So WoWs recently revealed in a devblog a new Tier X German cruiser named the Hildebrand. It's an O-class battlecruiser (Agir, Alvitr, and Brunhilde) but it's a cruiser-aircraft carrier hybrid, based on the Atlantik Flugzeugkreuzer project of 1942. So, whenever she does come to WoWs in the future, I'd love to aee her as part of PR8 next year.
I could see her being like a UR CVL, with only 2 aircaft gear, with either an AA or CL gun slot, potentially buffing the range of a CL gun to be more useful, and if mounting AA, possibly get a fleet buff for AA.
I still think that for Ironblood UR or rather IB in general the best way to go would probably be to further explore non-ww2 eras, so more SMS and maybe even a few early FGS ships, but apart from that there are also a ew interesting Paper Ships left. König-Class BBs come to mind, so do Hamburg-Class DD(G)s, and H-44 BB Götz von Berlichingen (or one of the other proposed names) as a UR. The H-44 imo should basically be a beatstick with no subtlety and basically no utility but extreme durability and even better damage.
There were naval versions of the twin-engine Messerschmitt BF-110 tested but never proceeded with. Likely the BF-110 would not have been chosen as Messerschmitt BF-110 are unsuitable for carrier operations. The problem was that twin-engined carrier aircraft were not really practical at the start as the Soviet Polikarpov VIT-2, French Loire-Nieuport LN.401, Brequet Br.830 and German Messerschmitt Bf-110 were underpowered while the early F7F Tigercats had poor directional stability and De-Havilland Sea Mosquito was too heavy the carrier available as the US Navy with their early Grumman F7F Tigercat and the Royal Navy with De-Havilland Sea Mosquito demonstrated. A twin-engine carrier would only become viable when the American Grumman F7F-4N Tigercat and British De-Havilland Sea Hornet came online, ironically the British when offered the Tigercat rejected it because the Sea Hornet was a better plane and the F7F's single-engine handling in landing configuration was seen as unacceptable for carrier ops, it’s cockpit features were regarded as poor due to a lack of rear view and due to its poor elevator response at approach speeds.
0:13 ACTUALLY ☝🏻🤓 the Messerschmitt Me-155A can be good in support situations where you want AA cover and low surface dmg that way you ensure the safety of the fleet and the carrier has low chance of stealing the mvp out of the ships your grinding. Also it's one of the fastest reload figthers, servisable on carrier with supporting skills. ☝🏻🤓 Nice video, with Europa not being in WoW that means we could get her in the construction pool instead of waiting her to appear on the yearly PR/DR wave
The German aircraft carrier issues can be put down to Germany’s inexperience with building aircraft carriers partially due to the Kaiserliche Marine not being able to build the 1915 I-Class conversion of the incomplete Italian Oceanliner Ausonia and failing to get a good gauge at the leader of naval aviation at the time in the Royal Navy who had the most aircraft carriers with 5 Fleet Carriers and 2 Light Carriers, and chose to go for the next best but still not quite there yet, the IJN with Akagi. Her catapult system was a bad idea because she could only launch half of her 42 aircraft air-wing. The oxygen system has a limited supply which takes too long to recharge, preventing her from forming a useful air strike. It was too slow, and any hit to the forward half of the ship would damage her catapult and start a fire by igniting the fuel oil. Thanks to her slow launching system, her launched aircraft have to wait for the rest to get up which reduces their fuel and range. Her being a carrier compromises her ability to act as a cruiser, and her being a cruiser ability compromises her ability to act as a carrier. Her hangar design is fatal, as the enclosed unarmored hangar in a confined water environment like that of the North Sea is only going to have a similar result to what happened to the IJN at Midway. Her 16 150mm SK C/28 casemate gun is completely useless in any weather that grounds her aircraft or rough seas like the North Sea or Atlantic, they can’t fire because they are too low in the hull and only half can be realistically used with a poor arc of fire that RN Cruisers like an Arethusa or Leander or Tribal Class Destroyer can outgun her. The reason for the casemate guns was that the Germans could never build enough cruisers and destroyers. Given Goering’s controlling obsession would have not helped with her getting an air wing. Her fighter the Messerschmitt Bf-109T-1 is a terrible carrier fighter, the worst choice the Germans could have made, as the landing gear was too weak for a carrier aircraft. The Junkers Ju-87 Stuka dive-bomber, while a good idea in 1938 would have been outdated by the time Graf Zeppelin would have completed and be in service as the Battle of Britain showed how vulnerable to enemy fighters, the Junkers Ju-87 Stuka dive-bomber was. The Fieseler Fi 167A-0 torpedo-bomber was adequate for the late 1930s but by the early 1940s, it was not adequate anymore as it was so slow that even a Fairey Swordfish could kill it. The problem for Graf Zeppelin is if she completes, she will never be allowed to survive as the Royal Navy will respond, if she completes by mid-1940, then the RN will argue and win the argument against the pause in carrier construction. Suppose the Germans have a viable carrier coming in. In that case, the 4 Illustrious Class will not be paused and would all be likely in service by the end of 1940 as scheduled, HMS Unicorn and the Implacable Class will not be paused. Their construction would be continued, and it might mean HMS Glorious might not be lost because they know a Nazi carrier is around so would be more careful with Glorious and the Fleet Air Arm pushes harder for Sea Hurricanes and Seafires a lot sooner. The Royal Air Force will respond with bombing raids on where she is being built, and the RAF is certain to use their earthquake bombs on her like they did to Tirpitz if she makes it to 1944. Realistically, if Graf Zeppelin deployed, she would be on the bottom within a week hunted down and ruthlessly slaughtered by the Royal Navy. This is Drachinfel's assessment of Graf Zeppelin. "The Graf Zeppelin was a horrible hybrid design, an aircraft carrier is not a cruiser and is not supposed to get into surface gunfights, now a revised design with a single dual-purpose battery and therefore more hangar space might have been relatively effective but the 1st 2 ships are bad, with their limited air groups and intended goal, they'd be better off just filling them with fighters and using them to scout for the fleet and defend it against the inevitable incoming air attack than try and use them in any kind of offensive role." In general assessment, the World of Warship’s August von Parseval was what the Graf Zeppelin class should’ve been.
Yamato was heavily teased in the current Mini-event with multiple mentions and the golden Butterflies. But it wouldn't be the first time they tease one ship and then do another. We got Guam while Alaska was the one mentioned beforehand, for example.

There’s also a non-zero chance anni starts on the 12th and they get revealed part way through my typical release schedule. (The second anniversary started on the 11th and last year’s equivalent to the current event (anthem of remembrance) lead straight into Anni with no break).
