    It would be nice to show how you installed the garage weather stripping.

      The title isnt how to apply weather stripping. It is how to cat proof it.

      The garage seal-it would be helpful to see how the garage seal part was installed, not the weather stripping. I agree.

    This is a great idea. I haven't changed my stripping to the garage door seal yet, but in the meantime I have gotten to where when I hear my cat start digging at the seal outside the door I have been meeting her with a spray water bottle every time.

    Thanks for the video. Found the garage strip at HD for less than $5. Used about 5 no. #8 x 3/4” self-drilling screws to secure to the doorframe. Feels good to outsmart our felines for a change! Thanks again for posting this video, it works! 😼

    Thanks for posting your good idea! I've tried talking to my monster cats to stop this annoying habit - they're convinced that ripping into the new weather stripping is a new fun way to get me running to open the doors for them. But I guess I'm just reinforcing their behaviour by my response! I created a temp barrier with duct tape, but this seems to be a better solution. Going to hardware store now......

    This video has been so helpful!!! We have an indoor/outdoor cat who we absolutely LOVE but she is tearing up our front door and we are wasting energy. I know it's her nature and we don't disapline her because it's natural but this niffy idea really came in handy. Thank you for this video so much. Please make more if your have more great ideas.

    Great idea! I'll have to try it. The cats shred our weatherstripping and then the flies come in. Which might be their plan, seeing as they love to chase those wiley little sky raisins.

    Nothing short of armor plate will stop our cats from penetrating the weather strip. I'm using some metal flashing. Probably ugly compared to the garage door weather strip but effective.

      I actually used it on the entire door from top to bottom. I didn’t think about cutting it shorter just where the car would scratch but that should work. Thank for the tip! Both of the strips are still up.

    Could you use this on a French door? If not, what would be something good to use?

    • @RobertGrote
      @RobertGrote  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say yes. You should be able to put the weather stripping only on one for the doors so that when it closes it will cover the gap between the doors. I think it would work. Thank you for watching.

  • @stephanierollins3057
    @stephanierollins3057 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would it work if the cat is trying to scratch to get outside? I see that the seal is covering from the outside instead of the inside

    • @RobertGrote
      @RobertGrote  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching. I guess you could try to use the seal on the inside but it might look weird with the frame of the door. The main thing with the weatherstripping is it is keeping the cat from scratching it and usually that rubber is on the outside of the door so when you shut the door it creates a seal.

    So, what do you do if the cat claws the weather stripping? My cat shreds things like that every day and it's driving me crazy

    • @RobertGrote
      @RobertGrote  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not a cat whisperer :) but you can try putting something as an alternative by your door like a foam mat and see if that will provide the same stimulation as the weather stripping because they can sink their claws into it. You could even try standing the mat up so when your cat stretches up it still only has the mat to scratch and not your weather stripping. You will still have tiny rubber pieces everywhere but you can just blow or sweep those off. Just an idea, thank you for watching.
