J Y I’m a student pharmacist & they’re right...CinemaSins was wrong! Benadryl’s active ingredient is diphenhydramine, which has strong anticholingeric effects (which is why you have to be careful giving it to old people, because it can increase their risk of falls), and those effects are what would account for the “loopiness.” 😊 Also, Will Smith was drinking the liquid kind, which would hit his systemic circuit a lot faster than the pill form.

I thought the point of the movie was that Hitch was teaching guys how to get through dates and at the end he finds out the only reason that his advice works is because when getting those dates the guys show off their weird quirks (that he discouraged) and the girls like those quirks, which they wouldn't have seen if those men hadn't been following his advice to get dates. Showing that he was building their confidence but going about it in the wrong way, which is what he figured out by the end of the movie.
Little things like "smith and lesson," and "this friend arrives the moment Hitch Hikes away" are just some of the reasons you guys are awesome at this

Movies like that are super hypocritical and seem to think lazily tacking on a weak message on feminism at the end (one that usually doesn’t actually have anything other than some meaningless bullshit about girl power rather than actually putting effort into creating good female characters or deconstructing misogyny that isn’t someone outright saying I hate women) excuses all the earlier sexism that is usually presented as flawed but lovable and endearing rather than an actual issue that takes work and self-reflection to overcome.
I mean, it's really great he's aware of all the sexism in this movie- most people aren't.

Gotta nitpick here. When I've had severe anaphylactic allergic reactions, I got super super loopy. Adding benadryl makes it worse to be honest. I actually made a joke in the hospital that I looked like Hitch, and "Nurse, I need a big bottle of benadryl and a straw." Hardy har har.
Your rant on the apology scene was spot on... Except for the part where you completely left out the context of why Sara was apologizing: She exposed him as the Love Doctor not because she thought he was a sleazy grifter (which he is), but because her friend was hurt by the "Want to get laid" guy from earlier and she thought WTGL guy was acting on Hitch's instructions. She found out she got it wrong (and that she was a horrible journalist) and then Apology. Hell, the real sin in that scene was Hitch taking her back after she nuked his career on basis of bad info (though he does call her out on it first, which makes their reconciliation even more ridiculous)
I realize this means nothing to people who've never seen the movie. But to those that have? This is as sloppy a take as Eva Mendes'.
Either way, the fact that both of them hook up at the end is idiotic.
Yeah the movie didn't "make women apologize for being difficult to attain", it had one woman apologize for trying to destroy someone's career based on flimsy evidence that turned out to be wrong.
The only sin is Hitch being dumb enough to keep dating her after that.
that sin really annoyed me because not only did she nuke his career but she destroyed the relationships of everyone who hired him and some of those people looked to have been married for some time. She hurt a lot of people with what she did.

The whole point of the movie is that Will Smith’s character isn’t as clued up about women as he might think. That makes him a bit naive (which he realises at the end of the movie by the way) but it certainly doesn’t make him a sexist. Especially when it clearly highlights more than once that he strictly does NOT help struggling guys get ‘laid’ but helps them get one foot in the door of a genuine, loving and committed relationship, of which they will treat the woman they love with respect, if they’re shy or unsure of how to win over their affections. On what planet is that even remotely sexist? And he only became the ‘Date doctor’ and so called expert in the first place because it was a woman who was vile towards him and broke HIS heart by sleeping around, simply because he says he loved her 🤔But hey, it’s 2019, let’s keep running with the singular narrative that suits best 👍🏻
Also, I don't see anything wrong with finding someone attractive wanting to have sex with them, wanting to have sex with then and trying to convince them to have it with you. Only anti-sex losers are that anti-sexual freedom.

How does he expect movies to be? all of them start the same way? its good to have narration now and then. Sometimes, a cool deep voice while narrating can put you right in middle of the scenario, making you get the chills or warm!

