😂😂😂😂
4:54 is there a Stargate in your bedroom the way he says it 😂
Ay-Ay Ron's "why do I talk?" gets me every time. Such a great sketch
3:50 the way he says "claabbb"
"AIN'T NONE OF Y'ALL OLD ENOUGH TO GO TO THE DAMN CLUB!"
*3:51
"I'm president of the glee club (why do I talk)" I'm crying!! That kid made these sketches.
Did he? Interesting
@@tyronesiasmall8418 for clarification when I say "made" I mean he was the standout star (to me anyway). Kinda like Doc Holiday made Tombstone. He didn't directly write it or produce it but he was the standout performance. 😀

Back after seeing Transfomers One. 'A-Atron'
His acting is FANTASTIC!!!! LOL he plays so many characters and the mannerisms are always spot on!!!!
@@loganmccain9573 Damn, you're uplifting as flip!
As a public school teacher for the past 28 years I can attest to the 100% accuracy of the students behavior. Spot on!
Cowering in fear of an abusive psychopath who'll never lose his job thanks to his Union? Sounds about right.
As an Aaron, I want people to know that I have been called A-A Ron for as long as I can remember. It happens still ALL. THE. TIME. I'm not even mad about it. I just think it's crazy how it's the first thing many people think when they hear my name.
You're kidding right? Who is so uneducated to mispronounce a Biblical name like Aaron??? Do they pronounce aardvark: A-A-r'd-Vark?
@@cpetrizziAgreed it's like calling Hank Aaron, "Hank A-A-Ron"
"You are not in the chest club. Mosquito bite club, maybe." 😂😅😊

Classic skit. The acting/delivery all around was perfect, lol.
Undercover boss is a great one too
"I gotta go pick up my daughter" "You're excused" LOL
And that's after Mr Garvey told the class they are too young to be in a club.
so true
I'm a camp counselor and we all performed this as a skit (I played Garvey). All the kids at the camp wouldn't stop repeating the lines for the rest of the week so I think we did a good job
HA that's golden hahaha
On par with Shakespeare. It's art, it's commentary, it's linguistic gold, and if comedy could kill we would all be dead.
But I hope they weren't churlish or chicanerous about it
😆
Is a camp counsellor a
Deliberate affectation or exaggeration of style, especially of popular or outdated style, for ironic or humorous effect?
Man,
This is probably the best skit ever in my opinion. Funny as hell!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This storyline deserves a whole movie!
Turns out Timóthy has no daughter, he's just been to so many cookouts with his parents, uncles and aunts who grew up poor in the 80's, he already know the right answers.
When he clears everything off his desk and snaps his clipboard I can't help but die of laughter, he is positively brilliant
i like it too

@@othnielmarsh8942 Im not farmiliar with the word. So thank you.
@@LittlePwnageMusicFan he didn't mispronounce one thing. Now take yourself to the principal's office :)
@@TonyTarantula But the students are pronouncing their names right. So why can't Mr. Garvey pronounce them right?
I have watched this probably 25 times or more and I still laugh so hard when he says "insubordinate and churlish." Every. Single. Time.
His aggression mixed with these soft spoken, eloquent words is what does it for me too.
I still use, you done messed up A Aron, on my friend 😀
If you go to the German nazi sketch with Ty Burrell he says the same thing
Aaron: Because it's pronounced Aaron.
Mr. Garvey: *SON of **_A BITCH!_*
A A Ron 🤣🤣🤣
How that class managed to hold it together is beyond me…
Amen, that was what I was thinking. Really pro actors for the students. Key and Peele awesome, of course. The brevity of the Peele excuse line was its beauty.
We don't know that they did keep it together. The editor would have cut out any laughter. We don't even know if Key was on set during some of their lines.
@@mikejohnson3338 I agree with you there is a lot of editing, but even to get to the place where all those actors kept it together for at least one take? Probably took a few takes. Each part was perfect with timing, expressions, behavior. Chef's Kiss Award.

Shoutout to all the Aarons that were called A-Aron countless times since this video came out
Lolz! I have a co-worker named Aaron that everybody calls A-Aron.
Yup, I hear it everyday. 😅
Imagine (Aaron Blake).
I believe the problem is with English language and the creators of this insane language
I mean the name (Blake ) is pronounced “ Blaek “ why do guys write it in a different way?!!!!
And Aaron is just pronounced Aron so why you guys put two AA in the word I mean is not a battery so wrong with you all?
“O-Shag-Hennessey” that made me laugh harder than I needed to🤣🤣🤣
I totally lost it when he said "I'm gonna throw you out the goddamn window!"
