Tighten the reverse safety cable adjustment to the end of its travel or remove the plastics and tie the actuation lever on the trans. Either way it bypasses the reverse safety. If it doesn’t like going into reverse lightly tap the throttle when you press the up or down button and it’ll fall into gear. There isn’t a spline synchro in the trans to line up the splines for the collar to slide onto.
I shifted gears all of my life and I never thought it distracting where I couldn't "enjoy the tour". Unless I did something wrong - I just remember pulling in a lever with my hand and moving a lever with my foot - it took all of .25 seconds.
Yep for sure. Auto is just that much easier. Handy in certain situations. Example: Riding 2 up, you have to sit further forward due to the passenger which makes it harder to shift. Your foot has to be in a awkward position.
Mine was a bad decision getting a dct. It's been in the shop about 6 times in its first year, trying to figure out what's all wrong. Had a low rpm sputter when it gets warmed up good, they could not replicate it. Its at another dealer with shifting. Riding down a trail, sometimes it would just get stuck in a gear. Have to stop and shut it off to reset. They say it's a recall on the program and mine will not except the flash. Heard others having same problem, you would think after making the electric shift for more than 15 years, it would be flawless and they do something else. But do love that low 1st gear and maybe their is some good ones out there.
Wow that’s odd. Keep in mind dct and es are 2 different options Honda offers. I agree with you tho, es has been a weak link in hondas live up. So far mine is ok. Long term with what I’m doing it won’t hold up tho.
Reverse is engaged by cable, so i adjusted the cable with the inline adjustment to always have reverse engaged.. so you can just click down with gear selector to engaged reverse without pulling in brake lever. it still wont allow you to shift when wheeler is moving so no damage to tranny can occur.
yep for sure! Just something they could change at factory in the future to make these machines even better then they are. Thanks for leaving some advice!

No I do not have a lift, it's not needed to fit 29.5's. I HAD a lift and I ended up breaking an axle within 120 kms. Too much angle for the CV. Hope this helps.

Great job on the video, I'm a firm believer of the manual foot shift, I think the cvt transmissions are for the folks out there that want to be taken for a ride like a bus or taxi and manual guys are the ones that want to take the machine for a ride like an old race quad with good old faithful manual transmission and clutch. I bet half if not more of the people out there with these so called great cvt transmissions couldn't drive a manual sport quad if there lives depended on it, maybe that's why cvt's sell so well so the horrible drivers of the world can come play too.
You can simply put a clamp on the cable behind red lever to hold it in place so all you have to do is push button down for reverse cheap mod look it up

The lift will break axles. That's a guarantee. Gear reduction is def something you want to consider when thinking of going with any tire larger than 28' IMO.
Man, if these machines had just 10-15 more horsepower and another 15-20mph in top speed. This would allow cruising at 45-50 between trailheads without winding out the engine and if needed the little extra speed is nice so friends are not always waiting on you.
Ya I hear ya! I don't do a lot of trail riding at high speeds so I don't run into that issue of people waiting on me. I can see how it would be an issue for some tho.
Thanks for the review. I gather that for 2020, Honda has improved accessing reverse. I don't understand WHY Honda has not bothered to enter the larger displacement (800cc+) market. Having one with a DCT would be WONDERFUL! In addition to its low power, Honda also comes up short on stock ground clearance, and suspension travel. I have Polaris 1000 and Can Am 800 ATVs. A friend has a Can Am 1000 ATV. Most people don't need that large a displacement. But, we run tracks in decently deep snow, where lots of power is needed. Besides, having a surplus of power to run 30" tires up steep hills as fast as you're willing to take it, and on only partial throttle, makes it worthwhile in general.
Ya, I'm not sure why they haven't made a larger displacement engine. Maybe one day lol. I actually didn't have an issue with the clearance on the Rubicon 500, it was equal to my Renegade. A set of larger tires helps get the frame off the ground a bit more on both machines. If the Rubicon had anymore it would blow Cv's 24/7 lol. Just so you know a lot of track kits come with a built in gear reduction so you don't actually need a lot of power. Having that power doesn't hurt tho! So I get what you're saying there. We run tatou's on a 1000 XMR, halls large loads of wood with ease!
@@HondudeTeamMudhogs I own Tatous for the Can Am and Mattracks for the Polaris. Even with the ~40% gear reduction, both tracks require a lot of power. There is too much rolling friction, even on level pavement. I ran tracks on a 650 before. It struggled climbing at 7000'+ elevation and/or in soft snow. The bigger quads faire much better. But both the Polaris, as well as my friend's Can Am 1000 have blown belts running tracks. He swapped in aftermarket primary and secondary clutches to help address this. It helped a lot but dropped the gas mileage by at least 30%. That's just one example where a GEARED transmission, perhaps with a supplemental oil cooler, would really shine. Honda adapted their 1000 'Africa Twin' motorcycle engine for use used in their new Talon UTV. The Talon has 6 speeds plus reverse and a Hi/Lo range. They could do the same for an ATV.
@@gregparrott We used to run tracks that weighed 2x as much on a 680 Rincon with no power steering. However we aren't climbing any elevation tho so I can't speak on that. I just wish Honda would sell it like that from the get go is all. What is outdated on it? Seems like you just don’t like it if I’m being honest. Which is fine.
Hondude -Team Mudhogs. Well, I've owned multiple quads, kfx, sportsman, brute force, rode others. You shift and go. No multiple buttons! D for drive, R for reverse and so on, EASY. A quick button for awd or a locker. The Rincon doesn't even have power steering. Again, outdated.
wrsawy the “D” (drive) is high gear and “L” for low. You just move the lever to the desired gearing just like every other brand. Sorry if I didn’t make that clear. It’s exactly like all other machines including sportsman, and brute force. It’s good to have a high and low gear. This also is a super easy locker on it? I agree, the rincon needs power steering. It’s dumb that it doesn’t have it. This is a Rubicon tho, it has power steering.
I still can't understand why Honda quit making the " Honda-matic " ! It was the best transmission ever . This new " DCT " sucks !!! It shifts when you don't want it to & vise verse in the Auto mode. The reverse wont always go into gear. The transmission shifts into 5th gear when in manual mode. The button for reverse needs to be revamped !! Make it easier.
ATV,? Bike? Really. ! You mean " Four wheeler " Maybe I was raised different but I've always heard them call a four wheeler not a bike or an ATV or a quad

The Rincon doesn't
even have power steering. Again, outdated.
I just think Honda needs to step up their game.
wrsawy the “D” (drive) is high gear and “L” for low.
@@wrsawy NO POWER STEERING!!! HONDA SEEM TO BE GOING AROUND WITH THEIR HEAD'S UP THEIR ARSES !!
They did revamp the reverse button at least. Finally.
those tires are way too big for that bike. Doesn't look right or good. disproportional to the bike
ATV,? Bike? Really. !
You mean
" Four wheeler "
Maybe I was raised different but I've always heard them call a four wheeler not a bike or an ATV or a quad
manual always works better than a auto lol
Mechanically speaking yes. Auto is a lot more functional and convenient for multiple purposes tho. To each their own! Thanks for dropping a comment.
Hondude i like a auto when it shifts good
ES is all nice until you go water ride Nd it fucks up🤣
Mine has been good so far. Lol key word “so far” !!! You can check out the kind of riding I do in my videos.