Im confused about the apology scene. I haven't seen the movie in some time but i thought she was apologizing because she attempted to ruin him because her friend ended up hooking up with the guy Hitch refused to help after the initial meeting with him. I thought that scene and the sting op scene were supposed to establish he had some sort of vetting process even if we dont get an explanation as to what it is entirely and wasn't Hitch upset about how it was affecting Albert. This vid made him seem like a pick up artist when I thought the idea was to get married. Like hitched. Which is why he didnt help the guy her friend hooked up with. Maybe im being nit picky but that is part of why i love this channel and this kinda fell short for me.
You're kinda right: she apologized because she wrote an article making Hitch look like a pickup artist. She didn't know Hitch was just trying to help guys not look like idiots on dates, she didn't even know he was the date doctor. She just heard about the date doctor from the guy who shagged her friend and when she found out it's Hitch she thought he was a player who was just working her. The sting op is when she finds out it's him. Hitch then tells her and her friend the other guy was a pig that he refused to work with, so she apologizes.

Probably because it was one of those weird Hollywood ideas of how things work everytime in the real world. Not everyone lives their lives according to movie clichés. Plenty of women don't wait for the guy to catch up that she wants to be kissed.
And, really, it's a weird thing anyway. Sure, sometimes it probably happens, maybe because girls and women saw it in movies and copied it. But not all or even most women do it.
I suppose it can seem a small issue to some people, but hey, opinions differ.
So the keys jingling thing is definitely real for some folks but not everyone. That's part of the problem. Stereotypically men are STILL expected to be the initiators of romantic overtures. Women STILL use alot of unclear signs for things and get angry when the guy doesn't "get the hint". Does this mean everyone fits in those trends? No. But until people stop beating around the bush and playing mind games things like "fiddling with the keys" will be used by people (women or not) who want that kiss but for whatever reason are not willing to clearly communicate that. Really, if you want that kiss, you should ask for the kiss or be much more clear about wanting the kiss than dropping a hint that will likely bounce off the other person. Especially in this charged age where going in for an unwanted kiss could result in some very VERY serious labels and repercussions.

We haven’t had to since the 50s, when it was deemed slutty/inappropriate for women to express any interest in men (see: Baby It’s Cold Outside). People just claim we do that in order to justify the “no doesn’t mean no, it means try harder” mindset exemplified in this movie.

Just so I get this clear, the movie I thought was stupid and annoying because people kept comparing me to Kevin James after this movie came out. But was praised by people like Oprah and was celebrated as a movie that championed what romance, chivalry and what a real modern man should act like. Meaning that the guys should strive for love and relationship instead of just casual sex, is now sexist.
I'm not saying I'm against the idea, it's sort of retroactive revenge for me I guess. But what exactly is sexist about it? Is it the generalization that the movie makes that doesn't fit in 2019 or am I missing something? Also please do the 40 year old virgin next because by todays standards that movie will break the sin counter given that 90% of the movie was pretty much improvised and done in a way where they tried to come up with the most offensive jokes and scenarios possible.

Hitch is about a game advisor who saw a particular pattern in attracting women and developed a set of rules to put insecure men in a successful position. This is all to lead them to a relationship. He later figures out through experience that approaching relationships this way is not fool-proof and is flawed

In fairness, the "Michelangelo- Sistine Chapel." analogy clearly flew over CS' head there seeing as his whole point is how the Sistine Chapel already existed.
Exactly. And that's his point. He's going to take what was there previously, do his "work" and "improve" him. He's not claiming he's going to completely "remodel" him or anything (certainly not build from scratch like the rant states would be a "better" analogy) but simply enhance what's there already.
Enjoyed the movie. Will and Eva have good chemistry.

Truth be told he doesn't get enough credit. He didn't lay down, that would take too long. He painted the entire chapel leaning backwards at a 45 degree angle and free-handed the entire ceiling start to finish. It was literally a back breaking, physically exhausting and near impossible feat that he accomplished on his own and changed a bland ordinary ceiling into one of the wonders of the world.
This is what he means. It's going to be a back breaking, demanding job, but after the blood, sweat, tears, and suffering he'll have an astonishing masterpiece to unveil to the world.

The ONLY thing I like about this movie is that it's legit fun and reminds me of more civilized time when men-women relationships were treated as cuddly and warm and not as a sin against something. We took leaps back in that regard.

Gotta disagree with you at 14:28-14:55. Hitch was never teaching men how to manipulate women, he was teaching them social skills and appearance tips in order to present their very best selves to the women they were interested in. The men weren't lying to the women or getting them under any false pretentious. They weren't using money or only looking for sex. They genuinely wanted a fair chance at finding love. And the truth is women can write a guy off right off the bat due to a lack of charisma/social skills and/or lackluster appearance. Definitely gotta give you a sin on this one buddy!
