- A perfect pattern should tick all the boxes. Is it easy? Does it come together quickly? Can it be used with quilting cotton? ...Vinyl? …Leather? Is it suitable for a gift? Is it of something that anyone could use? And last of all, does it look good? The Logi Pouch says yes to all.
Nicole Barber from OKSew has agreed to let us use her pattern in this week’s Tip Tuesday. Simply watch or join us while we sew up this intriguing little bag.
You can find the Logi Pouch Pattern attached to one of Nicole's video: • Logi Pouch (Lined) - W...

Great video…gonna make one for sure !!! 😎
Great tutorial!
Thanks for a really in-depth tutorial! Great video on this cute bag!
I got into bag making because everyone was locked up in their houses in 2020 and I needed to do something with my hands! I really wanted to learn before and then suddenly found the time.
Thanks for the great video instruction. Earthquake and all 😊
I hear you! My first bag was in mid-2020. It was a lousy time for group activities but a wonderful time for diving down the rabbit hole of bag making. 😉
Great tutorial with lots of tips. Thanks 👍
Awesome video. I'm a huge fan of OKSew TH-cam channel!!
Thank you! As you can tell, Im a big fan of her work. Thank you for watching and I hope we become one of your favs as well.
Love it
Great video. Thanks!
Thank you very much
Good video, love your shortcuts. Thanks
Great tutorial~ !! thanks~!!
You're welcome. And thank you for watching.😍
Just finished watching your video and I can’t thank you enough for all the tips. Now I am getting the pattern. 😊
That made my heart happy getting you comment. You are so welcome. ❤
It is such a great and easy bag!
It is, isn't it? Nicole did a great job on creating this pattern. It has been fun using it.
Great video. Nicole's pattern is fantastic.
It really is, isnt it. She is quite the stunning artist and designer.
I got into bag making because I started making leather notebook covers LOL. You know how one thing always leads to another. I'm excited to try this one. Thank you for the great video and pattern :)
You're welcome and thanks for watching. We really appreciate you hanging around our sewing community.😉
You've gained a new subscriber. Sure hope all your videos are as detailed as this one is. Thank you for leaving me with no questions.
Thank you for subscribing. I plan on making them just like this one. In my everyday world, I love sewing and teaching and stream-of-consciousness explanations...lol. This is why these videos are the way they are so I dont expect them to change. Glad youre part of our online community. 😁
I have made several of these will try he 125%
If your are opening this pattern up in Adobe Acrobat, when printing out at 125% make sure to tile it up using the poster option. That way it spreads it out and tiles it up without loosing part of the image.
I agree with you, I’ve recently made this and it is perfect ❤️ I ve made it in clear vinyl too, it’s lovely, on the vinyl ,I don’t line it , I use heat transfer vinyl, beautiful glittery inside and it stabilises too. I teach crafts and certainly will be doing this as a project
I have some clear vinyl but really havent played with it. You have given me courage and inspiration to do this.
Loved this tutorial! Thanks for posting it. I really am a quilter, but love to do crafts too. 3 years ago I took a job with a local company called Sallie Tomato. I've been a bag maker ever since. And yes I continue to quilt...but sometimes its a toss up on which kind of project I'm going to do
Yay!!! I love Sallie Tomato. And....I know how it is to have multiple sewing interests and wondering which sewing rabbit hole Im going to dive down next. Thank you for watching. I means a lot.😁
Awesome video!! Thank you! I would like to buy some of the vinyl to make the pattern template. Do you have a link?
Great video and tips. Love it. What size and length of zipper did you use?
I was using a #5 zipper. I think the regular size (100%) uses a 17" zipper and the larger (125%) uses a 22" zipper. As I said in the video, I usually always cut my zipper tape a little long. I dont want to have a zipper fray and not have enough wiggle room to trim it if I need to.
Just came across your video. Awesome explanation. What type of binding did you used? I didn’t catch the name? Thank you ❤
Glad you enjoyed it. I used a 1" strip of the vinyl that I used for the exterior. Normally, if Im using a non-fraying material anywhere on the bag I will use it on the binding. Most times I will use a waterproof canvas as the lining and because it wont fray I cut a strip of it and bind the edges. If Im using a quilting cotton I will cut a strip of fabric and create a double folded bias tap (although it doesnt have to be cut on the bias) and use that to bind. I make my binding so that it is 1" that it will fold over with .5" on each side so its easy to sew on one side and you dont have to worry too much that you are catching it on the underside. I hope that helps. 🪡
Your pouches came out wonderful! Where did you get that awesome tool for leathere?
If you're asking about the pattern on the bag, the outer piece is a vinyl that is made to look like tooled leather. This piece was sent to me by a longtime friend but you can usually find this type of vinyl at an upholstery fabric store. And thank you for watching.
I started making bags after 1 year, which is how long it took to get my hands and feet coordinated, as I had never sewn in my 78 years. My background is in supervision in heavy farm equipment manufacturing and later as Industrial Engineer for the same company.
Welcome to the world of sewing and bag making! We have several customers that are current or former engineers. I would think that its a good fit for bag making. What machine are creating your bags on?
Question - could I add a D ring for a wristlet strap and where?
I have made several with a D ring and it works nicely. Once you have the zipper pulls on and the bag turned inside out to box the corners, insert your D ring so that the ring is inside the seam. Use a strong Microtex or denim needle and be careful. Of course, put the ring on the end where the zipper pulls close. If you have a big enough pull with a hole in it, you can create a wristlet with a lobster hook that will attach directly though the zipper pull. Good luck and let us know how it goes.👍
Great video. What is the price range for the HD9B?
Thank you so much for watching the video. We appreciate all our viewer's inquiries. Janome does not allow us to publicly post prices on dealer machines like the HD9BE but I would invite you to call us and we can answer your questions (281-469-5377). And when you do, let us know that you're calling because of this video. It helps us to know what kind of reach our videos are getting.
I would love to see the inside of the bag with the binding. Are there any images of the inside? Thanks
awe, man! I didnt get any picks of the enterior before I sent them off to my friend. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I will make sure to show these types of shots in the future. 👍
Would you kindly post the pattern link again? Thank you
The link is in the description.
How do u make the interfacing pattern smaller to allow the seam allowance please
All I did was print out a second pattern and use a ruler to measure in from the cut line 3/8" all the way around, making dots to mark the distance as I go. You will have to be careful around the curves, making several marks as the distance changes as the curve progresses. I then connected the dots with a ruler and french curve ruler. If you dont have a french curve, you can free hand it. Cut away the 3/8" seam allowance and there you go!
Great tutorial, thanks!! I looked for the plastic sheets to create templates on your website and couldn't find it. Would you please provide the proper name to search for it? Thanks.
Thanks. I will check on that and get back to you on how to find them. I know that we sold out when the video was first posted. I'll get back with the information.
We are out of them and we are putting them online as soon as they come in and I will let you know. When the video first posted, we had a viewing buy us out. We will get them back in stock.
@@sewingvacuumwarehouse thank you so much! I'll be awaiting notification. :)
What size paper did you use to make your pattern at custom 125? 8x10 doesn't work for me.
The original size is to be printed on a 8.5x11 sheet of paper. If you are opening this pattern up in Adobe Acrobat, when printing out at 125% make sure to tile it up using the poster option. That way it spreads it out and tiles it up without loosing part of the image. Generally, most printers will give you this option when you print out but it may not be called "poster" on the program you are viewing it in. If you can't get it to work for you, take the file to a FedEx Office or Office Depot (anywhere that does copies) and tell them you want it at 125%. I hope that gives you some tips to make it work for you.
@@sewingvacuumwarehouse Thanks so much for the speedy reply. Like the larger size so I am all set.
What is the seam allowance you used? Thanks ❤
On the two boxed ends I used a 3/8" seam allowance. Around the zipper I used my zipper foot to get as close to the zipper teeth as I could. The reason I went as close to the teeth as I could is because I know that I will be trimming down the curve with pinking shears and I dont want to compromise the integrity of the stitch when I turn the bag out. I pull firmly on the zipper teeth to get my topstitch clean and I dont want to pull out the seam. As far as the boxed ends are concerned, adjusting the seam allowance more or less will not affect the pattern as long as they are consistent with each other. I hope that helps. Good luck. 😉
Thank you so much, I appreciate you ❤
I am curious what tension u r using. I just got an hd 9 and find the tension setting remarkably low.
What size thread are you running through it? Because the HD9 is made for using standard weight threads (40-60wt) and thicker threads (Tex70 and up) the tension is going to vary differently than standard multi-stitch machines. The mid to upper tension settings (4-8) will be used for the thicker threads, while the standard threads will fall in the lower tension settings (1-4). On this bag, I was using a Tex70 thread and my tension was set to around 5. I hope that helps.🙂
That makes sense. I was having issues with the lighter thread weights bc 1 seemed so low. I had fewer issues with the 70 weight when sewing cork and vinyl.
@@amandatrask9695 If you feel like you have bottomed out with your upper thread tension and dont have enough wiggle room to fine tune with lighter threads, you can increase the bobbin case tension which in turn will cause you to need to increase the top thread. This will get you up off the bottom of your top thread tension. Be careful when increasing your bobbin case tension. You should make small increases when tightening the bobbin case screw (1/8 of a full rotation or less). You might consider in the future getting a second bobbin case that is tensioned for lighter threads while keeping your original bobbin case for thicker threads.
Thank you! I will try this. Also gonna make the bag!
@@sewingvacuumwarehouse this is such great advice. I really appreciate it. It worked. I am going to get an extra bobbin case as I make bags with heavier fabrics (vinyl, cork, etc.) and quilting cotton.
Best weight loss is Fast 800 low carb. Low sugar. I lost 75 lbs. and have kept it off for 4 years. My health is the best and I’m 69 yrs. You can to do. I love your teaching skills.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you! And thank you for the weight loss tip. Im seeing it as a book by Michael Mosley? I'll look at it. Ive been working on moving more and have been happy with how that is going and am ready to make a change in my diet. I'll let you know if I start it.
Great vid on the logi bag. Also thanks for the info on the janome!
